4 I have glorified thee on the earth; I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. 5 And now glorify thou me, O Father, with thyself, with the glory which I had, before the world was, with thee.

planten, Jesus is the only prophet to ask God to glorify him. The purpose of the creature is to glorify God. Is it the purpose of God to glorify creatures? Has this ever happened before or since?

What does Jesus mean when he teaches about his own glory that pre-existed creation? He is not asking the Father for the Father’s glory but for glory that Jesus had before creation. Can you explain who Jesus is teaching us about when He said these things? How can Jesus claim to have had glory before the world was? Why doesn’t he have it when he said this?
**Benadam, please see the verses of John chapter 16 below about who is glorifying who and a few other things:

5"Now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ 6Because I have said these things, you are filled with grief. 7But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.** 8When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt[a] in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: 9in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; 10in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.
12"I have much more to say to you, more than you cannot bear it now. 13But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak of himself but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak,.and he will tell you about the things to come. 14He will glorify me because he will get it from mine and shall show it to you. 15All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.

I need not comment. I have highlighted the parts of verses in different color for you to see that Jesus had many things to say. But he could not do that because people could not bear it at that time. Would you say that he completed his mission and nothing more was required to be said and done?

Also, there was some one to come after Jesus. Jesus referred to him as “He.”
“He will guide people into all truth.”
“He will glorify me…”
So the one who was to come after Jesus would glorify Jesus. He would get something similar to Jesus and would show it to the people.

“He will guide the people into all truth, i.e. complete truth.” Who is that person, please think over.

He will not speak of his own but will hear something and will tell it to the people.
He shall show the people the things that are to come in future.
He will be a counsellor.
Taht means he will consult people on important matters. i.e. Mushawarat. He will take opinion of the people on important matters.

Planten, in the passage posted previously Jesus is praying to His Father asking Him to ‘return’ glory that was already his.

In your reference Jesus is speaking to his apostles about a Spirit that they will experience communion with so that when it happens they will know what is happening. The glory in this passage isn’t something returned but put in the hearts of believers by the Holy Spirit.
**

the gospel written by St.Luke 10:17-20…Jesus was watching Satan falling from heaven…has any mere man ever seen spirits, which leaves the question where do spirit’s obtain the ability to take shape/form?..Also Jesus tells those He sent out that He gave them this power…If Jesus was not God He could not have gave, but handed on.

I understand you believe this is Muhammed. If I saw Jesus as a prophet and no more I guess this passage could suggest another prophet. Except for the glory part. earthly life is fulfilled when if glorifies it’s maker being the source of the creatures reason for being. In relation to the Father and the Son this can be applied to the Spirit in that what the Spirit has He got from the Father and the Son.
It is the Holy Spirit that was sent to the hearts of the believers when Jesus went unto his Father.

As for giving glory to the son, the Father glorfies the son and the son glorifies the Father.

As for the Son being glorified before the creation of the earth and all that is in it, it is written that the Son is the firstborn of all creatures. He is the firstborn of all creation and by him and through him through the ministry of the Holy Spirit all of creation came to be.

The Father was before the Son, the Son was not before the Father. The Father is without beginning or without end. The Son is the beginning and the end.

As for mohammad, he was not a messenger of the true God. For if he was, he would have recognized Jesus as the Son of God, the messiah, savior of the world, both Jew, and Arab, alike.

i found this question on another site, i just though it was a good one.

Jesus is the PERFECT reflection of God. So, if God looked in a mirror who would he see?
Remember it doesn’t say he is A reflection, but THE PERFECT reflection…that raises some issues for me.
Because if he is perfectly a reflection of his Father…the word PERFECT here meaning nothing other than Perfect…would that lend any credence to the idea that he is more than a mere arch angel?
No arch angel would PERFECTLY reflect God.
But the Son, Jesus the Christ does.

Peace greetings ALL,

I do not espouse to the doctrine “Jesus IS God!” Nowhere in Scripture am I asked to confess or profess “Jesus IS God!” I believe that Yahshua (“Jesus”) is the son of the living Yahweh (“God”). I believe this is what the so called “New Testament” teaches and ask me to confess. I also do not believe that Yahshua pre-existed his birth and was a co-creator with Father Yahweh in the beginning. I believe that Yahshua came (was born and began) in the flesh.

To Believe “Jesus IS God!” Is To Be Deceived!

Did Yahshua Create?
Jesus is God the Son in an undivided Trinity. So our Lord is not a fraction. Jesus is the Son of the living God.

Is it the divine nature or the human nature that is considered the son of God ? If the human nature is also called the son of God , then what does it mean in terms of this nature?

The New Testament draws a distinction: In his divine nature, Jesus is called the Son of the living God or questioned to be by others. With regard to his human nature, Jesus refers to himself as the Son of Man.

All true followers of Christ are sons and daughters of God (Col 3, 1-17).

Now it comes to the difficult part,in Jesus there is no distiction between His human nature and His divine nature…

**Yes, Good Fella, we have learnt from the Catholics and their bible that Jesus is many things at the same time, as follows:
  1. He is a man.
2 He is the son of a man.
  2. he is God.
  3. he is the son of God.
  4. He is a god.
  5. He is a prophet of God.
  6. He is a part of god. (1/3 or 1/1 full part).
  7. He was a God yet he needed to pray to The God.
  8. He was a God and he had to die too on the cross for the sins of the sinners.
  9. He had a human father (Joseph the Carpentar)
  10. People knew Jesus as the son of Joseph the carpentar.
  11. First thirty (30) years of the life of Jesus is hidden from view.
  12. Only three (3) years have known activity.
  13. Jesus had many things to say unto his people but they could not bear it then.
  14. So Jesus went away suddenly, quietly, telling his followers.that some one will come to help them.
I hope the information given above is correct according to the beliefs of the Catholics.**

**Yes, Good Fella, we have learnt from the Catholics and their bible that Jesus is many things at the same time, as follows:
  1. He is a man. True in the sense that He had a human nature.**
2 He is the son of a man. Not exactly. Joseph was only His foster father so to speak.
  2. he is God. Absolutely.
  3. he is the son of God. Yes, but this does not mean that God the Father had an affair. Jesus was begotten, not made.
  4. He is a god. Correction: The God. Not a God. There isn’t any other.
  5. He is a prophet of God. Meaning that He is a religious leader whose messages come from God, yes.
  6. He is a part of god. (1/3 or 1/1 full part). No. He and the Father are equal, while at the same time different persons. It’s complicated.
  7. He was a God yet he needed to pray to The God. He didn’t need to per se, He was mostly doing it for our benefit. But it only makes sense that He would speak to the Father all things considered. By becoming human He was subject to the Father. (At least I think that’s right. Feel free to correct me on that one.)
  8. He was a God and he had to die too on the cross for the sins of the sinners. He didn’t have to die. He did it out of His love for us.
  9. He had a human father (Joseph the Carpentar) A human foster father.
  10. People knew Jesus as the son of Joseph the carpentar. That is what they thought, yes.
  11. First thirty (30) years of the life of Jesus is hidden from view. Not entirely. We know of His birth and when He was twelve. The other instances of His life were not significant to our redemption and thus not included in the Bible.
  12. Only three (3) years have known activity. See above.
  13. Jesus had many things to say unto his people but they could not bear it then. They could not understand fully until the Pentecost. Even now there are things that our human minds cannot comprehend until we reach heaven.
  14. So Jesus went away suddenly, quietly, telling his followers.that some one will come to help them. That someone being the Holy Spirit.
I hope the information given above is correct according to the beliefs of the Catholics.

  1. He is a part of god. (1/3 or 1/1 full part).
Assumption by the CC. No place does it say in the bible that Jesus is 1/3 God.
  1. He was a God yet he needed to pray to The God.
He prayed to God his Father, the Holy Spirit.
  1. He was a God and he had to die too on the cross for the sins of the sinners.
Can God die? God is forever without beginning and without end. God the Father had to remove his Holy Spirit from Jesus before Jesus became our sin. That is why Jesus said, “Father, why hast thou forsaken me?”
  1. So Jesus went away suddenly, quietly, telling his followers.that some one will come to help them
Jesus was referring to the Holy Spirit who is the comforter of all who are saved/born again.

A psalm that ends in victory. Any Jew within earshot would understand that what looks like defeat now will end in victory

Psalm 22

1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from saving me,
so far from the words of my groaning?

I am thankful to MarysGirls for the honest and gentle reply to all my points (point by point). I have learnt about the beliefs of the Catholics and got some good replies. I may have to refer back to a few of the replies given by MarysGirls, later on. But until then, Thanks vey much.

Hello, Planten. I’m afraid not all of it is correct or accurate.
  1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.
    John 1, 1
And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.
John 1, 14

“But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority to forgive sins” - - he said to the paralytic, “I say to you, rise, pick up your mat, and go home.”
Mark 2, 10

  1. Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
    Matthew 16, 16
  • Thomas answered and said to him, “My Lord and my God!”*
    John 20, 28
6.* He asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is? "They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”*
Matthew 16, 13-14

Jesus never called himself a prophet, although he condemned the Jewish elders for having rejected him like their forefathers did the prophets who came before him (Mt 21:42-46; Jn 4:44). Nor did the apostles ever mistakenly assert publicly that Jesus was a prophet during his ministry on earth. The knowledge of our Lord’s divinity was granted to Simon Peter by the grace of God before Jesus had ascended into heaven and sent the Paraclete. Our Lord’s confirmation helped the other apostles gain the same knowledge which Peter had acquired. But I’m uncertain whether the apostles fully comprehended what Peter had before Pentecost. His experience was a singular privilege, for he was destined to become Christ’s vicar on earth - the one appointed to confirm the brethren in their faith. Meanwhile Peter and the apostles weren’t really sure who Jesus was until this moment. They may have been privately speculating among themselves what many people were doing openly.

Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.” Then he strictly ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.
Matthew 16, 17, 20

  1. The Father and I are one.” The Jews again picked up rocks to stone him.
    John 10, 30
“Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me.”
John 14, 11

“And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord (God the Son) should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord (God the Father) would be fulfilled.”
Luke 1, 43-45

Water is not a fraction of H2o with ice and steam comprising the remaining two thirds of the element.
  1. Now glorify me, Father, with you, with the glory that I had with you before the world began.”
    John 17, 5
He advanced a little and fell prostrate in prayer, saying, “My Father, if it is not possible, let this cup pass from me; yet not as I will, but as you will.”
Matthew 26, 39

Prayer can be described as the human mind seeking to commune with the mind of God, the human will seeking to conform to the will of God. When Jesus prayed to the Father, he was not one separate conscious entity communing with another as it is the case with us. The Son of Man was seeking to commune with his divine mind and to conform his human will to his divine will. I think of Jesus as having prayed to himself: a meeting of a human mind with a divine mind, a human will with a divine will. The Son and the Father in each other as one conscious entity but distinct as persons.
  1. Who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped. Rather, he emptied himself like a slave, coming in human likeness; and found in human appearance, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross.
    Philippians 2, 6-8
Jesus is fully God and fully man. As a man he died, and as God he had the power to rise from the dead (Jn 2:19). Jesus regarded his human nature unequal to his divine nature. (Lk 18:19).
  1. *But Mary said to the angel, **“How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?” *And the angel said to her in reply, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.”
    Luke 1, 34-35

Don’t thank me, thank Jesus Christ. Without Him, I would not sound so “honest and gentle”.
But thank you for the compliment. 🙂

**Your “Thank Jesus Christ” reminded me of an incident (witnessed by myself.)

There was a Cricket match going on at Portsmouth (England). There were many spectators. There was a drunk sailor in uniform who was swearing too much, some abusive language as he commented and shouted to the players.

“Come on. You *astard. Hit it hard.” “Run you silly man. Run faster.” “catch it you idiot, son of *astard…” I was standing nearby. There was a respectable old lady, well dressed standing near us. She felt very upset about the bad behaviour of that sailor ( a petty officer). She made faces of disapproval a few times without saying anything.

The sailor noticed that the lady did not like his bad behaviour. So the sailor said " Sorry ma’am." The lady said “Thank you.”

The sailor shouted at the lady “Don’t thank me. Thank Jesus Christ.” and he started the same old abusive comments.**
