I don’t pay much attention to comedians usually, but I was aware of Jim Gaffigan because he markets himself as a “clean” comic and makes much to-do over being a Midwestern Catholic father of five. Some people on here have even mentioned him as being a sort of evangelist. He also was featured in the movie about the Divine Mercy Image which also featured Bishop Barron.

I don’t care if he supports Trump or not, but I’m wondering how his dislike of Trump made it okay for him to unload a pile of profanities (great example for your kids there buddy) and some of the stuff he is saying about pedophiles is just plain weird. What’s up with this guy? Doesn’t seem like how a good Catholic father should be posting and talking. (I never heard my own father say anything worse than “Hell”, and that rarely, in the 26 years I knew him. He had spent a lot of years in the Navy so I’m sure he had heard every cuss word in existence.)

Someone objected to the original posted news story because it stated the F word that Gaffigan used. The original news story I posted can be found on Vulture dot com, which is a pop culture website run by New York magazine, called “Jim Gaffigan Shares What He’s Learned…” You can search for it if you want to read it. It also contains the statement re pedophiles.

Another leftist blaming his bad behavior on Trump.

I always like him because he is very funny, clean, and likable. Not so much anymore. To me he has reduced himself to all the other foul mouthed comics out there who get their laughs from saying four letter words.
 
The posts get flagged by an automatic system and have to be reviewed by mods before they are posted.
 
It’s a news story, and the word is part of the news given that the discussable issue is that this is a guy repping as a Catholic father.

However, if it bothers you, I will look for another story that contains the word bleeped.
 
Never heard of the guy until this thread.
Don’t care what he thinks now anymore than I did before.
 
I removed the original story, just to be on the safe side, and replaced it with two other stories that do not outright state The Word.
I included directions for people who want to read the original story I posted to find it themselves on the web.

I would ask that you kindly remove your original post as well. I have not flagged it.

For those who might not know who he is, some previous threads about Gaffigan on CAF. I think he also performed for the Pope in Philadelphia.

That’s what my mother would say, and how I feel as well. If he lost his cool in his own home, watching the convention on TV, then that’s between him, his wife and family, and his confessor. He didn’t need to have a tantrum on social media and then capitalize on it with follow-up articles.

If he wished to express that he doesn’t agree with Trump, doesn’t want to vote for him, doesn’t support him, or has some other issue with him, he could have expressed that in a civilized manner like I’d expect a person who runs around being publicly “Catholic” to do. Or at least acted a little bit sorry for the bad example he set.

Honestly when someone who is very publicly “Catholic” does something like this, I wonder what’s coming next…

Jim Gaffigan is a pretty well-known standup comedian. My sons and I love his comedy.

He’s been around for a while. While he’s become popular for his stand up, the thing I remember him for most is he was in Sex and the City as a boyfriend of one of the girls, and he didn’t close the door when he was in the bathroom. Not sure why I remember that, but there you go.

He had a bad moment. I’m not sure we need to make a ton of assumptions based on that. We’ve all had moments where we blow up and say things we regret later (at least the delivery if not the substance). Most of us just aren’t celebrities whose ugly moments get passed around endlessly on the internet.

Also, without turning this into yet another thread about Trump, I wouldn’t assume that anyone who dislikes Trump is “the left.”

The thing is, he has clarified it and doubled down on it now. So it isn’t one bad moment but now a pattern. I’m not Jim gaffigan’s friend. But I am friends with people that are. His behavior in the last year or so has been erratic. And if you know his story he isn’t “Catholic” but his wife is. However, I do know Lou Holtz on a personal level. This whole row was a reaction to a very Catholic Man’s statement about a not so catholic candidate and the school and Jim reacted. Disappointed in Notre Dame again. But kind of worried about Jim. He is far from his Indiana roots here.

On the contrary most comedians HATE trump and are on the far left. And at times they are hilarious. Sometime their jokes are funny too.
