I actually wasn’t suggesting that the Transubstantiation is a myth, and a charitable re-reading of my statement will make this clear.
Regardless, the Transubstantiation has precious little to do with Mr. Stewart’s blood.
History tells us that Catholics in the past have born epithets for the sake of our belief in the Transubstantiation: ‘cannibals,’ ‘blood-drinkers,’ &c. I don’t think anyone will disagree that this sort of statement constitutes defamation in its strictest sense. This is on the level of another blood-related canard: i.e., blood libel.
