We should focus one at a time and the main one is JESUS if once you come to the truth of who Jesus is all other teachings will follow. Not to be discharitable but all your belief above on contrary to Christianity… but let’s focus on Jesus - -

First Catholic Teaching on the Trinity is not 3 GODs but One GOD 3 divine persons. Old Testament gave hints of it but not in full revelation.

John - in the beginging was the word. the word was with GOD and the Word was GOD (not a god) but GOD… how was the word with GOD? because he was GOD. Notice the Word in the begining already WAS.

Mark - John the Baptist preaches “prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his path” NWT has Jehovah, but who did John the baptist prepare the people for Jesus, Jesus is the Lord or like the NWT puts it JEHOVAH.

John 8:58 before Abraham was I AM (Exodus 3:14) I AM WHO AM, I AM THE BEING ONE. in Leviticus 24:16 anyone who blaspheme the name of the Lord is punished by stoning… the Jews understood what Jesus meant and picked up stones to stone him. By the way the NWT altered this passage as well.

John 5:17-18 “But Jesus answered them, “My Father is working still, and I am working.”
[18] This was why the Jews sought all the more to kill him, because he not only broke the Sabbath but also called God his Father, making himself equal with God.”

Why when Jesus called GOD his Father it made the Jews say he was equal to GOD? Aren’t we all called to be sons and daughters of GOD? The reason was Jesus calling GOD is Father was saying he has the same essence as the Father, what essence? GOD, the Father works on the Sabbath because he is GOD and upholds all, he is the Lord of the Sabbath (the Father) so Jesus too say that he works on the Sabbath because he is Lord of the Sabbath (Luke 6:5).

John 20:28 Thomas praises and refers to Jesus as “My Lord and my God!" A better translation from the Greek reads The Lord of me and the God of me!

Mark 5:19 – 20 ……”Go into thy house to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord (NWT have Jehovah) hat done for thee, and had had mercy on thee. [20] And he went his way, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men wondered.” Here the Lord Jesus was referring to was himself for what he had done to the man, and the man stated it all what Jesus did for him, your own NWT calls him Jehovah

Matthew 21:9,15-16 “and the multitude that went before and that followed, cried, saying :Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the hightest.” This is a reference to Psalm 118:25 – 26 and what does verse [25] of that Psalm reads? O Lord, save me O Lord, give good success and then verse [26] blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord.
This cry to Jesus angered the chief priests and scribes as you read in verse 15-16, and how does Jesus response to them by quoting Psalm 8:3 “have you never read: “Out of the mouth of infants and of sucklings thou has perfected praise?” Let’s see Psalm 8 “O Lord, our Lord, how admirable is thy name in the whole earth! For thy magnificence is elevated about the heavens. Out of the mouth of infants and of sucklings thou has perfected praise…….”

Here in Psalms 8 the shouting out is to Jehovah GOD and how the infants will shout with perfect praise and well Jesus is saying that the same to him and that is why the correct translation in Matthew should be Hosanna which means save us O, Lord… he is implying that they are praising correctly because he is Jehovah GOD… again not the Father but the Son and hence same nature as the Father so he also is GOD Jehovah

HEBREWS 1 1:13 clearly show that Jesus is of the same exact substance as the Father and upholding all things. In verse 5 it say “and to what angel hath he said, Thou are my Son…” No angel, no arc angel, no regular angel no angel has he call His Son, there this shows Jesus is not an angel or better is not Michael the arc angel. And if you read this whole chapter of Hebrews 1 the writer gives Jesus the same references as Jehovah GOD in from Psalms 102:25-26 [25] Of old thou didst lay the foundation of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of thy hands.
[26] They will perish, but thou dost endure;
they will all wear out like a garment.
Thou changest them like raiment, and they pass away In Hebrews ver 10 -11 this passage is applied to Jesus hence Jesus is Jehovah.

Romans 10: 9-13, reads “If thou confess with thy mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in thy heart that GOD raised him up from the dead, thou shall be saved.” Verse [13] then quotes the Old Testament Joel 2:32 by saying “For whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Here the NTW reads call upon Jehovah and it’s okay but realize this calling upon is referring to Jesus calling upon Jesus and believing that he is Lord or Jehovah which the NTW clearly shows, so again Jesus is Jehovah, not the Father but the Son.

Romans 14:6-9 is about whether we eat or live or die we are the Lord’s (NWT reads Jehovah) but then when you read verse 9 it states that this is why Christ died and rose that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living, clearly showing that he is Jehovah.

Philippians 2:6-11 is a good definition of who Jesus is, verse 6 says “who being in the form of GOD but thought is robbery to be equal with GOD: but emptied himself, taking the form of men.” Here is why we can see Jesus and not die, being that he is GOD, because he empty himself coming down not as his very being but became man. He is both True GOD and True Man. GOD has given him a name that is above all names that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow and tongue confess that he is Lord. This is in reference to the name of Jehovah that all shall bow and confess that Jehovah is GOD. Here Jesus and Jehovah the same. Act 410,12 [10]that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by him this man is standing before you well. [12]And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

Colossians 1:15-17 [15] He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation; [16] for in him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or authorities – all things were created through him and for him. [17] He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. In the NWT the translators added the word [other] in verse 16 twice even though that word is not in the Greek manuscripts. This of course was done to disprove Jesus is the creator of all because by saying other, JW’s are saying GOD created Jesus and Jesus then creator all other… False translations to support false teachings and remember we cannot add or take away words to and from the bible as the JW have done. I have a NWT copy at home an I clearly see all the adding and taking away when it shows Jesus is GOD.

Jesus is refer to as in Revelation as Alpha Omega, First and the Last, Beginning and the End all same names as Jehovah GOD why because Jesus is Jehovah GOD, not the Father but the Son

1 JOHN 5 19:20 We know that we are of GOD, and teh whole world is seated in wickedness. And we know that the Son of GOD is come: and he has given us understanding that we may know the true GOD, and be in his True Son. This is the TRUE GOD and life eternal.
did you catch that Here Jesus reveals to us the TRUE GOD but he also is TRUE and is refer to as the TRUE GOD and life eternal.

Mark 10:17 - 21 the rich man calls Jesus GOOD MASTER, Jesus asks him “why call me Good, non is good but one that is GOD.” here Jesus is trying to make the man ponder with that question of why he calls Jesus GOOD master… Jesus gives him the answer of saying he is good because he is GOD.

we can go on and on… who created all things? In Isaiah, GOD stated he alone created all things none was with him, NT states Jesus created all things, hence Jesus is GOD, not the Father but the Son ONE GOD…

We then looked up in “their” bible, the words where Jesus said to baptise in the Name of the Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit. She then even read this out loud, then said to me, well he (Jesus) really didn’t mean it that way.

It didn’t surprise me at all that even though “their” bible says what Jesus says, it was “over looked”.

Of course she wants to do a Bible Study. I highly doubt she’ll be back as I offered to do a “Catholic Bible Study” with her too. …
A JW came to my door a few months ago, and I became curious about them and found the following to be interesting. One of the points made in one article is that they reason backwards. An example is that the bible they use is not a real Bible but one that they modified to suit their beliefs, so it is good that you used your bible instead of letting them use theirs as some form of objective truth without question.

History of the Jehovah’s Witnesses

Strategies of the Jehovah’s Witnesses

Stumpers for the Jehovah’s Witnesses

They are very well rehearsed on the questions they can expect to encounter and have encountered before. If your questions are not covered in their repertoire, rest assured they will be addressed at a future strategy meeting.

Just out of curiousity—why do you answer the door when you know it’s JWs trying to recruit? Personally, I’ll let them ring the doorbell and stand their for 15 minutes and completely ignore the fact that they’re there (they arrive like clockwork on Saturday mornings, and you can see them walking around the neighborhood well before they reach our door so you know who, what, and why). No interest in listening to their cult-like nonsense.

In my area they tend to come on Sunday, and I have been told it’s to try and catch people who are disaffected with other churches. They also keep records of visits, so if you get in a tussle bad enough they might start skipping your place.

i guess because if we truly believe in Jesus as the Savior GOD in Flesh and believe that he desires us all to partake of his true presence in the Eucharist and if we truly believe in his real presence in the EUcharist where we can adore and come for comfort strength, guidance, mercy love as we come to visit Him in the Tabernacle or during adoration, should not we want others to come to him too, as we know He Jesus makes us all feel that great joy that the world cannot give that we all hunger for… we will not rest until we rest in GOD (augustine) and so i want the JW’s to come to know the true Jesus the True GOD then their life their door to door will be more meaning ful.

Dave

Thank you for being bold enough to come here and to be willing to be “ganged” up on! I’m late to this conversation so have only been able to skim. I actually found your analysis of the Lazarus parable fascinating and I think it has much merit. I’ve never thought it was intended to represent an actual event as some contend.

However, I think we often lose our focus and start to major on the minors! The Apostle Paul said it comes down to one thing, and so I quote from the New World Translation:

*1 Corinthians 15:1-58

1 Now I make known to YOU, brothers, the good news which I declared to YOU, which YOU also received, in which YOU also stand, 2 through which YOU are also being saved, with the speech with which I declared the good news to YOU, if YOU are holding it fast, unless, in fact, YOU became believers to no purpose.

3 For I handed on to YOU, among the first things, that which I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; 4 and that he was buried, yes, that he has been raised up the third day according to the Scriptures; 5 and that he appeared to Ce´phas, then to the twelve. 6 After that he appeared to upward of five hundred brothers at one time, the most of whom remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep [in death]. 7 After that he appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 8 but last of all he appeared also to me as if to one born prematurely. *

And another thing, Witnesses only hold what we would call a Communion service once a year - and only the annointed are supposed to partake. The rest just watch.

No answer, so I will continue…

Now, from what I have gathered in reading posts on this site…the Trinity doctrine is not a simple idea. Instead, it is a complex set of separate ideas that have been brought together over a period of time and interlocked into one another.

From the picture of the Trinity doctrine that appeared after the Council of Constantinople in 381 C.E., from the Tome of Damasus in 382 C.E., from the Athanasian Creed that came some time later, and from other documents, we can clearly determine what all of Christendom means by the Trinity doctrine. It includes the following definite ideas:
  1. There are said to be three divine persons—the Father, the Son, and the holy spirit—in the Godhead.
  2. Each of these separate persons is said to be eternal, none coming before or after the other in time.
  3. Each is said to be almighty, with none greater or lesser than the other.
  4. Each is said to be omniscient, knowing all things.
  5. Each is said to be true God.
  6. However, it is said that there are not three Gods but only one God.
To me the Trinity doctrine is a complex set of ideas including at least the above vital elements and involving even more, as revealed when the details are examined. But if we consider only the above basic ideas, it is apparent that if any are removed, what remains is no longer Christendom’s Trinity. To have the complete picture, all these pieces must be present.

Was it a teaching of Jesus and his disciples?

If so, it should have appeared fully formed in the first century of our Common Era. And since what they taught is found in the Bible, then the Trinity doctrine is either a Bible teaching or it is not. If it is, it should be clearly taught in the Bible.

It is not reasonable to think that Jesus and his disciples would teach people about God and yet not tell them who God is, especially when some believers would be asked to give up even their lives for God. Hence, Jesus and his disciples should have given the highest priority to teaching others about this vital doctrine. Compare John 17:3

I invite you to search the Bible, especially the 27 books of the Christian Greek Scriptures, to see for yourself if Jesus and his disciples taught a Trinity. As you search, ask yourself:
  1. Can I find any scripture that mentions “Trinity”?
  2. Can I find any scripture that says that God is made up of three distinct persons, Father, Son, and holy spirit, but that the three are only one God?
  3. Can I find any scripture that says that the Father, Son, and holy spirit are equal in all ways, such as in eternity, power, position, and wisdom?
Search as you may, you will not find one scripture that uses the word Trinity, nor will you find any that says that Father, Son, and holy spirit are equal in all ways, such as in eternity, power, position, and wisdom. Not even a single scripture says that the Son is equal to the Father in those ways—and if there were such a scripture, it would establish not a Trinity but at most a “duality.” Nowhere does the Bible equate the holy spirit with the Father.

“The formula itself does not reflect the immediate consciousness of the period of origins; it was the product of 3 centuries of doctrinal development.”
----New Catholic Encyclopedia, 1967, Volume XIV, page 295

Many may say that the Bible “implies” a Trinity. But this claim is made long after the Bible was written. It is an attempt to read into the Bible what clergymen of later times arbitrarily decided should be doctrine.

Ask yourself: Why would the Bible only “imply” its most important teaching—who God is?

The Bible is clear on other basic teachings; why not on this, the most important one?

Would not the Creator of the universe author a book that was clear on his being a Trinity if that were the case?

The reason the Bible does not clearly teach the Trinity doctrine is simple: It is not a Bible teaching. Had God been a Trinity, he would surely have made it clear so that Jesus and his disciples could have taught it to others. And that vital information would have been included in God’s inspired Word. It would not have been left to imperfect men to struggle with centuries later.

continued…

The New Testament clearly teaches the Father is GOD, Jesus is GOD and the Trinity is GOD. being that there is only One GOD for scripture cannot contradict then hence there is ONE GOD 3 Divine Persons.

The Holy Spirit will Guide us to all truth… now according to your JW’s teaching the light gets brighter and able to understand the truth… well the Holy Spirit has guided the Church to better understand the relationship between the Father, Son and HOly Spirit.

So are you saying it’s okay for the JW"S to get teachings wrong because the light just get brighter but it’s not okay for Christians from the begining get a better understanding of GOD the revelation of GOD?

Let me use your logic for us Christians the light got brighter… LOL remember the reason for the council was not to make up something new, for this was the teaching already since the 100AD that Jesus is GOD but there came Arian who taugh contrary and well a council had to come to dispell the false teachings of Arianism.

[When we examine texts offered by Trinitarians as evidence that the Bible “implies” a Trinity, what do we find? An honest appraisal reveals that the scriptures offered do not speak of Christendom’s Trinity. **Instead, theologians try to force into the scriptures their preconceived ideas of a Trinity. But those ideas are not in the scripture texts. In fact, those Trinitarian ideas conflict with the clear testimony of the Bible ]

that’s your opinion but for me not a biblical scholar it is so evident in scripture… The author or the NWT realized it and altered the passages that show Jesus as being GOD…

sorry my previous post is suppose to be answering a quote from Dave the JW… sorry my computer acting a little funny with me. =)

If Jesus didn’t teach the Trinity, why did he tell his disciples to baptize in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit?

Well, when I had the JW visit me, I listened for a little while and then politely told them that I too had done some Bible study and quoted some of my well rehearsed chapters/verses. I said this is your version, and that is the Catholic translation. I have been born, brought up in the Catholic faith and as an adult made it my own, I am very convinced with my beliefs as you are with yours. I have no intention of changing to anything else, so thank you very much I won’t be reading your literature so don’t waste it on me.

I have two Witnesses stop by my house about once a week. It’s supposed to be a bible study but we usually just end up shooting pool in the den and yes, Heaven forfend, drinking a beer or two. They’re nice guys with all the same problems, hopes and dreams my Catholic friends have. They have long since stopped trying to convert me, possibly because they’re afraid their wives might find out what they do on Thursday evenings.

… 381 C.E. … 382 C.E…
Not to digress, but as a Catholic Christian, I for one have refused to use the “Common Era” notation. Why? Because since it first appeared, I suspected it was to deny the truth of Christ. What I suspected is true: “Common Era notation has been adopted in several non-Christian cultures, by many scholars in religious studies and other academic fields, and by others wishing to be sensitive to non-Christians, because Common Era does not explicitly make use of religious titles for Jesus, such as Christ and Lord, which are used in the BC/AD notation.” Wikipedia.com
“Whenever you increase sensitivity, you increase the false alarm rate.” Old radar engineering rule.

We cover the territory as often as possible. Will only no call if specifically asked. No safety of topic consideration needed.

1 thess 4:16 describes the command of Jesus as “the archangels call” in most Bibles. Jude 9 calls the archangel Michael. What is the problem?

On the cross: Did you know the cross is a religious symbol that pagans used long before Christ walked the earth. I am trying to upload (but not sure if it has worked) a photo i took in the British Museum of a carving of a 700BC Assyrian king with a cross around his neck, worshipping a trinity of his gods.

http://forums.catholic-questions.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=6843&stc=1&d=1256203445

Why would the true Christians adopt pagan customs and beliefs?

I’ve worked out how to add that. Thanks.
This has probably been asked in a further post, but in case it is not… #1 How do you know what’s around his neck is a religious cross? Maybe it is military. What do the historians say it is? #2 How do you interpret that this is a trinity representation? #3 There are also two other archangels named, Raphael and Gabriel. Are these also Jesus?forums.catholic-questions.org/images/smilies/confused.gif

see Jere. 25:4

Christendom has been duly warned of the sure destruction in store for her. Yes, just like during the final days of Jerusalem in Jeremiah’s days, Jehovah God has raised up his anointed witnesses to be a modern Jeremiah class. (2*Chron. 36:15, 16) Regularly, to the church members of Christendom, Jehovah has sent these Christian witnesses of his, he, as it were, “daily getting up early and sending them.” (Jer. 7:25, 13) But all in vain!
3 However, Christendom’s “prophets” and “priests” have refused to take heed. They do not like to have their “flocks” disturbed. So they give them false assurances that belie God’s prophecies. It was like that in Jeremiah’s day. It was like that in the days of Christ’s apostles. (Jer. 5:20, 21; Matt. 13:13-15; Acts 28:25-27) Do you want to be like those misled people and refuse to take heed?

Bob4BVM;Its the ingratitude that really makes me angry. It just so happens, that this attitude has been and continues to be, my experience with the JWs. I don’t see it in Mennonites or Amish, or Quakers, or even in Buddhists, for pete’s sake… You know??
Hitler’s entire army was made up of Cathlolics, Baptists, Mormans and the rest of christendom. The same in the US armys…What would have happened if all of the “leaders of the flocks” told their people not to fight?

That is what happened with the JWs–around the world. They listened to their Elders and refused to fight.

Matt. 26:52: “Jesus said to him: ‘Return your sword to its place, for all those who take the sword will perish by the sword.’” (Could there have been any higher cause for which to fight than to safeguard the Son of God? Yet, Jesus here indicated that those disciples were not to resort to weapons of physical warfare.)

(Luke 22:38) ...Then they said: “Lord, look! here are two swords.” He said to them: “It is enough.”…two swords enough? YES! for an object lesson about warfare

again–Return your sword to its place, for all those who take the sword will perish by the sword.’

Isa. 2:2-4: “It must occur in the final part of the days that the mountain of the house of Jehovah will become firmly established above the top of the mountains . . . And he will certainly render judgment among the nations and set matters straight respecting many peoples. And they will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore.” (Individuals out of all nations must personally decide what course they will pursue. Those who have heeded Jehovah’s judgment give evidence that he is their God.)

2 Cor. 10:3, 4: “Though we walk in the flesh, we do not wage warfare according to what we are in the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly, but powerful by God for overturning strongly entrenched things.” (Paul here states that he never resorted to fleshly weapons, such as trickery, high-sounding language, or carnal weapons, to protect the congregation against false teachings.)

Luke 6:27, 28: “I [Jesus Christ] say to you who are listening, Continue to love your enemies, to do good to those hating you, to bless those cursing you, to pray for those who are insulting you.”

**(1 John 4:11-12) 11 Beloved ones, if this is how God loved us, then we are ourselves under obligation to love one another. **(Not kill each other of the same religion just because the goverment leaders say to do so!)****12 At no time has anyone beheld God. If we continue loving one another, God remains in us and his love is made perfect in us.

Compare: (Luke 4:5-8) 5 So he brought him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the inhabited earth in an instant of time; 6*and the Devil said to him: “I will give you all this authority and the glory of them, because it has been delivered to me, and to whomever I wish I give it. 7 (THAT is what all the fighting is about!!)
You, therefore, if you do an act of worship before me, it will all be yours.” 8 In reply Jesus said to him: “It is written, ‘It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.’”

Don’t be mislead! (1 John 4:20-21) 20 If anyone makes the statement: “I love God,” and yet is hating his brother, he is a liar. For he who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot be loving God, whom he has not seen. 21 And this commandment we have from him, that the one who loves God should be loving his brother also.

Out of the 100,000,000 people killed in the 20th century in warfare no one was killed by a Jehovah 's Witness…ushmm.org/wlc/article.php?lang=en&ModuleId=10005394

That’s funny. 😃

It’s funny you don’t believe the Bible (compiled and canonized by the Catholics) teaches the Trinity. You believe Jesus is merely a prophet? Or Michael the Archangel? Funny how most JWs deny they believe Jesus is Michael – yet the literature you serve tells otherwise.

Who is the Alpha and the Omega?👍👍

Have you ever read Hebrews chapter 1? To whom are the OT psalms referring? To YHWH or to Jesus? Or could it be that… no… couldn’t be?

The Holy Spirit can be grieved… (Isaiah 63:10, Eph. 4:30). Hardly electricity.

I take no stock in a 19th Century cult basing the name of God on an English deformation of “YHWH” and applying it to the Almighty God, let alone one whose 1951 NWT contradicts their previous “translations” (based off of English).

The good news is if I don’t have an immortal soul and I will simply cease to exist, I don’t have to worry about hell or condemnation if I reject your foolish, godless teachings! I will simply be non-existent – which will be much better than spending eternity on Earth with the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

I apologize for my candor but your teachings would be laughable if their effects were not so deadly to your souls.

Wow! Nice way to provide a rebuttal to her statement that they don’t baptise in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit! 👍

It is well known that the Jehovah’s Witnesses are a cult and that they use unscrupulous means of “witnessing” to others. I also suggest the following links:
