Your own site defines Sacred Scripture as the Bible (Yes it’s a collection of holy traditions but it is now called Sacred Scripture instead of Tradition)

And Sacred Tradition as what the curch adds on top of the Sacred Scripture.

I find this very clear and don’t understand the confusion

In summary:
Catholics and Mormons share the core Sacred Scripture (the Bible)
Catholics have 2k years of Sacred Tradition not shared by Mormons
Mormons have additional Sacred Scripture and “Tradion” not shared by Catholics.
Well, this is of course the view from Salt Lake City. One that requires Jesus Christ being separated from His Church. Catholics don’t share this view.

St. Paul condemns (baptism of the dead)
What Mormons do today- How can you say that is tradition?

1 Corinthians 1:14

I give God thanks, that I baptized none of you but Crispus and Caius; [15] Lest any should say that you were baptized in my name.

Catholicism is monotheistic - Mormonism is polytheistic (or henotheistic)

Christianity is a monotheistic religion. Mormonism is not Christian.

The Catholic Church is The True Church. Mormonism is a fraud,

Why look for similarities when there is no comparison?

wow, reading comprehension for some of you is quite low.

No body disagreed that the Bible (Scripture) was created by the catholic church based on oral tradition. Why do you keep repeating it, Here’s a back pat for your insecurity

any similarities are merely coincidental.

Catholics believe in the God of the Bible. Mormons believe in an odd little god who was once a sinful man.

Catholics follow Christ. Mormons follow false prophets.

Catholics follow the Bible and Sacred Tradition. Mormons follow a fictional book that has no basis in history, anthropology, geography, archeology, or any science.

Catholics have a God that is unchanging and all-powerful. Mormons have a little god who changes his mind whenever money and/or property is at stake (ie. polygamy and black holding the priesthood/racism).

Catholics beleive heaven is a free gift from God, Mormons have to pay their way to heaven (thru forced tithing).

Catholics believe in God’s Mercy, Mormons, until recently, believed you could spill blood to save others (blood oath).

Catholics believe Jesus is the only begotten Son of God. Mormons believe Jesus and Satan were brothers.

Catholics believe Mary is forever Virgin, Mormons believe that God had actual physical sex with Mary.

Catholics believe that Jesus is also God, powerful honest, and merciful, Moormons believe that Jesus was weak, dishonest and cruel (for that is the ONLY way there could have been a total Apostasy).

Catholics can visit cities and places in the Bible, Mormons can’t agree on where the BM took place, much less visit any of sites.

Catholics believe that a calling to serve God is special and personal and can last a lifetime, Mormons don;t wait for God to call, they expect their youths to go at 19 and only spend 2 years as a break between two years of college.

And those are just some of the differences.

I felt STM’s errors required correction
  • Catholics & LDS believe in the God of the Bible…
  • Catholics & LDS both have Christ as the leader of their respective Churches.
  • Catholics & LDS follow the Bible as ‘Sacred Scripture’ They do not agree on subsequent Sacred Tradition or revelations/doctrine
  • Catholics have a God that is unchanging and all-powerful. (covered in the first bullet)
  • Catholics & LDS believe Salvation comes from both faith and works
  • Catholics & LDS both believe in God’s Mercy,
  • Catholics & LDS both believe Jesus is the ‘only begotten’ Son of God. Though scripture teaches we are all “sons of God”
  • Catholics believe Mary is forever Virgin, LDS believe Mary had a family with her husband.
  • Catholics & LDS believe in the Trinity of God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost.
  • – Catholics believe they are “three persons in one nature.”
  • – LDS believe they are “three persons in one purpose”
  • Catholics & LDS can visit cities and places in the Bible, Archeology supporting the BOM is contested
  • Catholics believe that a calling to serve God is special and personal and can last a lifetime,
  • LDS believe everyone is called to service, thus allowing church wards and programs to run using volunteer staff.
There are clear differences in beliefs, culture and interpretation of common scripture, but at the level indicated my statements are accurate

I felt STM’s errors required correction
  • Catholics & LDS believe in the God of the Bible…(Not quite…Mormons believe their god is a perfected man with a body…that is NOT a Catholic teaching or belief)
  • Catholics & LDS both have Christ as the leader of their respective Churches. (But the Christ of the Catholic Church didn’t have Lucifer as a brother)
  • Catholics & LDS follow the Bible as ‘Sacred Scripture’ They do not agree on subsequent Sacred Tradition or revelations/doctrine (Mormons believe in the Bible, "as far as it has been correctly interpreted/translated)
Though scripture teaches we are all “sons of God” (mormon and Catholic views of “begotten” are quite different)
  • Catholics believe Mary is forever Virgin, LDS believe Mary had a family with her husband. (Let’s not forget that mormons believe their god had physical sex with Mary)
  • Catholics & LDS believe in the Trinity of God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost. (Again, mormon version of god is he has a physical body, and is an exalted man…NOT a Catholic teaching)
  • Catholics believe they are “three persons in one nature.”
  • LDS believe they are “three persons in one purpose”
  • Catholics & LDS can visit cities and places in the Bible, Archeology supporting the BOM is contested (does contested mean non existant?)
  • Catholics believe that a calling to serve God is special and personal and can last a lifetime, (Not quite right. All are called to serve God, just not in the same capacity)
  • LDS believe everyone is called to service, thus allowing church wards and programs to run using volunteer staff. (You are obviously not aware of all of the “volunteer” ministries of the Catholic church. One BIG one is St. Vincent DePaul, but the list goes on.)
There are clear differences in beliefs, culture and interpretation of common scripture, but at the level indicated my statements are accurate
Well, some of your statements are somewhat accurate, I will leave the ones I haven’t addressed to others.

Hey, i avoided correcting STM’s statemens on Catholicism so criticize him if he got it wrong. I then removed innuendo and slander, and provided a comparison at the same high level articulated by STM for Catholics.

-If we dig down on any issue they are always 100’s of differences. We are not the same, but that would be a different post than correcting STM

-If we dig down on any issue they are always 100’s of differences. We are not the same,
I agree. I just wonder why LDS produce comparisons that seem to work to show that there are no differences, when they know there are “100’s”. 🤷

Todd…please be honest for those who are not familiar with true LDS Doctrine…I have posted the truth

Catholics believe in the God of the Bible. Mormons believe in an odd little god who was once a sinful man. (LDS Prophet: As Man is, God once was…")

Catholics follow Christ. Mormons follow false prophets. (Christ is secondary. Jo once said HE had done more than even Christ. Again, I speak the truth)

Catholics follow the Bible and Sacred Tradition. Mormons follow a fictional book that has no basis in history, anthropology, geography, archeology, or any science. (Again, there is NONE, ZERO, ZILCH evidence that the BM is anything more than a fantasy)

Catholics have a God that is unchanging and all-powerful. Mormons have a little god who changes his mind whenever money and/or property is at stake (ie. polygamy and black holding the priesthood/racism). (God allegedly says polygamy is a commandment…but when the LDS Church starts losing property, their god blinks and cancels polygamy…LDS Church banned blacks until the late 60s when they were despised and boycotted for doing so. Again, their god blinked. That is NOT a strong, unchanging God)

Catholics beleive heaven is a free gift from God, Mormons have to pay their way to heaven (thru forced tithing). (if you do not pay tithing, you cannot go to the temple. If you do not go to the temple, you do not get the highest level of heaven…that is buying your way to heaven)

Catholics believe in God’s Mercy, Mormons, until recently, believed you could spill blood to save others (blood oath). (Read BY quotes about blood oaths. The LDS temple ceremonies were bloody as well, as you allowed yourself to be killed in horrible ways)

Catholics believe Jesus is the only begotten Son of God. Mormons believe Jesus and Satan were brothers. (LDS believe Jesus was Satan;s brother. How is that only begotten? Don;t let Todd fool you)

Catholics believe Mary is forever Virgin, Mormons believe that God had actual physical sex with Mary. (BY taught that God had physical sex with Mary…that is simply disgusting.)

(There IS NO ARCHELOGICAL EVIDENCE OF THE BM. It can’t be contested because there is nothing to contest.

Catholics believe that a calling to serve God is special and personal and can last a lifetime, Mormons don;t wait for God to call, they expect their youths to go at 19 and only spend 2 years as a break between two years of college.

Are you aware that in the Thirteen Principles of the Jewish Faith states that God has no body?
Are you aware that Catholics believe in the same God as the Jews and that Mormons believe that God has a body and therefore cannot believe in the same God as the Jews or Catholics?
How can Mormons claim to be a Christian religion if Christianity is the fulfillment of Old Testament?
How can the Mormons re-define the God of the Old Testament?

I’m pretty certain the Jews don’t believe in the Trinity, Overlooking Jesus has a big impact on the definition of God, so Jewish God does not equal Catholic God

Unfortunately, I have heard this a zillion times from Mormon posters. I will tackle this one later.

The question is this - How can Mormons believe that God has a body when the God of the Hebrew Bible/OT teaches He does not?

You quote the Bible but re-define God. Why?

I’m a weekend warrior and not a theologian. I think the problem arises from intepretation of the verses in the Bible. First let’s acknowledge there are very few verses that cover this topic.

At the beginning of the Bible G 1:26
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

How did God make man in his image if God was without form or substance, without a body. I think Catholics focus on the soul and completely ignore the physical aspect of man.

Yes we disagree on interpreting this verse,
NO we don’t disagree on God’s commandments to us, how to live our lives.

I would have sympathy for people calling LDS not Christian if we only had 6 commandments instead of the same 10 as you, etc

Todd, perhaps your problem is that you are not acquainted with this book:

usccb.org/catechism/text/

Two of your questions are answered there: The Trinity and the parallel with the three primary aspects of human existence, mind, body, and spirit. The other is the Catholic interpretation of the ten commandments. Sin is much more broadly defined in Catholicism than it is in Mormonism. This is understandable, since Mormonism’s roots come from Protestant fundamentalism.
