Kaepernick controversy

Well, the military flyovers are a huge recruiting tool. You’d be surprised at how many join the military because of memories of seeing air shows, parades or flyovers at sporting events.
The large flags and music are a way the NFL invokes patriotism in marketing their sports and building excitement for the game.

Okay, the internet was not working, I wrote this answer and will post pronto:
I think this is the second the time you’ve linked Kaepernick to Castro and Cuba.

I don’t get it. Can you explain?

Just curious.
I think the way he couches his words shows a manner of sympathizing and expressing the ideals of the Cuban Revolution, this is not a knock on Kaepernick. Many of us have had a youthful idealism. Also, I’ve read more about this in the past, he has/had (?) a girlfriend who was a bit into radicalism (and a discjockey in fact in the SF Bay area). I’m not knocking it.

For example, talking about bringing up the literacy rate has been a long time bragging point of Cuba, a way of saying, “this is what the Revolution has done”.
“What I said was I agree with the investment in education,” Kaepernick said. “I also agree with the investment in free universal health care, as well as the involvement in helping end apartheid in South Africa.”

Kaepernick continued by saying some people misinterpreted his comments.

“Trying to push the false narrative that I was a supporter of the oppressive things he [Castro] did is just not true,” Kaepernick said. “I said I support the investment in education, I never said I support the oppressive things he [Castro] did.”

. Kaepernick was quoted by the Herald as saying Castro did help create the “highest literacy rate because they invest more in their educational system than they do in their prison system, which we do not do here [United States] even though we’re fully capable of doing that.”…

Castro has books out, they are available in some stores, mainly left wing type stores in some cities but… pretty widely available in Spanish in Latin America.

I hope this is clear, this is the subject of whole college classes actually.

If one has a shortwave radio (not as popular now as in the past), one can find Radio Havana Cuba, they would broadcast things like the above.

These answers get too long and convoluted. Pardon me if I missed you asking this earlier. Thank you for your kindness and response. Thanks for your patience.

I’ve been to Cuba. They actually do have an impressive literacy rate for what is essentially a third-world nation. Like Kaepernick, I can believe that’s a worthwhile achievement without praising or supporting other elements of the Cuban government and its policies.

Really, I don’t think this makes him a “Castroite.”

As to investment in schools versus investment in prisons, I share Kaepernick’s concern (as quoted in your post – I actually haven’t read much, if anything, about what he thinks on this subject). I know my own state spends (in my opinion) disproportionately on corrections as compared to schools.

I don’t think this is such a big deal. I don’t think Kaepernick is a “Castroite.”

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

I’m happy for their freedom to do as they wish…

Fun trivia: The longest NFL game in the history!

I don’t believe I called him a Castroite, What he says, in other things, I think sounds over all like 1960s radical talk.

By the way, I believe in their right to free speech.

I also believe BLM is found on a lot of faulty information.

I believe in their right to protest, I believe in my right not to watch their games or should I feel the need, to boycott Nike.

Bringing the illiteracy rate down in Cuba is good, it was also done about 45 years ago, so they are still living on that.

Before the revolution, I’ve heard something like per capita income for Cuba was the best in Latin America. Now, it is impoverished.

People flee there, risk drowning, give all just to get to the United States.

Kaepernick gave $25,000 to the Center for Reproductive Rights, which carries out the slaughter of pre-born babies. This is the outfit who took part in the Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Rode Vs. Wade with the tag line: "Happy 40th Anniversary, Baby." This is not only sick, it is depraved. How can anyone hate little babies that much?

Interesting website to which you link. Very anti-Catholic. Apparently they publish articles opposing Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court because of his supposed ties to the Catholic hierarchy. I guess it’s kind of like the way Al Smith was going to dig a tunnel to the Vatican so the Pope could give him orders if he was elected to the presidency.

Oh, also, the Republican nominee Kavanaugh was involved in the cover-up of Vince Foster’s murder (presumably by Hillary Clinton).

Yeah, I’ll pass.

I do believe you are bearing stating a falsehood, it is not an anti-Catholic website, in fact, you have just insulted 2 prominent Catholics that write for that website, Alan Keyes, a black man btw and firm pro-lifer and Matt Abbort, a renown Catholic writer.

And I think I’d heard Kaepernick did give money to abortion clinics before in the past, if that is so, anything you are saying really is besides the point.

One author over at Renew America might have some articles that could be questioned, Curt Kincaid, however his name is. Yet, one writer does not the whole website make. It certainly doesn’t pertain to the writer of the article posted.

I think in fact, Renew America is largely the creation of African American pro-life Catholic Alan Keyes who has also run for president.

And once again, throwing stones at the nature of the website will not change the fact, that Colin Kaepernick has likely contributed to abortion clinics.

Some may pass on this, I hope others don’t.

Really? Check out this article:

And Alan Keyes? Yes, he’s a Catholic. Otherwise, I’m not a fan. He’s also a birther, so I’m definitely not a fan.

Good luck, you are shooting the messenger not the message, you are citing some author who wrote there, if it is so important to deny Colin Kaepernick has supported the abortion industry to one, go right ahead.

I repeat myself, the website is basically Alan Keyes’ website, African American, pro-lifer and Catholic. Maybe one has a problem with these demographics then?

You are citing some author who I didn’t quote. BTW, I find articles in the Catholic News section that are not hospitable to the Catholic faith, so I think you’ve just got to find something. Again, it is wrong to state falsehoods.

And? And? Pro-Life, you know, go ahead and be a big fan of Kaepernick who apparently supports the abortion industry. We have different priorities.

Anyway, it shows how one is desperately reaching, to quote some author who wasn’t even quoted.

Nice try, but the implied accusation of bias against pro-lifers and Catholics won’t stick (because I am both of those things), and the implied accusation of bias against African-Americans has no basis in reality either, and you won’t find any no matter how far back you search in my posts here at CAF.

That said, I absolutely have a bias against birthers.

As to Kaepernick being pro-choice, I wish he wasn’t. I wish nobody was. It doesn’t mean I don’t think he has some other points to make, or that the method he’s chosen to make his points is all that terrible.

It is, if that website publishes anti-Catholic articles.
And it is a website launched by Catholic Alan Keyes. But it is anti-Catholic. Okay, have it your way. You haven’t proven anything. This website gets all kinds of things posted in Catholic news.

Also, obviously, you are deflecting, the key issue here is Colin Kapernick has given large donations to abortion centers. Also, fitting in with the left wing agenda.
