Jesus lived with Judas for 3 years. He treated Judas with kindness and love. Judas was never asked to resign, or publicly humiliated. I think this whole incident could have been handled in a more charitable way. I can’t help but think that this is the start of an attack against cardinal Burke and a way of silencing the four Cardinals who had the courage to write the dubia.

The point these people are making, however, is that St. John Paul and Benedict, both identified as “conservatives”, did NOT stack the College with “conservatives”.
That is so incorrect.

JPII absolutely stacked the deck with conservatives.

The Pope is not stacking the College - he is placing prelates in the College who he feels are open to change, not rigid, want a more merciful church. Pope Francis will be a transformational Pope a la John 23 IMO. He clearly believes in dialog and is going to choose those who embrace dialog also. .

In Brussels, for instance, Francis passed over Joseph Leonard a few years back. Brussels normally gets a red hat. But this time, with a new and less controversial and more pastoral bishop, Brussels again has a red hat. In Josef de Kesel

The Pope is being guided by the Spirit in his effort to make the church more merciful and less legalistic. No one knows where that will go. Future Popes will determine that and too be guided by the Spirit.

I think Francis wants an open dialogue on many issues. The 2018 synod in part will be about vocations. Female deacons is expected to be brought up and I imagine, on the periphery anyway, female priests will receive some discussion.

No one knows where future Popes will be guided - say on the nature of the priesthood and has the church fully understood it - but believing Catholics have to accept any changes will be done guided by the Holy Spirit.

We must have faith that God is guiding our beloved Pope.

Remember Jesus asks us not to speak out against our Priests and Religious of the Catholic Church, but to pray for them and let Him handle everything.

I disagree. I mentioned a couple names. I could name others. A good number of very progressive minded cardinals were elevated by either St. JPII or Benedict. You really want to tell me that +Kasper or +Danneels or +Marx are “conservatives”?
Even without considering specific examples, it doesn’t make sense… if the previous two popes “stacked the decks” with conservatives, how did +Francis get elected in the first place? They appointed both “conservatives” and “progressives”. Where do you think the “progressive” cardinals came from? They obviously exist. Very few of them are old enough to have been appointed by Bl. Paul or St. John XXIII (if any??). The point is, the previous two popes appointed men from a wide variety of backgrounds and views.
P.S. Who do you think elevated the man who became Pope Francis in the first place?

I entered the Church at the tail end of JPII, beginning of Benedict. A big part of why I did was JP II - I believed that the Church was renewed under him, heading away from the last few decades of ‘spirit of Vatican II.’ The scandals were being addressed, the Church becoming more accountable, healthier, really. Again, this is why I joined. What I see now is trending back to an earlier mindset - so maybe it is a little bit more of a personal crisis than a Church one for me, who knows. Maybe those who have survived a lot of different Popes have a different perspective than I do right now.

The Church has survived many scandals, many doctrinal disputes, and centuries of infighting among the popes and bishops. It survives not by virtue of the personal holiness of the reigning pope or bishops…it is sustained by Christ Himself.

We can certainly speak out against their actions and they can certainly be corrected. Though we should respect the office, it is also sinful for us to remain quiet about objective evil or wrongdoing.

Not quite. What if Pope Francis, in good faith, is being deluded by Satan who as we know can disguise himself as “an angel of light?” What if God’s guidance involves his faithful recognizing a problem and thus helping the Pope to be set free from delusion?

So now, because you disagree with the Pope’s personnel decisions, the Pope actions are “objectively evil” and “deluded by Satan”? Amazing.

This whole episode brings me great sadness.😦
This is an idea that see over and over. Ultimately it is correct. This whole deal doesn’t make anyone look good.

Who created this mess? The condom problem was resolved two years ago. Why did someone suddenly feel that the situation needed to be revisited?
