  1. See the return of the TLM and the otherRites and Uses of the Church, such as the Mozarabic, Ambrosian, Dominican, Carmelite, Carthusian etc. Rites and the Roman Rite Uses of Sarum, York etc.
  2. More laced or apparelled albs.
  3. Putting Gregorian Chant back.
  4. The NO Mass revised a bit to make it conform to the TLM and other Rites.
  5. NO LITURGICAL ABUSES OF ANY KIND.
  6. The return of the order of Subdeacon 7. Clergy preaching solid and sound doctrine from the Pulpits.
  7. Seminaries in every Diocese, as per Trent.
  8. Clergy growing some backbones and not fearing to be divisive in the good sense of the word.
  9. More direct attempts for Evangelization than dialog.
  10. Incense. and not those incense sticks that Buddhists/Taoists/Confucianists/New Agers use.
  11. People professingObedienceto the Supreme Pontiff and to the Holy Roman Church and not just following their own consience or their interpretation of something. That, for me should be the true mark of a Tradionalist.

I only have one wish. The grace and time to be able to go to confession. Right now, I can try to go on Saturday afternoon at my local parish 45 minutes before the vigil Mass at 4. But I canā€™t go there because there are greeters and they are having a fine time in the vestibule - hardly conducive for an examination of oneā€™s conscience. Been there, done that, not going to do it again.

I could go to another well-known conservative parish in town but the lines are so long I often have to leave w/o being confessed and this includes the 1/2 hour schedule they have on Wednesday evenings. Subject to whether or not the priest shows. Sometimes he doesnā€™t.

I could drive further to my own cathedral parish and encounter the same thing - too many penitents, too little time.

When I was a teenager in a Catholic high school back in the late 60s, we had confession offered at school - every week. But I always knew that confessions were offered throughout the day at a downtown church on my way home. I could miss one bus and be twenty minutes late getting home.

My wish? Increased availability of confession.

  1. The return of a distinction between Low Mass and High Mass in the Novus Ordo Rite
  2. Latin classes offered at all Catholic schools and as adult education at the parish level
  3. None of those weird abstract/modernist looking minimalist crosses and/or crucifixes
  4. An end of the practice of lay people handing out the Eucharist
  5. Gregorian chant and sacred polyphony used exclusively during Mass
  6. Priests who talk about sin, the Church Fathers, and the Four Last Things during sermons
  7. The return of traditional vestments for priests and traditional habits for nuns
  8. Excommunication or other serious penalties for cardinals, bishops, priests, nuns, and theologians who actively teach dissent
  9. An increased usage of the TLM (maybe make it a separate rite?)

I wish for an end to condescending lectures from some folks along the lines of ā€œOh, you donā€™t know bad it was back then!ā€
(I wonder how it could be worse than it is nowā€¦)

Yā€™see, Iā€™m a convert, and I do NOT have that baggage.
What I DO have is the desire the see more reverent liturgies!
After all, Lex orandi, lex credendi!!!
Me also.

Great thread, so many good posts with very few exceptions.

:amen: Iā€™d suggest making an appointment outside scheduled times, except if the priest doesnā€™t show for the scheduled times he may miss appointments too šŸ˜¦

I do thank God every day for the one nearby parish that has a minimum of half an hour (more usually an hour) confession before each and every Mass, and often extends them into the Mass time itself. Iā€™ve never had to miss out when I needed confession.

If it will make Mass more solemn, Iā€™m all for it. But think how much itā€™ll infuriate all the Mass musicians out there, who live to bang away on their electric guitars and drums every weekend.:o

I know appointments exist. But I grew up when appointments were unheard of. We didnā€™t have appointments way back when. We went and there was a plethora of times to be able to go to Confession.

True - there were also more priests available to hear them. Sadly, until such time as vocations increase sufficiently to make this possible again, the appointment is probably the best option.

Yeahā€¦ Someone once told me thereā€™s a church that looks like a SPACESHIP!

Songs that actually honor Our Lord and Lady instead of singing of the trees and what not.

Prayer for Vocations at each Massā€¦ Ours do! šŸ˜ƒ

More times for Confessionā€¦ None of that ā€œyou must make an appointmentā€ junk.

Speak of the TRUTH and beauty of the Mass and other doctrines in homilies and homilies that teach people what is wrong! Like contraception.

Iā€™d like to say more adoration tooā€¦ Not that there isntā€™ a lot already if you know where to lookā€¦ What we really need is for people to really UNDERSTAND Who is there! And Who waits for us to come to Him!
Gee I think you have been to our fine city! We have a ā€˜modernā€™ church that looks just like the spaceship has landed!

I donā€™t mind having the girls be altar servers but I wish someone would make it mandatory to come dressed properly for mass. The children now wear thongs and slides (that are dirty). They think just because they are wearing an alb that no one can see their feet. But we can, unfortunately!

I wish that the parish coordinator at my parish would stop promoting women priests.

There was a vocations retreat\weekend in our diocese, but do you hear about it in my parishā€¦
Of course not,
Since liberals want women priests they generally seek ways to destroy the male priesthood, to promote female priests. Vocations are discouraged especially if the person is orthodox, I have been to the seminary here and it is tough for the young men. It is a thinking that has infected us here in Southern California and all we can do is pray and be patient that our shepherds might do something about it.

I pray that our Bishop who would promote orthodoxy and fidelity to God. He does care about immigrants and social justice, I just wish he would balance it out.
Negativity toward the Holy Church is common especially whenever someone mentions official Church teaching.

In Christ

In my parish we have Weds and Sat confession and sometimes the priest doesnā€™t show on Weds. I grew up in the same era, appointments??? It so rubs me the wrong way when folks say just make an appointment!

That would be my wish as well, more availability to confession without appointments.

And no more Ecumenical ministers.

No married priests!

Just one thing. Reverence. I donā€™t care what language you use, but I want reverence. And beauty. O.K. make it two.

I want to add to with list.
  1. Require Eastern Catholics to put the Filoque back into their Creeds so that the enitre Universal Church has but one creed.
  2. Require Eastern Catholics to assent to ALL Catholic dogma and instead of professing the faith the Eastern Orthodox so that those in the Universal Church profess one faith.
  3. Stop using the ā€œtwo lungā€ theory when refering to the Eastern Orthodox.

I donā€™t know if this has been said, but:

I want the U.S. Bishops to address peopleā€™s priorities when it comes to working vs. going to Church on Sunday or vs. a Holy Day of obligation. When I say peopleā€™s priorities, they need to address the priorities of the worker and the employer. No worker should be afraid to take an hour off of work on Sundayā€™s and Holy Days of Obligation and no employer should penalize an employee for wanting to observe the requirements of their religion.

From personal experience, an employee who does not have a guilty conscience is a productive employee. šŸ™‚

The U.S. Bishops have glossed over this issue by moving Holy Days of obligation to Sundays.

Here is a humble Germans wish

Women always dressing modestly, meaning head coverings, and
long skirts well below the knee, and long shirts over the elbow and
no low cut front on the shirt.
I totally agree with you on this point. This is one of the main reasons I go to a traditional latin mass. I donā€™t like being tempted while at mass.

It has been 3 years since I moved from the most conservative Diocese (Arlington, VA) in the United States to the Diocese of St. Augustine, FL and I am still most unhappy with my parish here. I think what bothers me the most is the lack of reverence. My pastor in VA would speak very sternly to people who lingered after Mass and talked in the church. There was absolutely no talking before Mass.
My new pastor here in FL opens and closes each Mass with a joke. The associate pastor invites everyone at the start of Mass to ā€œBreathe in Jesus, breathe out loveā€ and then stand and greet all of our neighbors. There is always chatting and ā€œcatching upā€ before Mass and people standing in the pews or aisles talking after Mass. Everyone holds hands during the ā€œOur Father,ā€ and the Sign of Peace is a huge love fest, making ā€œcommunityā€ more important than anything else going on at Mass.
I feel as though Iā€™m not even at a real Mass anymore, God help meā€¦If I could have one wish, it would be for REVERENCE (sorry for shouting). To be able to leave Mass feeling as though I had really been in the presence of something Sacred, instead of at a community meeting. I know I was, but I wish everyone around me would realize and act that way.
Please, please pray for me!!!

Dear rich1lenore,

Please know that I will pray for you. What is so wonderful is that you have stuck it out! You know that Jesus is in the church with you and He is the only one who counts. He is keeping you close to Him by bringing you to church and helping you cope with the irreverence around you. Stay strong and know that He is there with you always!:blessyou:

As Iā€™ve said in another post, check out the Nunā€™s Mass at the Shrine of Our Blessed Sacrament if you want holy and reverent. To all these great wishes, I wish to move the Tabernacle back into the Church so it stops feeling like a multi-purpose room, stop the parishes being run by lay people, and stop using those Eucharistic Ministers at Mass - can we not wait in line a little longer to receive from a priest or deacon?

So for now, I concentrate on God, close my eyes so as not to be distracted so much, obey the Magesterium, and try not to judge all the stuff that seems so wrong to me.
