Jesus' Parables

Christians often associate parables exclusively with Jesus and believe that he invented a new method of teaching.
I got this from your blog. Is this where you got the idea that it is thought to be a new method of teaching? Until you posted it I never heard of it. I would say he is mistaken to say that all Christians believe this. There may be some misinformed that do but they would be a very small minority.

Jesus was the fulfillment of scripture. It is not surprising that He would use it since He is the author of it.

quote of mine?

I told you earlier what I was taught - I found his article interesting being that he wrote something that matched my thoughts growing up in Protestant churches.

I would see how it would catch your eye then but I have never heard it before and I don’t think you could find it anywhere taught in Catholicism.

A simple reading of the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 13, v13-15 tells us that Christ spoke in the form of parables to fulfill a prophetic passage of the old testament, specifically from Isaiah…
I have biblegateway open - Where in Isaiah please? I saw this before somewhere but can’t remember.
either Zahava didn’t try to question this ‘understanding’ of hers by further discussion with whomever she ‘received it from’ right from the start so that if the mistake were ‘imposed’ on her by another she could have quickly found the correct and authentic acknowledgement that “parables” as a style are not ‘new Christian teaching’, and that if the mistake were hers, she would not have gone so ‘long’ with misapprehensions.
I asked many question growing up and especially as an adult in the Presbyterian church I was a member - they always dismissed my questions.

Because I was led to believe as a child that these were original - Jesus’ teachings - I have since found out differently after I converted to Judaism.
what christian child would not make the same assumption as you did? even now very few christians are aware of the fact that jesus copied most of teachings from the old testament.

Copied? He is the author because He is God.

He may be referring to
Isaiah 6: 9-10
Thanks - yes, that is it. I like Rashi’s commentary

  1. And I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” And I said, “Here I am; send me.”
**Whom shall I send **to admonish Israel? I sent Amos, and they called him, ‘Pesilus,’ because he was tongue tied, ’Pesilus’ being the Greek word for tongue-tied.] He prophesied two years before the earthquake, and the Israelites would say, The Holy One, blessed be He, left over the whole world and caused His Shechinah to rest on this tongue-tied one, as is stated in Pesikta.
9. And He said, "Go and say to this people, ‘Indeed you hear, but you do not understand; indeed you see, but you do not know.’

Indeed you hear I say to you, Indeed you hear, but you do not strive to understand, and indeed you see miracles that I have performed for you, yet you do not strive to know Me.

I don’t make the connection that Jesus is G-d because he quoted this. The bible teaches that G-d is not a man.

Fulfill a prophetic passage?

I can quote what the President says but that doesn’t make me the President

I can quote what you say but that does not make me you.

So how was this a prophectic fulfillment?

verse 5 did say "And I said, “Woe is me for I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips, and amidst a people of unclean lips I dwell, for the King, the Lord of Hosts have my eyes seen.”.

If the prophecy was fullfilled on jesus, then jesus had unclean lips?
waiting to see how this is answered.

Jesus is not God because He quoted anything. He is God because He said He was. When you speak of the Bible you mean only the Old Testament right?

Much was hidden in the Old to be revealed in the New.

There was a thread on this very topic. I wish I could recall the title.

6 And he replied: Go and say to this people: Listen carefully, but you shall not understand! Look intently, but you shall know nothing!

You are to make the heart of this people sluggish, to dull their ears and close their eyes; Else their eyes will see, their ears hear, their heart understand, and they will turn and be healed.

6 [9-10] The truth that the nation will remain impenitent is vividly foretold, as if its obstinacy would be caused, instead of merely occasioned, by the prophet’s warning. Cf Matthew 13:13-15; Mark 4:12; Luke 8:10.

No Adrift, how to respond to what was said about unclean lips.
If Jesus fulfilled this prophecy in Isaiah.

Started with your above post – you gave me the reference.

Agnos, then posted the above, mention that if you read further down –IF
This was a fulfilled prophecy (go to very first post) on Jesus, then Jesus had unclean lips.
