We should be just thankful for whatever food we are given and pray for those suffering due to hunger in our world

Look up white minestrone soup.

It’s made up of white beans, onions, celery, carrots and escarole.

You can season the soup by cooking it with a Parmesan rind. You don’t have to if you want the soup to be vegan.

Eat it with some Italian bread like ciabatta.

A good meal.

I like to bake a few potatoes, half them, scoop out into a bowl. Add chopped onion, flaked tuna, and shredded (cheddar) cheese. If I “go fancy” I sometimes add some sour cream, or cream cheese. Scoop it back into the potato skins and return to the oven til hot and cheese melts. Use whatever you like. Have also used cheese and chopped, cooked broccoli instead. 😋

No meat remember?

Maybe Welsh rarebit?
There is no meat in Welsh rabbit (cheese and sauce, which can be on toast).
The cheese and sauce on toast is also known as a Welsh rarebit.

See below ( Just realized Welsh rabbit and Welsh rarebit are one and the same.)

I’m already gluten free for medical reasons but have decided to also give up the gluten free substitutes… potatoes, rice, and all grains. I am not waiting though…starting tomorrow morning, committed through lent. If I need carbs I can have fruit.

I’m debating between, giving up bread I can eat a whole Wonder Bread by myself in like 4 days… its terrible… or giving up soda, I can drink a 6 pack 20oz 1-2 days… so both things will be hard sacrifices for me. The soda I’ve done before, but eventually go back to bad habits in 3-4 months after lent… too sad.

Can I ask 2 questions:

is fasting just giving up meat on Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday (not sure if that’s real, but my mom called the day before the Thursday before Good Friday, Holy Thursday) and every Friday between Ash Wednesday and Easter… or is it more then that?

also what is Stations of the Cross?

Usually, I give something up or do something extra for Lent. Last year, I did extra prayers for Lent and this year, I plan to give up dessert as a sacrifice for God. Doing this helps me better enjoy the Easter Celebration!!! 🙂

Despite promising to give these up for my NYR, I really am going to try to give up judging others and letting my anger get the best of me (especially when driving 😩). I would also like to give up social media, at least cut back on the amount of time I spend on them. Also giving up (hopefully) complaining and sweets, What I hope to gain? Become more humble and reserved, get into a steady praying pattern, do better at fasting, do more spiritual reading, etc. I also plan on taking lukewarm showers (or at least spend the last 30 seconds of my showers in cold water) as I tend to take long showers and sleeping without pillows.

Potato soup with carrots, celery, and evaporated milk instead of cream. Bean burritos. Lentils and rice seasoned with curry. Spaghetti puttanesca. Lots of yummy choices are easy to make!

That’s what our priest suggests - not your idea specifically, although it’s a good one, but adding something in addition to giving something up.

I’m considering giving up trips to the coffee shop drive-thru. Those places are just candy stores for grown-ups, anyway, and my wallet will thank me.

Lenten fasting is reducing the overall amount of food on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

“Giving up meat” is abstinence. This is generally required on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays in Lent, but may differ depending upon where you live. Check with your parish, diocese or bishops conference.
