The sense, to date, is that this is a “novel” virus, hence no one was immune. The pandemic threat will be over, when we reach a level of herd immunity, through infection and/or vaccine. We flatten the curve to avoid overwhelming the health care system - so that people do not needlessly die - and but time toward a vaccine. The trade-off in the question of how flat, is to avoid unnecessary economic dislocation. Navigating between the perils of needless death and economic collapse will involve some subtlety. I hope that we are up to it.My understanding, then, is that we have been advised to avoid infection and transmission as much as practical , and that there is no such thing as “not enough transmission”, or “flattening the curve too much”.
