Hello, this thread has really helped me out. It is Friday night as I write this, and in the morning I will be receiving my 1st degree with the KofC. I too had many questions, and all where answered here. Thanks everyone for your (name removed by moderator)ut. I recently attended an ACTS retreat and my life was changed for the better! I was also a little selfish, and now I just feel the need to serve and do whatever I can to help anyone in need. Its a great feeling and I plan to keep the fire burning!

God Bless
Fernie from El Paso

I have been a Knight for the past 3 or so years. My council is very laid back, and the requirements are pretty low. We have monthly meetings, do a monthly breakfast, and volunteer to help out where we can in the church. We do what we can in the parish to help where we are needed. If a Knight can’t attend something, it’s no big deal. It’s really very laid back, and it’s mostly for the benefit of the men. Volunteering in the Knights is part of exercising your faith, and at least in my council nobody pressures anyone to help if they can’t do things. I have been able to take part in activities that helps to grow my faith, and I wouldn’t have had these opportunities without the Knights.

I was elected Deputy Grand Knight last month, and as busy as I am, I always manage to find time to do things with the KofC. I am definitely glad I joined, and I encourage ALL Catholic men to at least investigate your local KofC council.

You have nothing to worry about and your will be joining one of the best fraternal service organizations. DO not be scared with your induction ceremony. I am a 3rd degree knight and assure you that the 1st degree ceremony is a little weird…but only because weirdness is part of the “lesson” you will learn (no a humliating lesson but more of a “moral of the story is”)
You will not be expected to say anything more than I do or somthing to that matter…You will not be publicly embarrassed etc.

At the time I thought the ceremony as being a weird thing…but when it was all over I realized that it was relevant.

I urge you to attend the 2nd and 3rd degree induction as well (those are usually done at the same time so you get it done in one afternoon) The 2nd and 3rd induction are EXTREMELY interesting.
However the 1st 2nd and 3rd Degree’s are no longer held at the same time except under certain circumstances.

I’d say the 1st degree is more of a drama than something weird.

Not trying to intentionally drag up an old thread, but this thread comes up pretty high when one googles about the KOC or the first degree exemplification.

I just had my first degree exemplification and I can say there is certainly a lot of misinformation running around the internet. There is nothing scary or weird about it, it is fully in line with The Church and was a wonderful experience.

I have mine on Monday. Is the initiation like the squires?

Although insurance in the Knights is Voluntary I will admit they do push it hard but I love the knights and I’m what you call an associate member cause I don’t have insurance through the knights.

Unfortunately I was never a Squire but I can tell you that the degrees have changed since the days past. Above you will read about the hoods and robes and things like that the hoods were to prevent the candidates going through the degrees to see the other members laughing cause it would ruin the mood. Now they have made the degrees into something amazing and that’s all I will say cause I don’t want to spoil it but please let me know how you liked the degree Monday. I encourage everyone to give the knights another chance I have been involved since 2008 and I love it and I hope you will too.

The old degrees were a bit misleading but it was all explained in the end but I have seen the new degree and I completely agree very well done.

So you can’t be a full knight if you don’t buy the insurance? I am pretty set with my life insurance for myself and my family. I don’t think I will be buying any from the KOC

Nowadays KofC offers other $ stuff besides life insurance. Your agent can fill you in. Mine does a good job of making me aware of options without being pushy.

Got my first order last night! It was cool b/c my dad came and he has been in the nights for46 years. I’m excited about being a part of this group and will get my 2nd and 3rd degree June 1st.

Having said that, I was a little let down by the ceremony. Didn’t really live up to all of the build up. And I’m still not sure what the secret is. Of course I won’t tell anybody about it but I’m hoping that the 2nd and 3rd degree ceremonies are more inspirational. I saw people on this thread saying “it will all make sense after the ceremony” but it never really didn’t make sense during it. Oh well.

First off Welcome to the Knights. Second off The first degree was about the lessons of Charity but when you get the chance to go to another one do so. Because every time you see it you always pick up something that you missed the first time. If you want to talk more email me Knights3591@gmail.com

That’s not at all what I’m saying. You can go as high in the knights as you want to go and do anything anyone else can do regardless if your an “insurance member” or “associate member”. Perfect example I’m an assoc. Member but I’m also a District Deputy and I will run for State Warden in 2 years.

I’m the Chancellor on our 1st degree team, and the effectiveness of each degree event depends a lot on how well it’s presented.

I agree, and the chancellor is the hardest to do on the first degree

Got my 2nd and 3rd degree yesterday. I liked them better than the first degree ceremony. Again, nothing earth shattering but it was nice.

Going for my first degree next Wednesday and was wondering if there is a dress code?

Congrats!

I wore slacks, button up shirt and a tie. I was overdressed for my group. Most were in jeans and a nice shirt. ONe guy was in shorts. I think slacks and a nice shirt is ideal but jeans seem to be acceptable as well.

I am pretty sure that we were instructed to dress no less than business casual.

And, congratulations!
