I do not trust lifesitenews one bit. To me, their reportage is hysterical. That said, it does not absolve a Bishop of any improper actions.

I agree completely. Lifesite News seems very sensationalist to me. However, if I were a bishop, I would avoid an organization like New Ways ministry entirely.

I think OP addressed this complaint in advance by posting three different articles on the topic from three different perspectives. Pick the angle you prefer and read that.

I, too, tend to distrust what I see from lifesitenews as excessive outrage/hyperbole, but OP helpfully included a link from National Catholic Reporter, so I am able to see that this isn’t an outrage-industry manufactured story.

I think judging the bishops decision is something no one is qualified to do. Maybe he sees the good in this organization and wants to help steer it in the right direction. Goodness knows they are not a Catholic ministry in the proper sense of the word, being dissenters from Catholic teaching. They are a gay ministry that uses some Catholic words and trappings and that disregard what they find difficult, just like the rich man Jesus met. So perhaps saying we should minister more like Jesus is a little misguided.

I did find one mistake, if accurate, the bishop made in one of the articles. He is alleged to have said," “We risk contradicting ourselves if we want our employees to live by the church’s teaching and if we ourselves as an institution don’t live by our teaching, which has always opposed discrimination of any sort.”

No, the Church has always discriminated in many ways, like who is qualified to receive the Eucharist and who can be a priest, to name a couple. It is only unjust discrimination the Church opposes, and that does not extend to so-called marriage equality.

Agree. OP did a good job by providing his three links.

In typical fashion, the Fishwrap dispenser approved of the bishop’s stance, admittedly in a very subdued way.
As for the bishop’s words…hard to believe. 🤷

Erm, why?

Is judging my decision to judge the bishops decision also something no one is qualified to do?
Let me rephrase that to no one here, or at least, probably not. First of all, one would need to have experience in the shepherding of souls. Second, one would need to know all the facts. What makes one qualified to judged? Reading those facts, the speculations and editorial opinions of what one finds on the internet? People have been gullible to journalist and bloggers far too much.

"Christian morality is more concerned with the well-being and dignity of the person than with rules, norms or commandments. Jesus seems to teach this on many occasions."
Good thing he said “seems”.

Jesus said: “If you love Me, you will keep my commandments.” John 14:15. They’re the source of Christian morality, not “nice”, “pastoral” words confirming people on their “highway to hell”!

Sorry, AC/DC! 😊
