I asked my priest today and he kind of glossed over it and told me to read John, which I already did. Then he told me he could not do anything for me because I didnt believe the basic of the faith and refused me confession. I am really confused now. I am sad and hurt about my treatment by the priest. I feel he does not have the power to judge me like he did.

If you are not a believer…I am wondering why you are asking for a Sacrament? You were not mistreated by a priest…he did exactly what should have been done and stopped your charade in it’s tracks. He did not judge you at all he simply took what you told him and made a decision that could… should…motivate you to find out whether you are or are not a Christian. There is a plethera of Bible citations that indicate without a shred of a doubt that Jesus believed He was the Son of God and so God Himself. You say you read the Bible and cannot find this??? Dude please go to RCIA and get involved if you want the real truth…good luck and God help you…sincerely.:confused:

An Old Bible found in Palestine confirms the Quran

youtube.com/watch?v=wDrObm8aotM&feature=related

few points :

The letters of Jesus’ brother’ were so dangerous that for hundreds of years the Church fathers refused to put them in the bible.

-Christian leaders said why should we include the letters? – the letters don’t have the gospel that people came to be associated with Christianity.
  • In complete contrast to todays christianity the letters describe jesus as master but not divine they see Jesus as a human character blessed by God.
-The Book of James are the teachings of Jesus but not about Jesus – James passes on what he got from his brother .

Doesn’t mention
Cross of Christ
Blood of jesus
Forgiving sins through believing in our lord the savior who is heaven

This alternative version of Jesus messge is found in another ancient book not included in the bible. One of most contested early documents possibly older than the Gospels themselves.

It is the key to understanding Jesus original message

In library of greek patriarch in old city of Jerusalem has complete copy of this handbook that was compliled when Jesus famly was still alived.

It mentioned Jesus as servant of God

Which Bible were you reading?

John 1 1-14:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.
He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Read the first chapter of the Gospel of St. John.

jastor, as others said, it is the gift of Faith which allows one to assent to the Truth of Christ’s Self-Revelation. A book I think you would find very helpful to grow in your understanding of this and other articles of Catholic Faith is Frank Sheed’s Theology for Beginners. It’s not a difficult book, but it gives thorough presentations on the basics of the Faith, including the Most Holy Trinity and the Divinity of Christ.

Take a look at St.Luke 9;28-35,…no the priest did insult you jastor for if you don’t beleive that Christ is God ,then you canot recieive the sacrement of reconcillation…because through this sacrement you are reconcillied by that which you do not beleive.So it would be an impossible thing to do.

The priest is doing you a kindness. You need to take time to study your faith so that you really understand what you believed. I don’t think that he was trying to be cruel.

I am having a hard time understanding how you didn’t know this? You said that you grew up Catholic, but did you attend Mass or recited the Nicene Creed? Did you attend Catechism classes?

Since you didn’t know that Jesus was God until now, who did you think he was then? How did you interpret the sign of the cross, what did you think the ‘Son of God’ title meant?

Why do you think that the Priest refused you confession?

I know that all I have done was ask questions instead of answering yours. Once I understand what you already know and believe and have an idea about your growing up in the faith, I shall help 🙂

I took that as Thomas talking about , Jesus and God, not them as one?:confused:
I’m curious Jastor. How is it possible you didn’t know this is what the Catholic Church taught? You obvioiulsy have said the Apostle’s Creed right?
I believe in one God,
the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
and of all things visible and invisible;
And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only begotten Son of God,
begotten of his Father before all worlds,
God of God, Light of Light,
very God of very God,
begotten, not made,
being of one substance with the Father
;
by whom all things were made;
It is very explicit in the teaching. However, how do you have faith? You believe. God ultimately gives you faith and you have the opportunity to respond.

Here it is in a nutshell.
Matthew 22:41
41While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, 42"What do you think about the Christ[d]? Whose son is he?"
“The son of David,” they replied
.
43He said to them, “**How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him ‘Lord’? **For he says,
44” 'The Lord said to my Lord:
“Sit at my right hand
until I put your enemies
under your feet.” '[e] 45If then David calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?" 46No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions.
Obviously refering to his divinity:
The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ,[e] the Son of God.”
64"Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
65Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. 66What do you think?”
“He is worthy of death,” they answered.
The high preist tore his clothes? Why? Blasphemy. Because Jesus said he was the Son of God (in otherwords divine; note that Roman emperors cliamed they were gods because of their liniage from a god) And Jesus said that he would be coming down from heaven in God’s glory.

This is Jesus Testimony of himself. That he is God. He has come to save you from your sins and rebellion against God. How? By dieing for you on a cross and taking on your punishment: Is 53 says
4 Surely he took up our infirmities
and carried our sorrows,
yet we considered him stricken by God,
smitten by him, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to his own way;
and the LORD has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed and afflicted,
yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before her shearers is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
By his sacrifice, suffering he places you into his relationship with God whereby you are made righteous because of what he did on your behalf. He also raised from the dead on the third day; a future promise for all believers that on the last day we too will raise from the dead (physically). If you believe that this is the case then repent (turn your life totally around from sin and live for Christ) partake in the Sacraments of he Church and get to know God better by participating in the Church, praying (talking with God), reading and knowing Holy Scriptures. And share your faith with others.

Not much of an evangelist was he? I’m not sure why he did as he did but its problematic. As Christians we have the truth! What a shame we don’t really share our faith with those that need it. Especially the clergy! I left the Catholic Church many years ago just for reasons like this but by God’s grace I’ve returned. The fact you’re asking these questions is a good sign. God’s reaching out to you. He wants you to seek him and to find him. The Catachism book is good about teaching catholic doctrine and it starts with God. What do you believe about God?

No, I think you need to come up with a better example.
Read John1. It specifically speaks about the Word of God which was in the beginning and was with God and was God. It then goes on to eventually say that the Word became flesh. There are several places where Jesus says He is God. The verse which was given regarding Jesus saying ‘before Abraham was I AM’ is a reference back to God in the book of Exodus. Moses met God in the burning bush. When Moses asks who he should say sent him God said ‘I AM who I AM’. There is continuous use of this phrase “I AM” throughout the Gospel of John. For example in John17 where the soldiers come to arrest Jesus and they say they are looking for Jesus. Jesus says, “I AM” (often translated as “I am he” but it literally translates as I AM.) and they fall back to the ground.

James was the cousin of Jesus, not His brother. James and John were the sons of Zebedee. Their mother was Silome’, the sister of Mary, the mother of Jesus.

The reason the “letters of James” were dangerous is because they weren’t written by James and they weren’t written until the mid-2nd century. Most likely by Gnostic “Christians” that inhabited the deserts of sounthern Palestine.

Mohammed never learned his Christology from Christ or any true Apostle, but from a heretical sect, so any claim that you may have to the knowledge of Christ stemming from the Quran to me is suspect.

Jesus said of Himself that “Before Abraham was , I AM.”

So either Jesus was wicked, a liar, He was insane, or He was the Son of God.

If He was any of the first three, then I ask you how can you trust Him to be a prophet if He is any of such?

The only other logical conclusion would be that what He said about Himself was true; He is teh Son of God.

And please refrain from posting videos from such laughable sources as “YouTube” and put them forth as historical fact. The site does nothing to verify that such things are authentic.

In addition to John, Chapter 1, the evidence of the teaching as a dogma of the faith is clear from the Nicene Creed stated at every single mass:

…We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father. Through him all things were made…

I think it is pretty clear that this is a fundamental tenet of the faith, since we profess it at every mass as part of our profession of faith.

Peace,
-Robert

In Exodus we see God refer to His name: “I AM WHO I AM”, (“I AM HE WHO IS”, or “I AM”-Ex 3:14). God is reality, God is Being, that is His nature and essence.

What does Jesus say about Himself:
“The Father and I are One.”
“The Father is greater than I.”
“Before Abraham was, I AM.”

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

John 18:[5] They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I AM.” Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them.
[6] When he said to them, “I AM,” they drew back and fell to the ground. (NAB).

What does Paul say about Jesus?:
Col 1:[15] He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation;
[16] for in him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or authorities – all things were created through him and for him.
[17] **He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. **

Logically speaking you must remove from your mind the idea of progression, i.e. how we are born into the world from our parents. Progression does not happen in eternity where all times and places are present.

With the Trinity it has to do not with progression but with Relationships. God the Father is Father in relation to His eternally begotten Son-His eternal Word(Jesus).

Jesus is eternally the Son in relation to the eternal Father.

The Father eternally generates the Son and the Son is eternally begotten. The Father pours forth His very essence in an act of total life-giving love-which is Being itself-to the Son. And the Son returns to the Father all that He receives from the Father. This exchange of life-giving love is identified by Jesus as the third Person of the Trinity-The Holy Spirit.

Hence we say that the Holy Spirit “procedes from the Father and the Son.”

(I know that this is still a point of contention between the Catholic Church and the Eastern Church. I beg the patience of my brothers and sisters from the East, I was merely explaining the Catholic teaching to another “Catholic”. I do not wish to take the thread off subject.)

If you still don’t think Jesus was God, even though the data says that He testified that He was. I ask you, who was He?

Two possibilities: either He was a bad man (a liar or a lunitic), or He was a good man.

If He was a liar, that would mean that He was not a good person.
Yet why would a good person do the things He did, such as cure people. And usually someone who is a liar lies for selfish gain. He wound up getting crucified for His lie. Doesn’t really make sense, does it?

If He was a lunitic, He sure didn’t have the traits of lunacy. In fact He mentions several times of His upcoming death. He displays clearheadedness in His confrontations with the Jewish authorities and the Roman authorities as well.

Peter Kreeft:
Jesus has in abundance precisely those three qualities that liars and lunatics most conspicuously lack: (1) his practical wisdom, his ability to read human hearts, to understand people and the real, unspoken question behind their words, his ability to heal people’s spirits as well as their bodies; (2) his deep and winning love, his passionate compassion, his ability to attract people and make them feel at home and forgiven, his authority, “not as the scribes”; and above all (3) his ability to astonish, his unpredictability, his creativity. Liars and lunatics are all so dull and predictable! No one who knows both the Gospels and human beings can seriously entertain the possibility that Jesus was a liar or a lunatic, a bad man.
Well if you eliminate the assumption that He was a bad man and in fact a very good man, a prophet, a sage, etc. Then you must then logically take as true what He said about Himself: He is Lord.

I have given you reasons to believe. The rest must come from the Lord, and it is you who must ask Him. The sure knowledge that Jesus is Lord is a gift of supernatural grace and can only be received if you are willing to receive it. I must leave the rest between you and Him. I will pray for you. God Bless!

Wow that’s really interesting. I grew up Catholic too. I remember being about 5 years old and at mass, looking up at Jesus on the altar, and knowing he was God. I was vaguely taught about my faith. Didn’t go to Catholic school. But I knew it.

What makes me believe? Well, it’s like C.S. Lewis said it: “Jesus is either a liar, a lunatic, or Lord”. If he were a liar, I don’t think he’d put his life on the line just for a lie. If he were a lunatic, he’d have no followers- at least not millions! So what does that leave us with? Jesus is Lord! 🙂

Aww, come on you guys, the OP has a sincere question. Don’t be mean by telling him/her that he/she must be joking 😦
