Just curious - why do non-Catholics hang here?

I’ve noticed that there are many non-Catholic members here. I’m really curious why they hang out on a Catholic site? I’m not asking this in a judging or nasty way, I’m truly curious. Why would someone who is clearly not in agreement with the Catholic Faith want to spend time in a place where what they probably do believe is constantly disagreed with?

What do non-Catholics get out of being here, I guess is what I’m wondering.

Well, I started coming here in a time when I was actively exploring several branches of Christianity other than my own. I came to the realization that I was what I was because the Church of Good News was responsible for my conversion to Christ, and if the (Catholics, Lutherans, Orthodox, Baptists…) had been responsible for my conversion I would be something else.

The Catholic faith claimed to descend from St. Peter, so they seemed like a logical starting point in this little exercise. I still remember a friend from college who became Catholic and told me that “everything else being equal he would prefer a branch of Christianity that had the history”…

Since that time my personal situation has changed (diagnosed with prostrate cancer) so I think it wisest that I not be considering changing Christian denominations.

Funny though, I think the Catholic faith adds something missing in mine that I can’t quantify but…Anyway, this little exercise I think has been a good thing…

Besides, EWTN is vastly superior to any of the non Catholic Christian TV stations I’ve seen. I’ll take EWTN over TBN any day of the week.🙂
Do you think you are going to “save” us?
Nah…I feel more confident I will be seeing you in eternity than some of you feel about yourselves.
Do you want to really learn about Catholicism from Catholics instead of your church who will give you wrong information about the Catholic Church anyway?
Probably. Although in fairness to my own church, we don’t discuss other denominations. Everything I have heard in my present church about Catholics has been positive.
Do you want to taunt us?
**Nah…I do tend to get argumentative and lawyerly. I am trying to break the very bad habit of arguing Christianity over the internet:) **
Are you just curious?
That too
Do you just want to lurk?
I go into lurk mode sometimes when arguing Christianity over the internet becomes unbearable.
Are you considering becoming Catholic?! Say yes, say yes!
Not actively although never say never. My personal situation makes converting to anything else very improbable.

Keep watching EWTN, you’ll learn so much more than can be taken in on these posts. The Journey Home is a good place to get a good balance. At least you can be properly informed and that’s a good thing since so many Prots aren’t aware of the true teachings and theology of the Church. Good luck with your condition. I know the trouble it can cause, believe me. We’ll pray for you.

Oh I like the “Journey Home”…have watched it several times.

I hang out here because I have faith that Catholics will eventually see that the surest way to God is through the study of Torah and observing His commandments.

GREAT answer! As Catholics, we do study the Torah and observe all his commandments. The Catholic Church unlike many new Christian sects is firmly rooted in the OT. The odd thing about it though, is that very attachment to the Torah is one of the things many new Christian groups finds the most problematic about Catholicism. But they deny Gods full expression, the full story. The Catholic Church IS the Church of the ‘NEW COVENANT’, the progression from the old to the new. The life of the FULFILLMENT of the Old Covenant promises. That is why the Torah is so dear to Christ’s Church. That is why the light of Christ in reflected back to Judaism.

Hi,

Im not catholic but I feel the same way.👍

Well I was born a Southern Baptist, converted to Roman Catholic when I was 32, now I have been attending services at the Episcopal Church, for various reasons. I will probably be leaving the Roman Catholic faith. But this forum is interesting. I may stay on the forum…

You might not be Catholic in name, but deep down you just might be. 😛 You have a big heart and sooner or later the Holy Spirit will capture you and bring you Home!! :yup: 😃

It is the charitable thing for us to do.
And you need to feel good about doing so
I don’t know about you, but when a Catholic speaks about charitable acts it is for the Glory of God and not to make us feel good. Why do you keep on making such crude remarks? There’s no need for that. 🙂 We just want to be charitable for God. ❤️
