**LEAST favorite of all; that Mary, didja know…song.
Like nails on a blackboard.

Wow. That’s interesting that it sounds like nails on a blackboard to you… 😦 .

That * Mary, didja know*…song is my very favorite!! I pray with it… and every time it hits home really deeply what the incredible mystery of God becoming man (Jesus) is!!!

Each and every time I hear that song. at some point or other during the song I cry… deeply… in total amazement… and sometimes so deeply that tears don’t even come…

The song helps me to realize that there are times that I am not practicing humility, myself…

I’m ashamed :o to admit it but I don’t like “Joy to the World.” I think the melody is awful. The words are wonderful, but I wish it sounded different. “Santa Baby” by Madonna is icky too.

Yeah… Madonna singing “Santa Baby” has got to be one of the worst!

Though… for some reason when I read the title “Joy to the World” in your post, what came to my mind was this…

***Joy to the world
All the boys and girls, now
Joy to the fishes in the big, blue sea
Joy to you and me

Jeremiah was a bull frog
Was a good friend of mine…

Paul McCartney. Now THERE’S an opportunity to make reparation for your sins.

I never understood a single word he said
But I helped him drink his wine

Gathering at my parents’ home, my family actually sings Christmas carols together before the gifts are opened and for twenty years now when we get to Joy to the World we have sung these very lines from the Three Dog Night song. So in a way, this has become a traditional part of Christmas for us. My kids have never known Christmas without it.

Hey, I love the dogs barking “Jingle Bells”!

My least favorite is not on the list, “We Wish You A Merry Christmas.” That line, “Now bring us some figgy pudding.” When I was a lad, I thought it was “Now bring us some finger pudding.” The imagery has made me ill at the mere hint of that song.
I am a dork and I love silly songs at Christmas. I like when the recording of the muppets and John Denver singing “We Wish You A Merry Christmas.”
Gonzo: Now bring us some figgy pudding, now
Miss Piggy: Piggy Pudding?
Gonzo: No, FIGGY pudding, its made with figs
Miss Piggy: Oh
Gonzo: and Bacon
Miss Piggy: What?

Makes me laugh every time!

We did a version of this as Joy to the world one year!

Jesus was a baby
born on Christmas day
Mary had him in a manger because there was no room
in the inn that day, in the inn that day…

My friend Jeremy made up the entire thing and we performed it with our family band. It was really fun!

I actually love that song…I need to buy the Clay Aiken Christmas CD. He has it recorded on it and my 8 year old has a big crush on him!

Also I LOVE the Dave Matthews Band song “the Christmas song”

“Jingle Bell Rock” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” - Yuk!

Oddly enough, I don’t really like “Jingle Bell Rock” but I’ll end up humming it ALL YEAR ROUND!!! Maybe that’s why I don’t like it

Me too 😃 I love that part.

I should have probably waited to vote until after the all Christmas station had been playing for a while…as it is I vaguely remembered most of these songs. I do remember disliking Santa Baby though… 😦

I voted all those songs as my least favorite. 😛
I don’t like the Christmas songs that are re-done by today’s pop stars like Destiny’s Child, Britney Spears, Nsync, etc… they just take too long on some notes and sometimes add a “hip hop twist” to it.

When I presented this poll last year, I had a ‘run-off’ to determine the top (er. bottom) 7 worst secular Christmas songs. I have noticed a trend that some songs today, or at least in the last 5 years, don’t even have a Christmas theme to them. (Great point about Frost the Snowman! and what about Dolly Parton’s Hard Candy Christmas, which has NOTHING to do with Christmas, and it’s played at this time of year?)
There’s just the title line of the song and radio programmers think it’s a christmas song!

I was mildly touched by the Christmas shoes song the first time I heard it, but if I hear it again I will go berserk, our Christian radio station plays it at least once an hour during December

I haven’t heard most of them, but I rather enjoy the Grandma one! Not as a Christmas song, but as a silly song. As far as I know, there is no longer any Christmas music played on the radio. It’s rather sad. When I was a kid, you could turn the stereo on during Christmas eve and hear lovely singing with no interruptions! On public tv I suppose you can tune in a concert (I don’t get cable).

Thanks. It’s the first hit from the B-52s, my fave rock band of all time.
I too love the b-52’s. Just bought the best of album and now I can dance with my kids to Rocklobster in the living room. Do they have any Christmas songs?

Whatever happed to the disco Christmas music I heard in the 70’s?  😛

I had completely forgotten about the Boney M Christmas album.

Now there is some bad Christmas music.
