I suggest that anyone who doesnt think that Led Zepplin was a tool of the Devil simply back mask, That is play “Stairway to Heaven” in reverse. It says loud and clear “Hail Satan” over and over again… There is NO way that this could of been done than by demonic influence.

FORWARD
If there’s a bustle in your hedge row don’t be alarmed now
It’s just a spring clean for the may queen
Yes there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There’s still time to change the road you’re on.
REVERSED/BACKMASKED
Glory, oh here’s to my sweet satan
The one little child would make me sad whose power is satan
He’ll give those in him 666
And all the evil fools they know he made us suffer sad satan

ENOUGH SAID…
Yeah and if you light a bible on fire and kill a baby on top of it it looks like it’s a satanic sacrifice. So obviously the bible is of satan.

…you’re not supposed to reverse a record so what does it matter what happens when you do!

The more I watch these “dialogues” about how rock music (or this or that artist) is satanic and evil, the more I start to notice a sort of fundamentalist approach to music. Perhaps it is a symptom of America’s puritanical roots. 🤷

If rock music was really that evil and was fundamentally and inherently satanic, don’t you think the Church would have issued some type of statement to that effect? Rock music is extremely popular. If it ipso facto was leading people to hell, surely the responsible thing for the Church to do would be to say something.

It seems the best that people can do is to appeal to this or that book by some individual priest. But, of course, that is far, far different than a magisterial document.

Yes, music effects people. Yes, it could even have bad effects on some people. But it’s not going to somehow secretly turn a good Catholic into a devil worshiper with such subtlety that he doesn’t even recognize it.

This is where prudence comes in. We don’t have to ban certain music for all people for all times. Just be prudent about what you listen to. As evident from this thread, the “The-music-you-like-is-evil” approach never wins anyone over. All it does is annoy.

The priest at the Catholic center at my college was once approached by the school newspaper to offer his opinion on a piece of music they played for him. It was some death metal band singing about necrophilia () in very explicit language. I’m sure that the reporter was just hoping he would give them some standard quote about the “evils” of rock music. Instead, he simply said (to paraphrase), “I’m not that worried about such things. In the end, only what is true, good, and beautiful will last.” I thought that was a great response.

O.K. Michael you have just given me the biggest laugh of all on CAF yet with the link to Dschinghis Khan Moskau. The link didn’t work but I googled and found them on Youtube. Now that is Pure Gold 👍 At first I was not sure of the spelling but now I get it. A German Boney-M type band with a Slavic sounding song and its lead singer doing steps from the Hopak. Triple AAA!! LOL:D

This should help anyone else who tries that link:

) No satanism, just a bit of tuneful repetition - and an energetic & colourful video 🙂

Brooklyn Boy you sometimes fail to think, dont you? If you knew anything about demonic influence and it’s attempt you would of realized that often demonic influence is somehow camoflauged as is the back masking. Also demonic is most times portrayed in the opposite of goodness, light and truth. I.e. 3am being the heightened hour of manifestation because Jesus was crucified at 3pm. While I agree that music is to be played in the foward motion then why would that be present in reverse? Stair way to heaven in forward, hail Satan in reverse. Your analogy of the sacrifice of a Baby on a Bible is weak at best. Demonic influence, wether it be there for commercial reasons or not, it is and was influenced to be there. Why? cant rock music stand alone? The effects of evil are real. The greatest trick the devil ever perpertrated against humanity is to convince them that he does not exist. I would suggest that you begin to reflect. Because if God is good and can not commit an evil act then all evil is from the devil who convinces man that there actions are with out consequence. Your every action has consequence wether you like it or not. Pray for enlightenment, and be cautious, because evil exists and is looking for a few more souls. Does listening to stairway to heaven guarantee you a trip to hell? Dont know. But why allow something that is clearly an affront to God permeate yor ears. i would choose to stay away.

Do you have anything official from the Church on rock music?

It’s hard to take seriously accusations of “fail[ing] to think” from people who cannot break down their thoughts into paragraphs!!! 😉 (Just kidding with you, but, honestly, it is quite difficult for me to follow someone’s train of thought when they take a “stream of consciousness” approach to writing. :))

I think people make too much of this “back-masking” thing. There is absolutely zero evidence that listening to a message backwards has any sort of effect on a person (subliminally or otherwise). If you have any data that would support the assertion that backwards subliminal messages influence people, I would be most interested!

If the message was put in “Stairway to Heaven” (which is a debateable point), it was simply because they thought it would be a “cool” thing to do. That may speak to their maturity and intelligence, but I don’t think it has any sinister effect on the listener. I’ve listened to that song many times over the years and it has never fostered in me a desire to do Satan any favors. He’s just as much on my “people to avoid” list as he ever was.

There has never been any official proof that there is any message, satanic or otherwise, backmasked onto Stairway. You can say that you hear it, but most people don’t, and usually one only hears it after one is told to look for it.

But if evil is the opposite of good…and playing the song backwards is the opposite of playing the song forward…and Stairway is evil backwards…wouldn’t that make it good forwards?

Either way, the backmasking controversies are composed solely of people that say they hear something.
I repeat: That say they hear something.
KIKINWING, it sounds like you have just bought in to too much superstition.

Jimmy Page didn’t write the lyrics!
Can somebody please just take a second and read this!?
For some reason it is just not sticking with anybody…
Did he need to write them, though? His influence on the band is obvious. A great deal of imagery from his studies on Crowley showed up in the artwork, and I doubt he drew it.

Another thing worth noting: stop looking for things that may not be there (backmasking) and start looking at what is there. There is an abundant amount of information that people refuse to see. Backmasking is an easy target for skeptics to point out, and their argument always consists of “That’s ridiculous, it couldn’t be true!” I look at it like this: is backmasking real? Yes, and it has purposely been used for less sinister things. Could Led Zepplin have incorporated that into their work? Absolutely. Would I put it above them considering Paige’s background? No.

As for the church not condemning rock music, why would they? Rock is a music genre. They haven’t condemned metal as far as I know, and often times it’s far more vulgar, but it’s up to the band to make it so. The Church hasn’t gone out of its way in recent times to specifically ban entertainment. That doesn’t mean any given piece of entertainment is kosher with the faith, though. It’s more than merely using your own discretion: you make educated choices given what the catechism and the Bible say.
But if evil is the opposite of good…and playing the song backwards is the opposite of playing the song forward…and Stairway is evil backwards…wouldn’t that make it good forwards?
You’re just being silly now.

You’re just being silly now.
Is it really that much sillier than claiming there’s a black mass if you play Stairway backwards?

And what he did on his free time might affect his soul, but it doesn’t affect mine. There are plenty of Christian musicians whose music has nothing to do with Christianity.

And that’s exactly the point. We can’t condemn with such broad brush strokes. But we should always be discerning.

I don’t know, though. I find the accusation that Led Zeppelin is “satanic” somewhat humorous. They seem pretty tame to me compared to some of the other stuff out there. Try listening to something like Dimmu Borgir. Now that stuff is scary! (FYI, I do not listen to Dimmu Borgir, though I did see them in concert once…don’t ask. :o)

Certainly, if the lyrics seem problematic and one fears they might be “seduced” by them, they should avoid that song. Just as someone might avoid reading Nietzsche because they are afraid of being seduced by his philosophy (which I would say is a far greater danger than some rock band). But it doesn’t mean that everyone everywhere must avoid it at all costs.

I know pride comes before a fall and everything, but I think sometimes we give ourselves too little credit. I know the Catechism and the Bible well enough that some band’s lyrics are not going to make me question my faith. I simply role my eyes at their (unfortunately common) false world view. But, they sure can compose a tune. 😉

You know, that’s an interesting point. If music was so influential that it would easily override all of our capacity to reason, as well as our free will, you would think that anyone who listened to a Christian musician (regardless of whether or not their music was explicitly Christian) would always be converted. Obviously that is not the case.

Reading a satanic bible doesn’t convert you into a satanist on the spot, either. Your point?

Again with the backmasking. I made it perfectly clear in my last post: backmasking is used in music. Linkin Park uses it regularly to slip little easter eggs into their music for fans. It’s certainly not as ludicrous as you say, and I’m not denying the possibility. But disregard that for a second. It’s the imagery itself used on the artwork, not to mention the lyrics of a handful of songs, and Paige’s infatuation with Aleister Crowley, that are the real problem here. Not the backmasking.

People don’t even see the warning signs. I like Zep as much as the next guy, but I’m not so quick to jump to their defense when I see something that is so clearly wrong. You simply can’t get away with printing “do what thou wilt” on your vinyl records and using imagery from Crowley’s Tarot cards on your albums. 99% of people don’t know what they’re looking at, or worse, deny that it means anything altogether. That’s devious on the band’s part. It’s absolute deception.

After that, take a long, hard look at the lyrics of “Houses of the Holy” and “Stairway to Heaven.” Watch some live stage performances with Paige, and how the motions mirror those used in satanic rituals, no doubt from his personal dabbling with black magic. The info is out there.

Well, at least you like the music. Look I do not think the concern is this devil stuff, look how hard you are trying to find it. Motley Crue has " Shout at the Devil" would that not be a bigger threat. People talk about Led Zep because of their popularity and influence. There are certaintly other bands who do that devil stuff in their work more than Zep does.

Bottom line: When it comes to rock music, there is Led Zeppelin and everyone else is just a footnote. Ouhhh yeah…Ouhhh Yeahh!..its been a long time, been long time…

The point is that no matter what the source, music will always be something up for various artistic interpretation. It’s been the same with all other arts such as painting, sculpture, and literature. So as long as that phenomenon exists, claims that a song is Satanic will always be generally disputed. Unless a song explicitly sings things along the lines of “Hail Satan”, I can’t see why we have to paint everything with a broad brush.

I remember my friend, when we were in the sixth grade, was “worried” about me liking Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, and heavy metal in general so he gave me this tape. This tape had some Baptist yahoo minister going cookoo about how Satan was in league with all these different bands doing backwards-masking and corrupting the youth through rock. It sounded interesting until you heard some of the bands he implicated as “Satanic” that included:

Electric Light Orchestra (!!)
Blue Oyster Cult
The Eagles

It’s hard to imagine Jeff Lynn who sang “Mr. Blue Sky” and “Don’t Bring me Down” (talk about the irony!) as being a Satan worshipper! And the Eagles? Don Henley and Joe Walsh playing with Ouija Boards and donning goats blood?

A bit hard to swallow! I’m still a Zeppelin fan! lol

Back at the height of this craze, the pseudo-band Spinal Tap appeared on a TV segment and got grilled about their Satanic influences. The funniest part:
SPINAL TAP: “We’re not trying to meddle with any fan’s personal relationship with Satan … this is, um, extremely individual.”
INTERVIEWER: What about “Christmas with the Devil”?
“The sugar plums are rancid
And the stockings are in flames … Silent Night, Violent N–”?
MANAGER: This interview’s over!

Roll over, Tenacious D, and tell Deathklok the news…

I don’t need to try hard to find it. It’s right in front of me, in plain language and symbolism.

I have to agree. We can’t bury our heads in the sand and pretend that there is not infernal influence at work.

I want those defending Led Zep to answer this insightful response and respond charitably and rationally point by point to this case.

I readily admit that the Pixies, Smiths, Radiohead, Boo Radleys (bands I like) have songs which are dubious and sometimes I have to judge when/if it is prudent to skip over songs and sacrifice the enjoyment gained from listening to them out of respect for the Crucified Christ
