Well my son is 34. Heâs of the video game generation. Quite frankly, a lot of young men wouldnât have any problem seeing themselves as âAthos, Porthos, Aramis, and DâArtagnanâ. Or in a pinch, Antoine DâCoolette

.
In a world where young men (and women) dress as anything from vampires to wanna-be superheroes (cape and all), the traditional uniform is nothing to blink at.
The new outfit though, as I mentioned elsewhere, and others have mentioned here, looks like a middle school Catholic schoolboyâs uniform.
Actually it looks similar to an outfit my nearly 60 year old brother wore some 50 years ago when he was a member of the Young Marinesâemphasis on young as they ranged in age from 9 to 15 (even to the beret).
I donât really understand why Catholics, with their incredible heritage embracing 2000 years of history, and every country in the world, seem to be on the fast track to making everything about their faithâfrom its clothing to its books to its liturgy to its catechesisâinto bland, banal, childish pablum.
As others over the years have noted, you donât get people âon fireâ for something that is so generic and wishy-washy and politically correct. You get people on fire for things that demand time and effort and which reflect that in everything from dress to customs to teachings.
One reason that Islam has become so popular in the world, particularly with young men, is that it is strikingly âdifferentâ. A person who is practicing that faith stands out; he doesnât blend into the background. He doesnât mince and mumble and seem halfway ashamed of his faith and heritage, he proudly proclaims his prayers, makes his fasts, does all the actual reading and praying and mosque attendance. . .while the Catholic Church has spent the last 60 years reducing fasting requirements, âdumbing downâ CCD, making âhipâ Bibles, and seeing its church pews with fewer and fewer and fewer people, especially men.
If the Islam iman told the men at the local mosque to show up wearing a 6th century outfit, including turban, wide sashes, ceremonial swords, etc., theyâd do it in a heartbeat, and nobody would go around whining and complaining that it looked too âfancyâ or âtoo oldfashionedâ and why couldnât they just wear some âregular stuffâ instead.
