Going for my first degree next Wednesday and was wondering if there is a dress code?
When I took mine (and dinosaurs roamed the earth) we were told jacket and tie. since then I’ve sometimes seen councils advise at least a collared shirt. Without giving anything away, I think that in addition to making you a respectable looking Catholic Gentleman, it gives you a place to hang a lapel pin.

Depending on A/C conditions, in summer months the dress code may be even more relaxed? I have never seen anyone turned away from a First Degree for dress code violation, but if you are worried you can always ask your sponsor.

Welcome. :tiphat:

I wore a sport coat, shirt at tie to mine and did not feel either over dressed or under dressed. The advantage to a sport coat is that if everyone else is in shirt and tie, or even business casual, you can always hang up the coat when you get there.

But that was also during Fall in Michigan (Nov). as Tee noted, that might vary in summer, especially in warmer locales.

I was told coat and tie was appropriate, and that is what I wore to all my degrees.

Sorry for the delay in writing back but here is an update,
Well I did not make it to my first degree initiation as weather
Had caused it to be canceled so know it will be next month instead.
As for the dress code I did ask the current Grand Knight and he explained that dress pants and a collared shirt was the minimum (business casual).
Still looking forward to that initiation and then ultimately to fourth degree!

Vivat Jesu

I took my 1st, 2d and 3d about a year ago. NC is hot and humid and casual business attire was suggested; khakis and a Polo type shirt were fine.

What you wear is not the issue. What you believe is. God Bless and again, Vivat Jesu.

All I’ve see is a bunch of men trying to sell me insurance.
KoC insurance is a great benefit to members and some have told me that’s the reason they joined. I joined to give back to the community via the church and have observed that I find what I seek. If I seek those who only think about insurance, I’ll find those who only think about insurance. Every month, my brother Knights gather and examine how we can better support the parish and the community and I’m naturally socializing with those who share similar beliefs as mine. Despite being a junior member of the Council, I’ve volunteered for office and was elected for my first office. I’m still growing in understanding of what it means to be a true KoC but I’m sure my fellow Knights will teach me and I’m willing to learn.

808Catholic you are right, I believe in that if what you seek is the insurance you will find the ones interested in the insurance aspect and if you seek the fellowship with the ones who want to give their time to the parish and community that is what you will find also.

I am looking for the fellowship and the possibility of learning even more about this wonderful faith of ours! I need to learn and grow more as well as give back my time to the parish and community who has accepted me into the Catholic family.

Hope I didn’t ramble to much there lol just trying to speak what’s on my head and in my heart!
🙂

Does anybody here have a whole life plan through KOC? What kind of growth are you seeing? How has it performed compared to what they projected?

I do.

When I joined several years ago I took out policies for both myself and my wife; I set it up so that if either of us would meet an untimely demise the other would have enough to pay off the mortgage and not lose the house. Hopefully it will not be necessary and will serve as a nice little nest egg in addition to my other retirement accounts.

I don’t pay much attention to growth like I would with a 401K or a stock investment. With whole life policies, you only really need to be concerned with three things:

How much does it cost per month?

How much will it be worth if I die?

How much will it be worth in the end?

Well I am now officially a 1st degree and I must say it was a very somber and as well as uplifting ritual!

Looking forward to my 2nd and 3rd degrees now.

I personally feel I should wait and work within the 1st degree and learn all the workings of the counsel first before I move onto the next degree.

Thank you everyone who has wished me well and answered some of my odd questions.

Congrats!

I wouldn’t worry about moving right on to second and third degree.

In no hurry what so ever lol need to learn as much as I can through each level or degree
