I characterize some of my opposition. Some of my opposition wants some border control. Some want none. It is the none I was referring to. All people who want this man to stay want our immigration law to be ignored. If they didn’t then they’d be content with this man being sent home because that is the law.

Start at the beginning of the board, do not pass go, do not collect $200

Separating children from their parents
They’re free to go to Mexico with him, no one’s forcing his family stay here without him. He is the one who has made a hardship on his family, not the US government.

I’m just overtired and rambling… waiting for all the Mexicans to be honest about how they feel

His decision to remain after being told to leave in 2008 is a conscious decision to break the law.

It is a straw man argument because you argue against a position that no one in this thread has taken. Can you cite a posting here that takes the position you are arguing against?

No, I never said it was the position of anyone in this thread. People in this thread aren’t the ones who reported this story.

Is this really the pro-family message Catholics should promote? So let’s say we accept that the American wife committed a terrible sin by marrying an “illegal”… now she and their American children have to suffer the consequences forever and ever without recourse? You’re telling the kids “your dad is an illegal - either you stay in your home and live without him or you abandon your home and birthright to try to scrounge a living in Mexico.”

Laws have to be enforced or they have no meaning. Laws have to be enforced consistently and with uniformity to be just.

OK, who in the OP article was arguing for no border security???

Penalties should also be proportionate to the harm done by the infraction. How much harm has been done by Jorge that would justify the penalty that exiles him and his family, or break up his family? How about in his case just levying a fine?

Leniency on illegal immigration encourages more illegal immigration.

I don’t know. Again, I never said that. And people often keep their motives hidden.
Then you are arguing against hidden motives, only surmised by you. Let it go. It was just a bad straw man argument. You would do better to go on and try to find a real argument for deporting Jorge.
