FYI, this thread is over 3 years old.

I guess this goes to shows that good urban legends never die, they just go to sleep for a little. šŸ˜‰

Hey Joe, did you know if you play ā€œStairway to Heavenā€ backwards you can hear a message to Satan! It’s true, it’s true!

Oh yeah, and the same thing with Ozzy and Judas Priest, although, I suppose kind of oddly never Iron Maiden. \m/

These artists in question have mostly done nothing in their public or private statements to dispel any rumors, gossip or widely held notions of their alleged satanic or demon worship practices/beliefs.
Saints and religious never gave a hoot about gossip about them either. Your point?
So who would have knowledge of what the pope or mel gibson or jim carey’s religious practices are? People close to them or other witnesses of course. It’s a classic way that allegations are born by witnesses. I’m not saying that all allegations are true but some are true or have some basis of truth in them.
Such basis tend to be farther and more harmless than exaggerated rumor.
Yes true. And maybe the band members of said bands do laugh their heads off. That does not mean that the desire to generate controversy is the only driver for the gossip or for them to do and say the things that they do. Did it ever occur to you that MAYBE some people in the entertainment business actually do worship Satan or other false gods and that some of these people incorporate into their art (music, videos etc) as in their lives certain elements and themes associated with these anti-christian beliefs?
  1. Looking for the devil under every rock doesn’t mean he’s there.
  2. It’s already proven that whatever message an artists puts in their music isn’t always relayed to the listener. I listen to Japanese rock songs (oooh fear the veeery pagan country) and you don’t see me practicing Shinto.

Years ago, me and a friend of mine spent the weekend listening to records backwards just hoping to find hidden messages. We actually found a satanic message on a recording of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer on a kids Christmas album. For the record, I don’t believe that Gene Autry studio band knock-off was a satanist.

Yeah, when I played Iron Maiden’s ā€œNumber of the Beastā€ backwards, it just sounded like ā€œStairway to Heavenā€. šŸ˜›

First, we’d have to reach an agreement over the actual meaning of ā€œsatanicā€. Some would say Lavey was not satanic because he supposedly didn’t believe in an actual Satan, so if Lavey doesn’t qualify as ā€œsatanicā€ then I guess no-one on this earth does. Sinister groups with songs filled with hatred of God, horrible blasphemies, accompanied by graphic material which mocks/attacks/ridicules Jesus/the crucifixion are essentially satanic IMO. I’d place Deicide in there, Cradle of Filth, Six Feet Under,Scandinavian bands that are openly satanic, Marilyn Manson. These people worship what is ugly, putrid, sordid, rotten, unholy, they love the things of Satan and have disdain for the things of God, and that’s a pretty good definition of satanism. Perhaps some of them don’t mean it, in truth it doesn’t make much difference: Marilyn Manson still spews his hellish poison to his fans, so do the other bands. ā€œCannibal Corpseā€? Are these people insane?

As for the thread, Led Zeppelin. On a satanic scale next to these degenerates, they don’t score too high. Sure, lots of their songs are not about activities condoned by Church Teachings/God, lots of sexual innuendo/references etc.I’ve often wondered if Page’s long guitar solo in Dazed and Confused (with the violin bow) hadn’t at his core a sort of dark mysticism, and the way he pointed the bow in every direction could’ve been understood as some sort of ceremony/ritual. The accompanying footage (in the movie) was shot near Boleskine (if I’m not mistaken). He had a keen interest in magic and in Aleister Crowley to the point of buying the man’s ā€œcottage on the shore of a dark, Scottish lakeā€ (incidentally, i think Sting at some point did state his affection for Crowley’s philosophy). Page was also involved as a musician in ā€œLucifer Risingā€ , mediocre movie by mediocre occultist/satanist/ā€œfilmmakerā€ Kenneth Anger. I’m also aware of what Plant said about how the lyrics to Stairway had come to him. Does that make them satanic? Page was certainly a dabbler in the occult/magic and possibly a true satanist at some point in time, but the real question is:how much of his beliefs and his twisted mind transpire on the material he produced with Led Zeppelin? Again, I’ll choose Led Zeppelin over any of the sordid musicians I referred to.

I know this is such an old topic, but I think many of you guys have missed the point. Led Zeppelin does not have to be satanic in order to be bad for us as catholics. The ā€œHouses of The Holyā€ album cover shows two naked children, which is a huge scandal - one should not be surprised knowing this album was banned in several countries in the seventies. The ā€œLed Zeppelin IVā€ album cover shows a tarot card character called ā€œThe Hermitā€, which is superstitious stuff. In ā€œThe Song Remains the Sameā€ they say ā€œsing out hare hareā€, which woud be pure idolatry. Not to mention Jimmy Page was clearly into the occult. Do you guys really think none of his ideas have been inserted in their songs? ā€œFor from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaksā€ (Matthew 12,34). Some people may say it does not influence them or they just stick with what’s ā€œgoodā€, but in my view this kind of music is at least an obstacle to their growth in holiness. I cannot see why catholic people would spread those types of bands, albums and songs knowing they feature various immoral and pagan elements that cause many people to sin.
