I thought it was very well done. I will be able to at least see the last part of the finish on Wed. (I am a lector at 6:30 PM Mass).
To me the sad part was it only got a 8% share while “Desperate Housewives” got something like 25% and Someother sleasy show (I can’t rember which) got a 13% rating.
It must be something about Jesus’ comment regarding the wide path vs. the narrow one!

I was also impressed with the first part of this movie. I can’t wait for tonight!! I programmed the dvr to record both installments so we can watch the whole thing over again when we have more time.
One thing that struck me ( and I wondered if anyone else got this) was when he was warning his friends of what the communist manifesto was all about, and he mentioned their desire to remove religion completely from public life. All I could think was, “That is exactly what the far left is trying to do in this country!”. ( No wonder some of those “enthusiastic” fundamentalist preachers call the Democratic party the “communist” party.)

Speechless … the second part was simply awesome. I re-lived April 2005 all over again.

“You must call by name what is good and what is evil and fight with your freedom… You must not hate. You must not kill. …Forgiveness is God’s might”
  • J.P. II to Lech Walesa
“You are not alone the living God walks beside you. He will be your best friend.”
– J.P. II to the youth.

I just loved it…

Brought me to tears. I loved how they somewhat showed the Relationship between JPII and B16. I couldn’t stop crying at the end, and there are not many movies that can make me cry like that.

So God Bless,

Ryan

I think that it was awesome! I felt as though I were reliving it all towards the end. There were times when the camera caught John Voight at just the right angle and he “became” John Paul…
I’m still in tears.

Fantastic :clapping:

Had me in tears too :o, especially at the end.

I think Jon Voight did an excellent job. 👍

:clapping: :crying:  :bowdown2: It made me smile! It made me cry! That was so awesome! I miss him so!

I particularly liked how they managed to find a way to include portions of JPII’s writings in the film.

Even four hours isn’t really enough to encapsulate JPII’s life but it was a very good effort. Enjoyed it.

I loved it! I thought the humerous scenes like when he knocked the cheese off his plate were great. I also like the fact that they had Cardinal Ratzinger portrayed. I thought Cary Elwes and Jon Voight both did an excellent job. I liked the transition from one actor to the other. I was also in tears at the end. I told my husband I miss him so much.

There were advertisements to order the DVD so I called my mom and she ordered it for me.

This was awesome , Praise JESUS! The ABC movie was good but I felt there was too much emphasis on Mary and not enough of Jesus. A non-Catholic would think that we WORSHIP Mary. The CBS movie had everything! It made me appreciate my faith, and PJPII, even more!

I really enjoyed Part I, but I was very disappointed with Part II. I thought that so much was left out. His continuing pressure on Polish and Soviet officials, the trip to Nicaragua when he shook his finger at that Jesuit priest (why didn’t he shut down the whole Order?), was confronted by the Communists down there during Mass, his and Ratzingers problems with Lefebvre, the prayer meetings at Assisi, and a longer look at how the homosexual crisis in the American priesthood deeply effected the last years of his pontificate.

I think the answer lies in the fact that the Vatican gave full approvel to this film, therefore, I highly doubt they would back a look at many of those episodes.

Pre-vat-we could take you to disneyland and u still wouldn’t be happy!!I thought the movie was excellent,Man do I miss John Paul II.

Made me miss him, eternal rest upon his soul.

You know, Roots got a whole week, they really could have stretched it out.

Prevat-don’t take that the wrong way,I was grinning when I wrote that. But why would you want to focus on things that YOU consider negative? The Homosexual thing, was John Paul PERSONALLY responsible for it…NO, so why bring it up…I don’t understand.

Disneyland? Maybe the Land of OZ? Yep, that about sums up the last 40 years.

If we are truly in the “Springtime of the Church,” then God help us when we hit the “Winter!”

I thought the second half was very emotional. It did seem to just fly through his pontificate (is that the right word?). But he did so much that I think they could have had an 8 hour mini-series still left things out. Overall, I thought it was very well done and very true to our dear pope and faith. Kudos to CBS for putting together such a well-made program that didn’t stoop to sensationalism.

I’m still surprised at how my teen kids wept with me for those last scenes…it has left a cloud of sorrow with me all day, having brought back so vividly our great loss as if it happened yesterday. I’ll probably watch the funeral tonight (I have it on tape) just to give me closure again. 😦

Our family was discussing afterward how much peace in the world meant to JPII, how he felt that was his calling - to bring about peace, and while he accomplished much - that scene of him looking out the window wondering why his body was failing him when the world needed his support most - hit home. We liked how he attributed the pain he was to endure for the pursuit of peace and even my kids said out loud: “We still have so much more to do”.

Very moving.

I hate TV writing. This should have been made for Showtime or HBO. As such I found 4 hours to be quite vapid. Nothing but scenes touching base on some things and leaving out others. This movie assumed you had to be familiar with the Pope or you wouldnt get any of it. Ben Gazarra disappears halfway in… the shooting was poorly handled. There was no exposition of him placing the bullet in the Fatima statue, no mention of Reagans shooting…I could go on but wont… with the exception of the very touching performance of John Voight, I found this empty and hollow…very dumbed down… much better than the insipid first version on ABC, but not worth owning for me or viewing again. Again, Voight was very good, but I didnt think much of this movie at all.
