Well Picard did distinguish himself during First Contact. One wonders where the Federation would be if he obeyed them by not engaging the Borg.

But the Borg is stupid too. If they had sent 3 Cubes instead of 1 (in Star Trek: First Contact) it would spell the end of the Federation and the entire Alpha Quadrant for that matter
 
Insurrection does and Nemisis shortly after. But c’mon. for the previous 7-10 years they are the heroes of Starfleet cruising around in the Federation’s flagship. In TNG, Picard would have negotiated a peaceful end to the Dominion War in about 35 minutes. By the closing scene, Data would have been showing the Jem’Hadar how to play poker or something.😛

First Contact took place in 2372. At this time, the war was about to start. In fact, the Borg took advantage of the hostilities to launch an attack on earth. The Dominion is mentioned in Insurrection. My guess is since the Enterprise-E was such an advanced ship, Starfleet directed them to the DMZ. Much like the Defiant protected the wormhole, the Enterprise most likely handled the DMZ as well as the Maquis. But this is all speculation.

As for Janeway, I think the show would’ve tanked if during every episode she asked everyone if she looked fat in her uniform. 😃

I loved that episode when there was a female Q who didn’t want to be a member of the Continum. She wanted to stay on the USS Enterprise with Picard and the crew. However she joins the Q.

Love the Borg episode with Hugh.

Anytime Quark was on DS9 was enjoyable…the pure pure capitalist.

Somehow I felt bad for Odo…
 
What I find interesting is that we’re talking about the television programs (since they were easily viewed). But what about the novels? Some of the novels fill in the gaps betweeen tv episodes and some take place after the different series’ ended. I’m listening to a book that takes place after DS9, and Jake is wondering about his father. The book is called ‘UNITY’. PLUS, there are a whole set of NEW aliens from the Beta Quadrant!
 
Trek books are just too darn confusing to keep up with.

As for the Borg battle, that was it. It didn’t last THAT long. Same for the Insurrection-era troubles in the Badlands. The Dominion reenforced Cardassians wiped out the Maquis, from what I recall. It just seems flimsy. Sisko wasn’t just guarding the wormhole. He was practically planning the entire show. I mean, he fights then brings the Klingons in, brings in the Romulans…:o They never even mention the Enterprise being in another fleet, do they?

Maybe Brooks and Stewart didn’t get along in REAL life…
 
While the books are enjoyable, they are considered non-canonical, which means that it’s all pure speculation. The authors who write these books are not linked to the writers of the shows. They do offer possibilites though!

The purpose of star trek is to show that Humanity does have room to evolve, to better itself. I don’t think Gene Roddenberry would’ve envisioned a future full of combat.
 
Did anyone here ever watch “Star Trek: Enterprise”?
What I found interesting is that during the first season, there doctor, which I believe was an alien, stated once that he had attended a Mass at St. Peter’s Square. Is this the ONLY reference to Catholism in the Star Trek genre? The comment was made during the show’s first season. Does anyone remember this statement? I somehow remember it and found it most interesting.:hmmm:
 
I only watch Enterprise every now and then. I guess I’m gonna start up the Tivo since it’s just started running on SciFi.

The doctor is Dr. Phlox.
