It is very polite for a political thread, but it will also devolve and the moderators will close it. Almost all political threads take the same path.

You didn’t tell me how I am contributing to any problem. I do not call anyone names, tell them what they’re thinking, say they don’t know what’s going on, etc.

So, what problem? Because I express my own opinion and don’t agree with some of our more vitriolic posters? This is a discussion board. It is a place for opinions. I happen to agree with @FatherMerrin: I think Brett Kavanaugh is one of the most obnoxious SC nominees ever. And I’m proud to stand with Father. So what? I don’t care to change anyone’s opinion of Kavanaugh. Discussion, by its very nature, implies a difference of opinion.

Discussion boards can be enlightening even if people do not agree. I’ve learned I dislike Kavanaugh even more than I thought, but I’ve also learned I do not really trust the testimony of Ford. Far too many red flags. I wouldn’t have come to these conclusions, learned these things, if I hadn’t discussed.

When people attempt impotent attempts at abuse, I just don’t read them any longer. Simple to skip over their posts.

So…how am I contributing to the problem, whatever the problem is?

By imputing negative traits to them, you are insulting them.
Please lighten up. I’m JOKING with them, and they know it.

I don’t lower myself to insults. When people attempt to insult me, I just don’t read them any more.

Are you TRYING to start trouble here?

So does your offer of THAT insult demonstrate your lack of education ?
I don’t mean you, and I think you know that. We don’t agree, but I’be never called you uneducated. You know perfectly well who I was addressing, and you know it wasn’t you.

Are you trying to start an argument? 😉
Yes, he is. Or maybe derail the thread. I’m going back to the topic.

I listened to the interview with Kavanaugh’s college roommate, and I’m more convinced than ever that he doesn’t have the character to be a Supreme Court justice. But I still think he’ll probably be confirmed by a margin of one or two votes.

I don’t really care. When the candidates were Trump and Clinton, I knew I had no one to vote for with a viable chance of winning. So I wrote in a name anyway and resigned myself to four to eight years of Trump. Big deal. We don’t always get what we want, and I didn’t like either candidate. The “He’s not my president” movement was silly. If one is an American, of course Trump is their president. In six more years, I’ll be thirty-nine. That isn’t very old. The pendulum is swinging so far to the right with Trump that it will have no place to go but left. That’s politics. No big deal.

Except, I doubt @FatherMerrin is a Father in the Catholic sense. He is, according to his own profile, “Just another lost soul searching for answers.”

Merely pointing out that your critique applies to you as much as to anyone else.
I don’t lower myself to insults.
Ahem…

…those on this forum so little educated in the topic that all they can do is offer insults.
So does your offer of THAT insult demonstrate your lack of education?

Pot meet kettle.

Well, I’m not Catholic, either. I’m not a lost soul, but I’m not Catholic.

Again, I think you know who I was addressing, and it was not you. I don’t agree with you, but I consider you educated.

So Clinton wasn’t far enough to the left for you?

I see.

No, I’m more of a centrist leaning left.

I think Clinton is a liar who can’t be trusted. Not going to consider voting for a woman I believe would look me in the eyes and lie to me. Look anyone in the eyes and lie to them.

She was probably talking about his slander of Kavanaugh, not his spiritual state.

Well, at least It seems that Clarence Thomas was not only spot on, but prescient when he said this:

“If it can happen to me, it can happen to anybody, anytime, over any issue. Our institutions are being controlled by people who will stop at nothing. They went around this country looking for dirt, not information on Clarence Thomas, – dirt. Anybody with any dirt. Anything. Late night calls. Calls at work. Calls at home. Badgering. Anything. Give us some dirt.”
