If this current trend continues, without divine intervention, The ongoing pogrom of deferring to Bishops conferences for the interpretation of Doctrine and Faith will do more damage than Luther and the myriad of "Protest"ant deviants ever thought possible. The One, Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church will be divided into a multitude of National and regional sects, each on giving it’s own interpretation of Dogma. The lack of a response to the Germans proves this.
When one finds oneself headed in the wrong direction, the best tack is to return to where you new where you were before getting lost. Unfortunately the church seems bent on forging ahead blindly while hoping for a good outcome.
And before anyone plays the “Gates of Hell” card, i would advise you to study scripture, Papal Encyclicals, and approved Apparitions and understand what a chastisement really looks like!

Oh, holding people accountable…like the Chilean bishop? Or the Guam bishop given a place of honor recently?
Looks like Pope Francis is dealing with the Chilean bishops…

…and a source less hostile than LifeSiteNews explains the incident with the Bishop from Guam, who was convicted by the Vatican in a tribunal, which is more than can be said about Cardinal Law. He received a plum position when he fled to Rome.

If you don’t like Pope Francis, it’s likely because you’ve been eating apples at the wrong tree.

You are not a very good historian. Luther succeeded for two reasons 1) the Church WAS corrupt and in need of reform, and 2) it was politically advantageous for local princes to go along with it for money & power.

I doubt that will happen in the present age of instant communication. Plus, all your angst is centered on ONE narrow issue: sexual ethics.

The sexual revolution is only a few decades old and is changing our understanding of the nature of women and men, intimate human relationships, and their meaning in society, in as dramatic a fashion as the Copernican revolution and rise of liberal democracies changed our understanding of the universe and government.

The Church needs to figure out how to proclaim the Gospel given these new realities. It took a century for the Church to figure out how to deal with liberal democracies. If the old formulas were working, there would be no need or motivation to seek the Way forward in this uncharted territory.

This is why Jesus appointed a living Magisterium to guide the Church. Peter was the leader, but Paul had to confront and convince him to accept the reality of gentiles being part of the New Covenant regardless of their status under the Old Covenant. In the same way, the Pope needs to listen to and empower his fellow bishops.

All bishops are successors to the Apostles. It’s their job to hash out a plan. The Pope is correct to allow them the freedom to exercise their charism. If necessary he has the authority to referee if disputes cannot be resolved. Once a consensus begins to form, he may call another Ecumenical council to define doctrine for the entire Church.

That is how the system works. How it doesn’t work is for dissidents with no charism, like the folks at LifeSiteNews, to act like Martin Luther and arrogantly protest against the hierarchy in an holier than thou manner. That’s Gnostism.

I’m thinking of how thrilled some posters would be if a priest or bishop from the SSPX were invited to speak at such a conference.

The SSPX doesn’t support infanticide. So there’s a start in the right direction for them.

She was there to talk about meditation — and if you listen to her comments, she spoke about mediation methods she learned in India. These are practices mired in pantheism. I like to keep an open mind when it comes to the Vatican’s methods but…what the what? The woman whose first hit song was “I Kissed a Girl” is invited to speak on practices based in a set of beliefs decried by the Church? And unlike Christ’s approach, I seriously doubt anyone tried to convert her while she was there.

This reminds me of the time that Jesus invited the Pharisees to speak at a conference in the temple area about how to interpret the Law and the Prophets. Wait a minute, I’m looking for that citation; it must be here someplace…
