That is NOT what he said! If you are going to use an example, then at least get it right.

And they all eventually stopped, too. Do you consider the same in people who sin at one time or another?

George Harrison was the only one who established an attachment to Hindu perspectives…does that really make him so bad? He was never Catholic nor had he ever professed to being Christian. In his own words, his family wasn’t “anything.” Or are you saying that all Hindus are bad people because they aren’t Catholic?

Really? I’d appreciate a link. I’ve seen many interviews with McCartney and, other than the English habit that if foreign to us here in America, never heard anything like you describe.

And how do you know they weren’t nice people?
sorry but I am not sure why you are so defensive about them? I did say they were talented and Paul and John were brilliant writers. I also agree with Hooser Daddy that you can see their progression in the music from love songs to drug related music. They all did drugs and they all went to India even is only one stayed with it. They also are one of the biggest rock bands in history whether you love them or hate them. Their music reflected all these things. About whether they were nice people, Paul’s second wife who did divorce him did charge him abuse. I am not sure any big rock star is really nice just my observation.

I am “defensive” because of the loads of nonsense in this thread.

So, is now going to India to study meditation something that should be condemned by the Church? And in regards to McCartney’s second wife, have you read the things that have been written about her? She certainly does not sound like a “nice” person.

And please show me all of the “drug related music” that was produced by the Beatles. Other than the line “I’d love to turn you on” in A Day In The Life or “trying to make a dovetail joint” in Glass Onion, I would be hard pressed to mention anything in a Beatles song that was directly about drugs. According to Mickey Dolenz, there was more drug references in Monkees songs than in Beatles songs.

Finally, how in the Hades do YOU know that no “big rock star is really nice?”

Uh oh. Somebody has the original white album in Vinyl hanging on their wall.😉

You probably should look into the later drug related music they did. As for a religious aspect I don’t think you can make a good case there either.

If you like the Beatles, great! But lets not idolize them and get all bent out of shape when there are some legitimate criticisms given.

Were the Beatles drugies. Yes.
Were they Godless, or worship false gods. Yes.

Can you like their music. Yes.

Can you name a “Big rock star” that is really “nice?”

ok ok, Besides Bono…

👍

(especially their earlier music 🙂 )

They were at one time and then they stopped. So do you still consider them “druggies?” Do you consider recovered addicts to still be “druggies?”

This is probably the most arrogant, asinine thing I have read here. How in the name of good fortune are you able to declare someone that you’ve never spent 5 minutes with to be “godless” or “worship false gods?” Even Pope Francis would not be so presumptuous. Simply incredible.

Ok, I’m out. Thank you and have a nice day.

So he was baptized at two months old. Still, according to him, as far as religious affiliation his family wasn’t “anything.” Hitler was baptized, too, but that didn’t make him religious.
But it does make them catholic.

Really? As you have publicly made this claim, could you please post the sinful lines in the Beatles 20 Greatest Hits?
Statutory warning: the reply below is intended as satire. Woe to anyone who takes it seriously

  1. *]“She Loves You” Abusive relationship: "you hurt her so, she almost lost her mind"
*] “Love Me Do” Describes a seduction.
*] “I Want to Hold Your Hand” This is a metaphor for evil sins of the flesh. Holy modesty FTW!
*] “Can’t Buy Me Love” Promotes socialism and left-wing ideologies.
*] “A Hard Day’s Night” Denigrates the dignity of work and promotes a materialistic, un-Catholic view of man-woman relations.
*] “I Feel Fine” Can you say “inordinate attachments”?
*] “Eight Days a Week” Blasphemy against God’s creation of the world in 7 days, and the holiness of the Sabbath.
*] “Ticket to Ride” God hates divorce.
*] “Help!” He should be praying to God, not singing this dopey song.
*] “Yesterday” See “Ticket to Ride”.
*] “We Can Work It Out” No, only God can work it out.
*] “Paperback Writer” Must be a trashy novel.
*] “Penny Lane” I’m sure it says “Hail Sephiroth” when played backwards.
*] “All You Need Is Love” No, all you need is the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.
*] “Hello, Goodbye” This ambiguity is typical of Modernism.
*] “Hey Jude” That’s St. Jude to you, you twit.
*] “Get Back” An invitation to apostasy and returning to a sinful life.
*] “Come Together” Promotes fake secular “brotherhood of man” values.
*] “Let It Be” Offers insult to Our Blessed Mother.
*] “The Long and Winding Road” A sorry portrayal of a man who keeps returning to sin and vice.

  1. Thank you in advance!
Q.E.D. These songs are instruments of Darth Vader himself! 😃 😛

LOL, RPRPsych. Some of those are not too far off.
  1. “Paperback Writer” Must be a trashy novel. (It’s a dirty story of a dirty man and his clinging wife doesn’t understand)

Indeed. I enjoy the songs, but I’m not looking for much moral edification there.

(However, if I were to write seriously, I would point out that “Hey Jude” was written for a child to comfort him over his parents’ divorce - which is far from objectionable.)

Indeed! 😃

And let’s not forget that one stanza of “Get Back” is about a cross-dresser (Horrors! The gay agenda!) 😛

But it does make them catholic.
I’m not going through the trouble of having to dig out the Beatles Anthology book, but Harrison is quoted as saying something to the effect of “if you weren’t CoE (Church of England), then you were considered RC (Roman Catholic). The fact is, though, that my dad wasn’t anything.” Perhaps his mother was religious enough to have her newborn infant baptized, but it doesn’t sound as though he was brought up in a religious environment. While technically, he may have been Catholic, the fact of the matter is that he wasn’t raised Catholic nor did he or his family practice the faith.

That’s the official line from Paul. I think it was about John Lennon, when he met Yoko. The sad song part was in reference to ‘Revolution’.

Hmm, I’d never heard that interpretation - but it does make a lot of sense. 👍

(And I’m surprised no one has brought up “Norwegian Wood” yet…) 😃

Irrelevant. You said that he “was never catholic” and that was not correct.
Seeing as you are the adjudicator of who is and isn’t Catholic, then I suppose it is your duty to inform his estate and relations that he was a member of the faith.

Yeah, attack me personally. Great idea. 👍
