I honestly wonder why too. It seems that it evokes such vitriol, like nothing else. It is almost as if its some socially acceptable schoolboy joke that its ok for otherwise pleasant and reasonable people to say things to vegans/vegetarians that they would not think of saying otherwise.

I am glad that you “honestly wonder”–It would be great if you can honestly show me where the Church teaches that animals “go to heaven”.Where do you honestly**** get your ideas from,since Scripture and the Catholic Catechism seems to indicate that only man was created for this purpose?

The new world order.Genisis Chapter 9 1-4

God blessed Noah and his sons,saying to them,“Be fruitful,multiply and fill the earth.Be the terror and the dread of all the wild beasts and all the heavens,of everything that crawls on the ground and all the fish of the sea;they are handed over to you.****Every living and crawling thing ****shall provide food for you,no less than the filiage of plants.”

Remember that this passage was given to Noah; after God drowned every animal except those gathered into the Ark.(I suppose you "believe"all those animals went to heaven?)

Catholic Catechism 356 states ----"Of all visible creatures only man is "able to know and love his creator.He is "the only creature on earth that God has willed for his own sake,and **he alone **is called to share,by knowledge and love,in God’s own life.It was for this end that he was created,and this is the fundamental reason for his dignity"
358 ----"God created everything for man,but man in turn created to serve and love God and to offer all creation back to him:

"What is it that is about to be created,that enjoys such honor?It is man–that great and wonderful living creature,more precious in the eyes of God than all other creatures!For him the heavens and the earth,the sea and all the rest of creation exist.God attached so much importance to his salvation that he did not spare his own Son for the sake of man.
