Actually I think you’re just having problems distinguishing reality from fantasy. It’s fiction. Teddy Roosevelt isn’t alive fighting Nazis on Mars with the help of Thomas Edison’s ghost, even though there really were Nazis and there really were guys named Roosevelt and Edison. The fact that TR is a character in ‘Tales From The Bully Pulpit’ (an excellent comic book, by the way) doesn’t do anything to the history or reputation of the real Teddy.Perhaps I am over- emotional with outrage. Perhaps I have lost the plot!!!
Similarly, there really is a Catholic Church, and there really were people named Constantine and Yeshua and Mary Magdalene and so on, but how they’re presented in a work of fiction doesn’t change anything about them. I could write a book in which Yeshua is actually a robot from outer space, but what does robo-Jesus have to do with the actual person? Not a whole lot!
