LDS or catholicism

For the past 6 years I have been practicing catholicism but have not been baptized due to my mom being LDS. I can now get baptized but have been researching the LDS church. Please give me your thoughts and prayers. Thank you all answers.

My general rule of thumb is that if the founder of your religion taught penance and love, lived humbly, and accepted torture unto death, it’s more likely to be the true religion than if he was a fraud artist and wound up with dozens of young wives, including receiving a special “divine revelation” to tell his actual first wife telling her that she was doomed to hell if she kept complaining about how many women her husband was bedding. Just a thought. I knew plenty of awesome LDS people when I lived in Utah, but come on now, really.

The true faith must trace in a direct, unbroken line straight back to Jesus. Jesus made Apostles and sent them forth to teach. His true Church is Apostolic, is universal, is holy and is one in all the world. Its teaching does not change.

The LDS, for all their good, cannot have the fulness of truth, as they trace only back to Joseph Smith. His faith traces back through protestantism, which traces back to the Catholic Church. The LDS claim to be a restoration church, but cannot give a date, time or place of the alleged total apostasy. They are well-meaning, but mislead.

There is One God in three Divine Persons. Period.

all the Catholics will tell you to be Catholic and all the LDS will tell you to be LDS. I recommend - do your research… there are a lot of inconsistencies in the LDS church, for example how there’s 'no archealogical or historical evidence for (literally) anything, a lot of beliefs that are incompatible with basic Christian doctrines but no one will tell you this without your own research. I’ve never been LDS but here’s what I heard from someone who was there… with Catholicism, anyone can find out anything about it… all the information is available to all. With LDS, it’s like an initiation process and you don’t find out everything right away. Some of the more questionable beliefs are only told later on. I don’t know if this is true, maybe it isn’t, but that’s what I’ve heard. So I would really research all the claims and also look into the early Church. The LDS say that the Church became “corrupted” after the Apostles… yet the Catholic Church says that the Holy Spirit has always been guarding the Church, and the Apostles handed down their knowledge to their successors so we can easily see true Christianity in the early Church. I dont know about you but to me the Catholic explanation seems more probable, considering what Jesus said. Also, the LDS have changed many things like how they do Communion - it’s not bread and wine like in the Last Supper.

Here’s something else… I took a class on Church history, and there was a quote by Iraneaus, who lived around 2nd century. He wrote a letter to heretics explaining why the Church is right and they are not. He said, heretics also use Scripture to support their points (of course, by twisting Scripture). But he knows he’s in the right Church because it has Apostolic Succession from the Apostles 🙂 it has the Bishops. That was his argument, in 2nd century. They saw this as important and so does the Catholic Church today. Now consider this… the Catholic Church still has this Apostolic Succession… Protestants do not, and the LDS do not.

Hi catholic boy our friend po18guy has explained really well.LDS are lovely people just mislead.
As i suggested before it is good for you to find out for yourself.Read from the bible about how Jesus eastablished His church here on earth.The Apostolic succession right through to Pope Benedict today.Please let us know when you are to be baptised it is so exciting for you.You will thoroughly enjoy RCIA where you will learn such a lot and so many of your questions will be answered.God bless
 
Mormonism arose in the early 1800’s as a variant of “experimental Christianity,” trying to re-create early Christianity. The assumption was that early Christianity borrowed its philosophical foundation from the Greeks, thus apostatizing. Another assumption for the pre-LDS was that the Catholic Church’s decisions on what would go into the Bible were flawed, because of apostasy. This led to their writing the Book of Mormon, using multiple sources that were available in that time.

What is peculiar is that Mormonism, in 180 years, has made all the mistakes that Catholicism has made in 2000 years, and more. Furthermore, Mormonism is a very inaccurate mirror of Catholicism. Its imitation of Catholicism is based on the fictional 1830 anti-Catholic perception of our religion.

Catholicism is old and wise. Mormonism is young and foolish.

Although today’s Mormons deny it, the foundation of their church is a virulent form of anti-Catholicism and racism. And we can see it in some members, even today. They are still angry about the death of Joseph Smith.

If you will read the Catechism of the Catholic Church, all of humanity is one race. Genetic differences are no reason for believing that one person is superior to another.

Mormonism has no consistent theology, because “the scriptures and prophets” are internally inconsistent.

All said, Mormon wards, in general, have an excellent social structure, they prohibit drug and alcohol abuse, are against abortion in most cases, and advocate sexual morality.

Go to a Catholic Mass tonight or tomorrow. Find a Mormon service tonight or tomorrow, if you can find one. Which one is better, and which one honors our Savior better?

We can’t tell you which one to go with. We honestly can’t. Its a decision for you to make and you alone. But this is an amazing video on the Holy Bible and the Book of Mormon.

Minding I knew very little about Mormon. The only familiarity I had with it was the fact they had the Book of Mormon and I used to see the Christmas commercials they ran on t.v.
After watching this I learned A LOT!

All I can say is that the things in the Bible can be proven to be true. Nothing in the Book of Mormon has been ever proven to be true at all.

I have to say that there are many good hearted Mormons and bless their soul. What strikes me funny about the LDS beliefs, and we can agree to disagree with many, but the belief that when you die, your heaven is that you become the god of your own planet as what they believe to be the case with their god Elohim :confused:.

And anyone can correct me if I am wrong on this.

If you’re going to be baptized based on the opinions of others, then you might as well take a poll from all the friends you know, who know you and know when you are the happiest as you interact with them, and see what the majority say and then do that.

But if you want to be baptized based on your own innermost desires to please God and do His will, then prayer and sincere study of the Bible, with sincere commitment intended as you seek wisdom from Him through the Holy Ghost, will be what the New Testament suggests a person in your position should do.👍

Remember that baptism is making a covenant with the Lord, Jesus Christ, Who loves you as does our Father in Heaven. When you receive Their approbation, then all the opinions in the world, even by well-meaning people, don’t matter very much at all.

Best wishes to you, and Merry Christmas with joy, love and peace in your heart through the Savior’s atoning grace. (Whatever you do, tell your mom you love her and appreciate her.🙂 )

It would be more correct to write that the LDS believe that Christ has the power and the healing grace to grant that “he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; …even as I received of my Father. And I will give him the morning star. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit sayeth…”…“To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.” (Revelation 2:26,27; 3:21)

So the LDS believe in a literal joint throne as was taught by the apostle John through the visions he had. It is only through Christ that such an incredible sanctifying grace is granted, and it is truly amazing to think about. To be able to see as They see, and love as They love, is to inherit “all things” (Revelation 21:7)

Look for the Church that is built by Christ for sinners. Not a church that is built on the fall of another, rather a church built on the fall of mankind. This is where you will find Jesus.

Here is a great example:
"Come in, there is room for you here"
This short story is told about Franz Josef, one of the Habsburg Emperors. He was returning from a military campaign and sought refuge in a monastery. He sent a soldier before him to announce his coming. “The Emperor Franz Josef seeks lodging in your monastery. Prepare a place for him.”
The guest master replied, “There is no room for him.”
When the soldier reported this to the emperor, he was furious. He approached the monastery surrounded by his military escort. He called out the guest master and said, “Do you not know who I am? Ruler of the Austro-Hugarian Empire. I demand to spend the night here.”
The guest master looked at the emperor in his splendid clothes. Around him were the soldiers with their weapons, but the monk held his ground. “There is no room for you here,” he told him.
One of the soldiers drew his sword and said, “Sir, shall I kill this insolent monk?”
The emperor paused. Then he said to the monk, “No, I did not tell you who I really am. I am Franz Josef, a sinner.”
The monk said, “Come in, there is room for you here.”

Make sure you get to the Christmas Mass as this is Christ-Mass…Christmas!

From what I understand from learning about the Mormon faith you are right. They believe that men may become gods , and will go on to heaven living a polygamist’s life ,and women will become goddesses as long as they follow and do exactly what their husband(s) tell them. No one, I mean no one, could ever become a god.

A far cry from what true Christianity is. It breaks the very first commadment of the Ten Commandments. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Actually from what I understand is that the Fundamentalist is the ‘true’ form of Mormonism according to John Smith. Mainline is more ‘watered’ down as they do not practice polygamy
