Pax et Bonum! I also remember a scripture passage saying “flesh and spirit are opposed”…working against each other! angeltime:angel1:

Right, and if the flesh is opposed to the spirit then it will not want to understand spiritual things like the Eucharist.

Here is a quote from St Augustine (on John 19):

A suggestive word was made use of by the evangelist, in not saying pierced, or wounded His side, or anything else, but opened; that thereby, in a sense, the gate of life might be thrown open, from whence haveflowed forth the sacramentsof the Church, without which there is no entrance to the life which is the true life. That blood was shed for the remission of sins; that water it is that makes up thehealth-giving cup, and supplies at once thelaver of baptismand water for drinking.2(St. Augustine,*Tractates on John 120.2,ca. 406 A.D.)

Pax! Very nicely put - one can envision the gates of life being opened for us with the sacraments flowing…angeltime[BIBLEDRB][/BIBLEDRB]

Yes, though I don’t know what Augustine was referring to, as far as the term “opened”. I think it is more accurately translated as “pierced”, no?

Pax! A wound is open and in some cases gaping (a large opening) and this is what Augustine meant I believe. The wound was an opening or passageway for us in terms of salvation, eternal life and sacraments. In the Divine Mercy prayers we use the term Fount of Mercy - an opening of Mercy (blood and water gushing forth - as the prayer goes on to say) angeltime:highprayer:
