When they show up it generally listen to their little talk, accept their literature and tell them what church I attend and they leave.

Today was not really any different, yet I see threads like this and people say they got into long interesting conversations. What sort of things do you guys bring up to get such a conversation going? (they said they may come back sometime)

When they come to my door, I challenge them on their belief that only 144,000 will get into heaven. When they affirm that they believe that’s true, I say,

“If that’s the case, wouldn’t you want to keep this thing quiet?”

😃

Bible Steve, it has always confused me why JW’s carry Bibles with them and claim to be Christian when they reject so much of the Gospels in place of the heresy of Arianism.

Dear beckycmarie,

JW’s do not believe in the Trinity dogma, but the fact we are not Trinitarians doesn’t make us Arians.

For example, in one of the few writings of Arius that has survived, he claims that God is beyond comprehension, even for the Son. In line with this, historian H.*M.Gwatkin states in his book The Arian Controversy: “The God of Arius is an unknown God, whose being is hidden in eternal mystery. No creature can reveal him, and he cannot reveal himself.” Jehovah’s Witnesses worship neither the “incomprehensible” God of the Trinitarians nor the “unknown God” of Arius. They say, with the apostle Paul: “There is actually to us one God the Father, out of whom all things are.”—1Corinthians 8:6.

What about Jesus? Do you believe Jesus is God or a created being?

Dear beckycmarie,

Secondly, Jehovah’s Witnesses cannot be accused of Arianism, because they disagree with Arius’ views in many respects. For example, Arius denied that the Son could really know the Father. The Bible teaches that the Son ‘fully knows’ the Father and that the Son is “the one that has explained him.” (Matthew 11:27; John 1:14,*18) Arius claimed that the Word became God’s Son “by adoption” because of his virtue or moral integrity. The Bible says that he was created by Jehovah as his “only-begotten son.” (John 1:14; 3:16; Hebrews 1:2; Revelation 3:14) Arius taught that Christians could hope to become equal to Christ, whereas the Bible states that God gave him “the name that is above every other name.” (Philippians 2:9-11) Far from being modern-day Arians, Jehovah’s Witnesses believe what the Bible says.

Jesus is my Lord and my God, so on that fundamental truth we are at an impasse. Thanks for the information.

How come every time JWs come to my house they say “I see you have a TV there” and point at it? Before I moved here I had it only for videos for my daughter (no receeption or cable) so it always thew me off (TV? what TV?) Today he said, “I see you have a TV there, Oh I guess it’s a computer…” like it messed up his speil or something. I guess I can’t figure what a TV has to do with anything? And why does my not using TV confuse them so?

You might also find the following articles useful:
I have searched the Jehovah’s Witness website many times and read a good number of articles by the prompting of a co-worker (who by the way says anything off of the internet cannot be trusted  )

I have found the articles and arguments that I have read thus far speculative, seriously up to interpretation, and entirely reliant on the acceptance of the Jehovah’s Witness organization as authority, which has very little, if any, evidence for.

Tell me why the Jehovah’s Witness organization has authority when a set of beliefs like yours has no record of having existed together before Charles Taze Russell.

I’ve developed a questionaire/application for door-to-door evangelizers. They are welcome to fill it out and return it to me.

As for JW’s, I find their stand on artificial birth control (especially abortificients) historically unchristian. And their “conspiracy theory” of the Catholic Church kinda “Roswellian”.

LOL, My Stepdad tells them all about Arianism, My aunt says she is a Witness for Jehovah too and shows them the name Jehovah in scripture… a friend lies and says she is a satanist and that they interrupted her offering a goat sacrifice - do they want to join her… But I never heard of someone offering a questionare… what questions do you ask? and how many fill it out?

Bible Steve,

If Jesus is not God, how do you explain John 20:26-29?

Ask steve about the generation of 1914 not passing away before armagedon.

hey, did not the JW teach that Christ returned in 1914 and is in Brooklyn?! Also Abraham etal were to return in the 20’s.

As to scripture…some one else asked about it…they use the New World Translation…but for door to door the ones in my area use the KJV. The NWT has taken references to the divinty of Christ out. Like in the beginning of chapter 1 of St John. In scripture “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was God” to “In the beginning was the word and the word was a god.”

They are Arians in belief. But since most are not allowed to read anything but the Watchtower material, they do not understand the heresy.

They, for the most part, are nice people that you would invite to a cookout. They are just as lost as a short neck goose in tall grass.

Beckycmarie,

If you’re interested in understanding the answer, just read the link I previous sent you.

Here’s the section that deals with your question:

What About Trinity Proof Texts?
Okay, I checked it out, and here’s what your source says.
But what about the apostle Thomas’ saying, “My Lord and my God!” to Jesus at John 20:28? To Thomas, Jesus was like “a god,” especially in the miraculous circumstances that prompted his exclamation. Some scholars suggest that Thomas may simply have made an emotional exclamation of astonishment, spoken to Jesus but directed to God. In either case, Thomas did not think that Jesus was Almighty God, for he and all the other apostles knew that Jesus never claimed to be God but taught that Jehovah alone is “the only true God.”—John 17:3.
If this is true, why did Jesus not immediately rebuke Thomas for breaking both the 1st and 2nd commandments? Instead, he affirms Thomas’s exclamation of “My Lord and my God” with,

“Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:29

The text CLEARLY says Thomas was speaking directly to Jesus. Even your New World Translation makes that clear.

How is it possible for Jesus, the son of God even as you believe, to ever speak both truth and lies, or to allow someone to continue believing in serious error without correction? The answer is he doesn’t. Had Jesus not been God, and had Thomas taken the Lord’s name in vain, Jesus most certainly would have soundly rebuked him.
