if you dig into all of that here are a couple of sites that do a good job of consolidating all of the relevant quotes and such. one is firmly against the LDs position and the other is very supportive of the LDS position. between the two you get good verifiable references of what is and was taught.:
exmormon.org/mormon/mormon327.htm
mormonfortress.com/ga.html
I think the pro_LDS article makes a fatal error in āassumingā that the Catholic church wasnāt Roman or even a cohesive church before Constantine. I completely disagree with Nibley that Rome was āsmall potatoesā before that time. Further I think the ECF writings available to us today prove that the doctrines have remained constant from NT to the present and thus the whole apologetic argument based on that seems irrelevant.
as to the GAās words being doctrine and the ensign conference report like scripture:
here is a quick collection of quotes on that:
lds-mormon.com/thinking.shtml
I would add to that for fairness (pun intended

) these as well:
fairlds.org/apol/ai104.html
scriptures.byu.edu/
hopefully that will give you enough to make an objective analysis.
