Kneeling for Communion at OF Mass....

I did not see the priest deny anyone who chose to stand and/or receive in the hand vs kneeling/on the tongue at this OF Mass. The few that stood and did not kneel were elderly even though they approached the rail like all others did. A few were younger but perhaps they were not familiar with the custom of the communion rail, and what to do.

Keep in mind as mentioned in the past post, the priest is elderly himself & does celebrate Masses using both forms. He does have a server assisting him. We do not receive from the chalice / cup either.

Why do we need to embarrass ourselves before God?
youre missing the point. it would be embarrassing to kneel before your boss because it would me an inappropriate and over the top show of submission. with God, on the other hand, no ammount of submission is too much.
I don’t see how surfing while working warrants a confession. But I will discuss that with my confessor. I’m being paid to deliver work, and it doesn’t matter how I get work done as long as I get it done. Its the IT mantra. Our boss even set-up an xbox in the office.
haha its not that way for everyone

Exactly. Thank you.

That’s why I gave up on the thread. It doesn’t make sense to debate just for the sake of debating.

You are right that it would be embarrassing to be kneeling anywhere else. But kneeling is expected in church and thus it is not embarrassing to do so in church.

Even standing or sitting, I wouldn’t pray out loud in the office, bus or train. But I would do so in church. There are many things that are embarrassing or inappropriate to do given the location and situation, not just kneeling.

I know. Its all part of the IT thing that became popular in the last decade.

so you would kneel to your boss in a church? the reason it is ok to kneel in church because god is there. so… if you kneel to pray in church, shouldn’t you kneel to recieve the god of the universe?

I don’t kneel in church on Sundays, which is when I am in church most of the time 😉

I work in IT too and it’s pretty lax. People are on Facebook, they’re sharing movies, browsing etc. Plus I have to browse to do tech reading anyway.

Still, I would not want my boss to come up to me to ask a question and find me on a forum.:o

Same, but somehow that URL bar ends up on forums.catholic-questions.org :o:blush:

Hahaha, same here. But I’m sure I’ve been caught a few times. As long as I’m not missing my deadlines, I’m sure my boss wouldn’t mind. It does help me as well to just focus on something else for a minute or two and then get back to what I was doing. Especially if my mind gets stuck.

If you won’t be kneeling in front of your boss, you sure won’t be surfing in church 😛

Also if I do find myself in a Latin Rite church, I do kneel if there is an altar rail. If not then I stand. I don’t make a fuss out of it. To me its important that I make myself worthy to partake of Christ’s holy, divine, immortal and life-giving mystery, the Eucharist.

im talking about latin churches. this is a roman catholic board.
a. Your question was addressed to me and therefore I will answer in what my situation is.
b. Where does it say that this is an exclusively Roman Catholic board?

no one explicitly said (as far as I know) that it’s exclusively roman catholic, but it is very clear that both this board and catholic answers are roman catholic, latin rite orginizations.

This guy said so, do you know him?

You’re making an assumption here. Over 98% of Catholics are Roman Catholic. If there is any public gathering of Catholics, you will say the same thing because its predominantly Roman Catholic. Would you say World Youth Day is Roman Catholic? Eastern Catholics have representation there. Save for the Traditional Forum, there is nothing on this message board that says its exclusively Roman Catholic.

No, they are Catholic not excluding the eastern rites. This thread, however, was specifically titled for the OF Mass, one of the Latin rite options.

The board and CA are not exclusively Latin but this thread should be. 😉

Corki, you are right. But FatHead asked me a question and therefore I replied with what my situation is. I’m not trying to deflect the thread to become an Eastern discussion, but he asked me if I would kneel in church, so I said I do not kneel in church on Sundays. In fact, we hardly kneel even on weekdays unless its Lent (we do not have the usual kneeling Vespers). Here is FatHead’s reply to my post, and I highlight the words that shows the questions was directed to me as he replied to my post with this. So how else would I answer? Pretend to be Roman Catholic?

Hey, I’m on your side. 🙂 Breathe, ok?

I’m just clarifying that I’m not trying to hijack the thread 😉
I never introduced anything Eastern until I was asked what I would do in church. So I gave and honest and straight answer 👍
