       Qualifications of Signers
... Outlined below are the numbers of Petition Project signatories, subdivided by educational specialties. These have been combined, as indicated, into seven categories.
       1. Atmospheric, environmental, and Earth sciences includes 3,804 scientists trained in specialties directly related to the physical environment of the Earth and the past and current phenomena that affect that environment.
       2. Computer and mathematical sciences includes 935 scientists trained in computer and mathematical methods. Since the human-caused global warming hypothesis rests entirely upon mathematical computer projections and not upon experimental observations, these sciences are especially important in evaluating this hypothesis.
           3. Physics and aerospace sciences include 5,812 scientists trained in the fundamental physical and molecular properties of gases, liquids, and solids, which are essential to understanding the physical properties of the atmosphere and Earth.
       4. Chemistry includes 4,821 scientists trained in the molecular interactions and behaviors of the substances of which the atmosphere and Earth are composed.
       5. Biology and agriculture includes 2,965 scientists trained in the functional and environmental requirements of living things on the Earth.
       6. Medicine includes 3,046 scientists trained in the functional and environmental requirements of human beings on the Earth.
           7. Engineering and general science includes 10,103 scientists trained primarily in the many engineering specialties required to maintain modern civilization and the prosperity required for all human actions, including environmental programs.
The following outline gives a more detailed analysis of the signers’ educations.

Having a degree in medicine or food science does not make you an expert in climatology.
In fact, even among those who have a bachelor’s degree in climatology, this does not make you an expert in the field. You become recognised as an expert in the field when you publish peer reviewed papers in the area of climatology.

Let’s forget the numbers for a moment, please. All scientists are trained and/or experienced in the scientific method and quickly spot flaws in methodology and raw data. Does the truth matter at all, or is the agenda more important?
Having a bachelor’s degree in mathematics doesn’t make you an expert in climatology. Similarly, studying to be a doctor of medicine does not make you an expert in the field of climatology.

Not to mention you have to wonder of the small handful which appear to actually have a degree in a relevant field how many actually published papers on the field. And how many of them would actually sign the petition today.

I thought this post was good too. greenfyre.wordpress.com/2009/07/12/what-if-the-oregon-petition-names-were-real/ and it links to several other links
Yes.
There is another problem in that names agre given, but do we know with what institution they are affiliated?

Who said it does? I was speaking of fixed scientific principles which can be applied to any given area of study. Do you need an advanced degree in Nuclear Physics to know that it is wrong to repair a reactor with duct tape and nails? A scientist - any type of accredited scientist, will recognize faulty methodology.

So, are you in effect saying that the only credible scientists are those you agree with?

Or, that GW theory is actually an established, bedrock fact and only the profoundly stupid or intrinsically evil will question it?

The above are simple questions and not accusations.

Rome did comment, and just recently. Pope Benedict XVI said that we need to be better stewards of our environment and we need to make sure that we have a system in place to make that environment cleaner and safer for the people who live in it. however, the pope also noted that he does not belong to the “school of Gore.”

Yes.

And I could ask the same of those scientists who are pushing the AGCC “facts.” How many are there, who is funding them, and what are their qualifications?

It in fact isn’t even relevant anymore. We all agree climate change is happening now. The scientific method to which PO118guy was referring is what’s lacking with AGCC proponents. They have lost all credibility.

The air is cleaner than it’s ever been. AGCCers won’t accept that and want US to make Al Gore and his ilk richer.

Somebody here said they wanted to rev up their old muscle car and spew black smoke in there air! Those days are gone.

We agree sidbrown!!! 👍👍👍

Being a slumlord in TN who happened to be a senator and vice president doesn’t make an expert in climo either. That’s just an inconvenient truth.

BTW…look at how many “scientists” are not climatologists…yet have gained considerble say in the hoax of AGW.

Are there any other carbon neutral cities besides the Vatican?
What the heck is a carbon-neutral city? HOW is it possible to have a carbon-neutral city? Human beings are carbon-based. Are you going to rid the world of carbon-based units??

I would agree that Al Gore is not an expert in climatology and personally have never seen an inconvienent truth and never plan too.

Anyway I found a some more info. This first link compares 5 names from the petition to the first 5 authors listed for the IPCC AR4 WG.

thingsbreak.wordpress.com/2008/05/21/oregon-petition-redux/
and read the comments too more are listed

Oh and here is a table showing the 619 authors of the IPCC AR4 WG1

eecg.utoronto.ca/~prall/climate/AR4wg1_authors_table.html

Really though what it comes down to is the science not how many people signed a petition or had the petition signed for them it seems in a few of these cases lol

The only degree Gore has behind him is a Bachelor’s in ‘Baptist’ Theology…and that too is an ‘inconvenient’ truth.

Hmm…I guess you can’t know about anything unless you have a degree in it? Does my education stop at graduation?

Chris 0711 Sorry, lets change **** to nonsense.

Now what part of " the world does not have a global warming problem" don’t you understand.

And don’t give me the “enviromentally aware and responsible” nonsense.

THERE IS NO EVIROMENT PROBLEM.

The world has never been in better shape.
Couple of points.

JRPO, you live in Australia, correct? Do you have a local conservancy group, perhaps one that goes to local streams and rivers and collects trash, or monitors water quality and reports violations to the gov’t?
If you do, I recommend that you volunteer a day or two with these people and see what they are dealing with on an everyday basis in your community. It will change your point of view about the health of the environment, trust me.

Second point - a theological question, actually - in your signature JRPO it asks Mary to bless the world. Is that something Mary can do?

Hmmmm…good question. I would think so. Priests and such can bless ask God to bless us. Perhaps he is asking Mary to ask God to bless the world.

I dunno, it just seems that it’s poorly worded if it’s meant to ask Mary to ask God.

To quote Michael Medved: “Focus like a laser beam here”. I am talking about scientists and the scientific method. Instead of throwing red herrings, why not simply address the question?

Most environmental damage on earth does not lead to, or contribute to alleged warming. Warming is not the danger - even if it were occurring. Basic air, ground and water pollution is the problem. It ruins the sources of potable water, clouds the air and negatively impacts human life by reducing arable land and food production. This is what we are called to take action on. However, the Holy Father also realizes that corrupt governmental forms are also a hazard to mankind.
Thank you for this. This is what I’ve been trying to get acroos with all of my other posts. It is quite possible that I just worded it poorly but thats unimportant.

Again a sincere thank you from someone who realizes that we have a resposibility and calling to be good stewards. We, ourselfves, personally.

Simply put, what we bury comes back in the water. What we burn comes back in the air. I have travelled several times to one of the most environmentally damaged nations in the western hemisphere. To see streams which were used for fishing a generation ago now lifeless and flowing with blue, sudsy water is just horrible. This is what the Holy Father is speaking of. The reduction of corruption, increased education and prudential action are the keys in recovering what has been lost. The earth will heal once the wounding stops. I am not an environmental activist. Just Catholic. I must follow Benedict XVI’s lead on this.
