**Leader of Scottish Tories claims ‘burly blokes’ are blocking voters at polling station as police warn of ‘threatening behaviour’ by Nationalists
Police are investigating allegations ‘burly blokes’ believed to be backing the SNP have turned away voters from a Scottish polling station because they were not Nationalists.
Leader of the Scottish Tories Ruth Davidson has said two members of the public complained of intimidation while trying to vote in Annan in Dumfries and Galloway.
It came as police also issued a Scotland-wide warning amid fears of ‘threatening behaviour’ from firebrand SNP supporters.**
Mrs Davidson tweeted: ‘Disturbing reports of people being turned away from an Annan polling station by burly blokes if they say they don’t support a certain party’.
A Conservative source told MailOnline she is believed to be talking about Nicola Sturgeon’s SNP party - but said Davidson did not witness the incident.
A spokesman for the Scottish Conservatives said: 'Two members of the public complained to us regarding a situation at Newington Sports and Leisure Polling Station in Annan.
‘We have passed on their complaint to the electoral registration officer at the council and have spoken to Police Scotland. We take all such reports seriously and always pass on the relevant information.’
MailOnline has contacted the SNP to comment while Police Scotland and Dumfries & Galloway Council said they are currently looking into the allegations.
**It came as nationalists who believe that last year’s referendum was rigged in favour of the ‘No’ campaign urged people to photograph their votes and covertly watch election officials.
The campaign, called Operation Scallop, has been widely shared across Facebook and Twitter because some SNP members fear their votes will be torn up, changed or not counted.
Organisers also say that supporters should vote in the last hour - between 9pm and 10pm - and then ‘hang about outside’ and ‘take photos of anything suspicious’ as the papers are loaded into vans.**
They should then use their own transport to trail ballot boxes when they leave polling stations and follow them to the count and watch them being unloaded, it says.
