Perhaps I am over- emotional with outrage. Perhaps I have lost the plot!!!
Actually I think you’re just having problems distinguishing reality from fantasy. It’s fiction. Teddy Roosevelt isn’t alive fighting Nazis on Mars with the help of Thomas Edison’s ghost, even though there really were Nazis and there really were guys named Roosevelt and Edison. The fact that TR is a character in ‘Tales From The Bully Pulpit’ (an excellent comic book, by the way) doesn’t do anything to the history or reputation of the real Teddy.

Similarly, there really is a Catholic Church, and there really were people named Constantine and Yeshua and Mary Magdalene and so on, but how they’re presented in a work of fiction doesn’t change anything about them. I could write a book in which Yeshua is actually a robot from outer space, but what does robo-Jesus have to do with the actual person? Not a whole lot!

funny, your logic is like saying that FDR at Yalta gave Poland and some 750 million Christians over to the tender hands of Uncle Joe Stalin and its no big deal…those folks probably deserved all they got anyway! Hollyweird has always been anti-Catholic…the flicks like Going my way with an old priest having to be educated in a new way by father bing…this was the first flick that had priests being called by their first name…Crosby not withstanding…when a Catholic has his church attacked he is told to loosen up…its only a flick…these are the same clowns who vomitted their hatred and fear at Mels Passion…riots were going to happen etc…the tolerant ones are cute tho…Nino

:yup:

Not only that Sixtus, but the other group you keep alluding to is far from fictional. Freemasonry is real.

Apparently your fear their will be those that may buy into Brown’s account (which would be persons who clearly are not interested in facts) is more important a priority than adhering to the Church on Freemasonry.

Take the log out of your own eye, get in line with the Church and stop worrying about the endless supply of persons out there who buy what the snakeoil salesman is selling them.

There are plenty of apologetics available to “fight” this brand(Dan Brown, Jesus Seminar, ect.) of fiction.

Where are the ones for getting Catholics to follow the Church’s guidance?

Using your logic we might as well make a movie calling Benedict XVI anti-semitic.

I find it very sad that you can be so flippant about the situation.

That is the very essence of the problem. It is fiction masqueraded as FACT.

Simpler folk with little or no knowledge are taken in by the evil deception.

When a distressed Christian emails me in desperation and fear of losing their faith, I do not think the deception is in the slightest bit amusing or to be dismissed as ‘light entertainment!’

Angels and Demons is a willful and deliberate conspiracy to defame the authority of Christ in the successor of St Peter. It is a slur not only against his Holiness but against every Pope including the Blessed Apostle.

That is to be taken very seriously. It is evil heaped upon evil.

It is very rare for me to get angry, but attacks of this nature against Christ, His Holy Church, His Authority invested in our sovereign Pontiff, his Saintly predecessor, the Blessed Apostle himself, not to mention that most holy and eminent of women St Mary Magdalene, is outragious, what I feel right now, anger is an understatement!

Yes, I expect my fellow Orthodox Catholics to stand shoulder to shoulder with his Holiness, not Dan Brown!!!

I do not advocate freemasonry and resent the slur that suggests I do. A good ole Dan Brown tactic if I may say so 😛

In a previous post [where I called for tolerance of those at least trying to find their way] I told you that I had an invite to join freemasonry and the fact I had turned it down. I resent the implication that I advocate freemasonry, willful and deliberate choice not to follow Church teachings

THis is just a distraction and part of the same plot to undermine the Faith by diverting attention away from the seriousness of the situation. It seems appropriate to folly while Rome burns!

In previou sposts to which you allude, I have asked for tolerance to groups who are at least trying to follow the teachings of Christ, whether they are our Seperated Brethren, Catholic and Protestant freemasons, or Christians who have lost their way.

I am calling for tolerance of those still finding their way, while others are calling for witch hunts, burnings and excommunications. I think Freud’s interpretation of ‘logs in eyes’ is called ‘transference!’

Diversion tactics for Dan Brown appears conspiracy against our most Holy and Precious Church and Faith.

My dear hellisreal

I have noticed that you regularly follow all my postings on different threads and within less than one minute, oppose them.

We are all entitled to our points of view, but it is astonishing the accuracy with which you manage to be posting in exactly the SAME thread as I, opposing me exactly one minute after I have posted. Once is concidence, twice is maybe coincidence, three four remotely possible but twelve in rapid succession I would say is not coincidence but deliberate. This occuring either late last January or February when I posted on 12 different threads and you were tracking and opposing my every contribution. I even moved to a completely different thread to see if you followed me…and you did!

You do not have to agree with me of my points of view, But I think that I am entitled to post without being tracked in that way. Such behaviour is harassment. I politely and couteously ask you to refrain.

I have posted on 3 of your threads.

In one I agreed with you.

In this one and the Freemasonry I did not.

Your false accusations are getting a bit dramatic and rich.
My dear hellisreal

I have noticed that you regularly follow all my postings on different threads and oppose them. That is your rightful perogative. We are all entitled to our points of view, but it is astonishing the accuracy with which you manage to be posting in exactly the SAME thread as I at exactly the SAME time. Once is concidence, twice is maybe coincidence, three four and five remotely possible but twelve in rapid succession I would say is not coincidence but deliberate.

In fact you have admitted that you are playing games with me.

You do not have to agree with me of my points of view, But I think that I am entitled to post without being hounded in that way. Such behaviour is harassment. I politely and couteously ask you to refrain.

So is all fiction, and especially the historical. Brother Cadfael isn’t real either, but he makes for a good read (and a wonderful BBC series), if one suspends disbelief – as fiction requires. Fiction is no good if it keeps reminding you it’s a lie; instead, it becomes an exercise in drudgery.

Kafka would not be so acclaimed if, on every page of The Metamorphosis he appended a footnote saying ‘you know, people really don’t turn into giant bugs’; he would be stultifying.

I do not see any of Brown’s books in the ‘non-fiction’ sections of libraries and bookstores.

Then reach down from that great height you’re at and enlighten them. You may wish to tell them that Orson Welles’ ‘War of the Worlds’ broadcast was fictional too, in case they’re still worried about the Martian invasion.

I think people are generally at least a little smarter than you’re giving them credit for. If they believe all that, it’s because they want to and wilfully ignore the big fat ‘fiction’ label, not because they are brainless sheep being intentionally led astray by a wolf writing books.

I hear the sound of yet another Dan Brown apologist.

I am not aware that Orson Wells ever attempted to undermine Christ’s Holy Church.

I can honestly say that I have never heard of a fellow Christian appealing for help at risk of losing faith over something from Orson Wells.

Neither am I aware of any other fiction writer who has had a cult following ideologically opposed to and determined to teach the new revelation in diametric opposition to Orthodox Christianity.

I am aware of cults and ideologies who are opposed who are trying to find their way but have not got there quite yet. But that is not the same.

But then to be fair, I have never heard of any other fiction writer AND HIS cult followers referring to Our Lord Jesus Christ as 'the VILLAGE IDIOT!

I’m not apologizing for him, I can’t stand the guy’s writing. It’s trash. I am, if you please, an apologist for the fictional.

No, but he did manage to start a nationwide panic with a radio transmitter and a pan of bacon. And nowadays we sit back and laugh over that broadcast – you think it won’t be the same?

Welles’ broadcast ended with a reminder that it was a Halloween prank. Similarly, The da Vinci Code begins with the standard disclaimer: ‘All of the characters and events in this book are fictitious, and any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental’. You can see it for yourself here: Amazon snapshot, go one page in.
But then to be fair, I have never heard of any other fiction writer AND HIS cult followers referring to Our Lord Jesus Christ as 'the VILLAGE IDIOT!
If it offends you, don’t read it. That it offends you does not make a Satanic conspiracy.

So if someone wrote a fiction book about one of your loved ones, telling all sort of disgusting lies about them, would you be angry? I mean, why should you be angry, it’s only fiction right?
The Davinci Code is something a lot of people took as fact, my dad being one of them unfortunately. And don’t say they won’t because people know it’s fiction. Remember Pope Pius XII (I think it’s the XII)? He had a good name during and right after WWII. Then some person wrote a FICTIONAL book about him being in with Hitler, and his name has never been the same sinse. He’s now known by many people, including scholarary people as Hitler’s Pope. If we remain quiet and allow people to write books that spread lies about Christianity, then no wonder you see less people coming to church. It’s a joke to them, or as Dan Brown would have you believe, a lie.

As I told bones above, you are confusing fiction with libel. They are not the same thing.

Thats a poor way to excuse someone slandering your Lord and Savior. Sorry, but it is.
Your Lord and Savior has not seen fit to strike me (or, to my knowledge, anyone else) with lightning for saying repeatedly that he was only a man – a great one, and a great teacher, but only a man – and I would like to think a deity can take care of such things himself. You are his follower, not his thunderbolt-carrier.

Where in the world did you read into Mirdaths comments as excusing anyone for anything?

I read it as discounting ignorance.

But, if we are going to try to find something sinister in Mirdaths comments–

We could- as Dan Brownish as it would be.

I think some folks here think they are sad they cant trust the Jesus they claim to obey and love to handle this in his own way, and need to like Sarah- resort to “helping God out”

😦

Just my Catholic opinion on this nonsense.🤷
