You made mention of being guided by the Holy Spirit at times… and I believe it was in relation to when reading the Bible.

The question is: If you believe that you are being guided by the Holy Spirit, how do you know with certainty that it is specifically the Holy Spirit, and not another spirit…even one of a nefarious nature?

Its a serious question.
They just know in their heart. They feel good about it. For solid sola scriptura types, it doesn’t contradict scripture. They share it with their friends and their friends say it’s all good.

Also, the sola scriptura types are their own “final arbiter of truth.” Truth is relative from one person to another. They say the Bible is the “final court of arbitration” but there is no way they can know it all, so really they are. I find that to be so limiting, compared with 2,000 years of history and Tradition.

Been there, done that.

Do you have your head in the sand?

If one Catechism means unity, then one canon of scripture does as well.
One unity of faith. The deposit of faith is Scripture and Tradition. The Three Pillars of the Catholic faith are Scripture, Tradition, and Magisterium. You have been drinking.

🤷 That’s your church’s self-proclamation. You do have your head in the sand.

You do realize that these 3 things do not all agree. Correct?

How is that? 🤷

The Magisterium is the final arbiter of divinely revealed truth through the mediums of Scripture and Tradition. Spare us your typical vague generalizations and get to the point. 🤓

Now guys, you know that our (friendly) non-C’s are going to tell us that: 1. The Marian doctrines at least are ‘not Scriptural’.
2. And that since we cannot give a list (or one which they will ‘accept’) of what is in Sacred Tradition, they can’t accept our ‘say-so’ that it ever existed’.
3. And that the Magesterium, depending on whatever little snippet they can pull from an antiCatholic web or other source, did “X” in year mumble, and then (they say) did ‘not X’ in year mumble-mumble, so obviously the Magesterium is contradictory etc.

Same old, same old. If only they could ‘open their eyes’ and remember as Scripture tells us that those who seek to ‘test God’ will not find Him, and that ‘testing God’ is exactly what they are doing with their refusal to ‘listen.’. . .

How is that? 🤷

How do you know that?

In fact, how do you know that there is a thing called “magisterium?” :hmmm:

Compare church teaching (Magisterium) such as Tresuary of Merit, Marian doctrines and mandated celibacy for bishops with the Scriptures. The 2 sources are not in harmony and in some cases disagree with each other…:sad_yes:

So says you.

Prove it, don’t just state it.

Provide a single doctrine the Church that you can prove is contradicted by scripture.

🤷 Made to one who’s senseless.
What I mean is that you may as well be an Arian, Apollinarian, Donatist, Gnostic, Modalist, Marcionist, Monophysite, Monothelist, Montanist, Nestorian, Pelagianist, Priscillianist, Sabellianist, if not a Calvinist. :juggle:

The Magisterium infallibly declared all the founders of these heretical movements positive heretics. Case closed. 👍 👍

You’re not answering my question.

I’ll ask it again: "how do you know that there is a thing called ‘magisterium?’ " :juggle:

Didn’t the Pharisees make the same claim about themselves?

Qualfications for a bishops. He is to be married, have children and manage his children well. See I Timothy 3.
The Roman Catholic church disqualifies a married man from even being considered.

Sigh.
I knew I’d be right.
What did we hear?
Exactly what I said. Same old, same old.

And one of them from a poster who usually is far above the sort of remarks he has been making to Good Fella–that’s you, sandusky-- so I hope will ‘cool down’. Come on, you two, I know you’re better than that.

Ah, so you’re telling us all bishops **must **be married, right?

Answer yes or no, please.
