I do not understand. Perhaps I don’t understand what you are referring to.
Filling the vacancy is part of the constitutional duty… isn’t it?
So why was it not a constitutional duty in 2016?

If the leftist Dems get their way, they and only they will have a voice and complete control over the populace,

Now you have it.We control the senate and the presidency,so yes Trump gets to nominate and confirm a new SCOTUS
When opportunity knocks and this is a very crucial opportunity for the future of our Nation, we must act now

I don’t want our political life to devolve into ‘red in tooth and claw’ all-out war.
It already is. The duly elected president spent the first two years being accused and investigated for spurious charges, followed immediately by impeachment for nothing. The Democrat speaker of the house speaks of “arrows in their quiver” to use against Trump if he dares to exercise his power to appoint a Supreme Court justice. And that’s not political “war”?

I do not recall anyone stopping the president from nominating anyone.
Perhaps you can elaborat
Why did Mitch McConnell refuse to bring it to floor if it is such a Constitutional Duty.

Politics per usual. The Dems have no standing on this as they have taken advantage of every political rule in the books.Their outrage over this is feigned and couched in their real lust for power and abortion rights.
Period

You completely misunderstand the composition of the Senate. The population is represented in the House of Representatives. The Senate represents the states.
Oh, I understand the Senate.

It can lead to the tyranny of the minority.

But that’s precisely not a good argument to make because it leads to a race to the bottom.

The Dems have changed the goal posts re anything political with their underhanded and devious actions certainly for the past for years.
This opportunity to get a SCOTUS confirmation this close to an election is a blessed opportunity. RBG,may she Rest In Peace, hung on to her position far too long,no doubt for ideological reasons that she was committed to,so why should the Republicans be gracious now when they can change the trajectory of the SCOTUS,as least for now,for idiological reasons?

As the House can lead to the tyranny of the majority. I would prefer not to be ruled by the big cities.
And hence the divide the country finds itself in.

I’m a big advocate for campaign finance reform and a bi-partisan commission to determine Congressional districts. I think most should always be competitive.
