Jesus was a protestant

“protestant” (lower-case ‘p’): A person who protests against something; a protester, an objector.
Matthew 23: Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 2 “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. 4 They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.
CAF members getting HYPE…😃

“Reformer”, “liberal”, are not part of the definition of a “protestant”.

Again, I quote:

“protestant” (lower-case ‘p’): A person who protests against something.

Jesus protested against the hypocritical actions of many, not just Pharisees:

Mark 11:15ff:
15 On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, 16 and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. 17 And as he taught them, he said, “Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’c]? But you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’d]
But he didn’t protest those guys, he kicked them out. There’s a difference. A protester would stand outside with a sign, chanting a few lines. This is not what Jesus did. He was a man of action, and instead, he kicked them out and got rid of all of their things.

Jesus said: “Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you,
but do not follow their example”

This is not protestantism. protestantism is like this:
“Do not do or observe whatsoever they tell you”
“Do not believe in the Eucharist”
“Do not go to confession”
etc etc. (im just generalizing).

In any case Jesus got the Authority from Heaven, He can do anything He wants. You cant beat that. Protestants didn’t get authority from anywhere…

There’s nothing about ‘signs’ or ‘chanting’ that is inherent in the verb ‘to protest’:
“To protest”: To object to (an action or event); to challenge or contest

Again, this thread is not about “Protestants”. It’s about being “protestant”.
Enough, already. You’re not getting anywhere with this. Maybe you should try it on a Buddhist forum. Didn’t Buddha protest against suffering and the material world?

I’ve corrected your statements 😃
Jesus said: “Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you,

This is not Protestantism. Protestantism is like this:
“Do not do or observe whatsoever they tell you”
“Do not believe in the Eucharist”
“Do not go to confession”
etc etc. (im just generalizing).

I agree. What Jesus did is not Protestantism. What Jesus did was protestant.

The Buddha did not protest the material world. Buddha protested against the hubris of the brahmins. So the Buddha was the first protestant – well, a very early protestant.

Don’t do what the Protestants do - with a capital ‘P’.

When quoting the New Testament especially Our Lord, Jesus, don’t take his statements out of context, or without reading the paragraph above and below the statement.

From Sermon on the Mount -
Mt 5: 17-20.
“Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfill them. … I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota…will pass from the law until all is accomplished. …”

For a connection (or lack thereof 👍), read:
MORTALIUM ANIMOS” ENCYCLICAL of POPE PIUS XI on RELIGIOUS UNITY
You may be very surprised.
It’s the best I’ve read regarding Religious Unity in a very long time.

Everyone should be a protestant.

Everyone should protest against something…like, say, sin.😃

Why should Protestants monopolize being protestant?
I protest against this thread.

Do you realize how much bandwidth and worker productivity this thread has wasted?

OK, back to work everyone!

😃 (back at ya)

All He had to do was correct error. He didn’t create it, man did, He corrected it.

While he’s sitting up Heaven saying; Geez look what they did now.😃

Can’t a Jew “protest” the acts of other Jews? Isn’t that what the Prophets did, continually, without fail?

I’m trying to show a common foundation that connects Protestantism with Catholicism (both are “protestant”), and yet no one wants to see that connection.😃
We all know there a common foundation connecting Protestanism and Catholicism; his name is Jesus, he happens to be the Son of God. 😛

No, he was not a protestant.

A very tacky thread.

What was its purpose?
To attempt to insult or annoy Catholics?

And you call yourself a Jesus-Buddhist? I don’t think so.

But he didn’t protest their actions, he warned against them and condemned their actions. There was no protesting involved, whether they said catchy lines and had signs or not. Objection doesn’t equal protesting. You’ve yet to back your information when you say it does. I’m not saying you’re wrong, I’m merely saying you’ve given nothing to back up your statement.

Yes, and he was also a protestant.👍
I am amazed at how many people fail to see the linguistic choice by the thread starter. Jesus did protest, so yes in that sense he is a protestor or protestant.

I guess making up a weird sounding religion for yourself wasn’t working anymore?

John 2:13-17 (also Matthew 21:12-13, Mark 11:15-18, Luke 19:45-46)

When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple courts he found men selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! How dare you turn my Father’s house into a market!”

Sounds like Jesus is “protesting” here, with a LITTLE “p.”
