:thumbsup:My nephew is on the spectrum, we attend Special Needs Mass each month with him. These things happen, we are blessed with a great Priest that has a loving way to handle situations. Did you see the photo where someone was greeting the Pope and the little boy was standing with them? It looked like he was trying to get rid of him. I was laughing.
I remember a clip with Pope Benedict that had kids asking questions that was so cute too.
Exactly. My son has autism. If he got away from me and ran up there, it would not be an easy thing to get him to come back and he certainly would pay no heed to the security guard or anyone else.

These things happen. If the pope wasn’t too concerned about it, I don’t know why anyone else should be.

On my first comment I stated my opinion and the point that comes across this situation. Of course we can come up with countless excuses why this is so cute, autism, hyperactivity, etc., and that’s why I included the part of the children running toward the altar at the middle of The Mass (any Mass), after all, they’re running toward The Lord, what’s wrong with that? Nothing, but there is a time and place for everything. That, was not a good timing.
Makes me wonder if this kid went to The Pope because he knew who he was or simply, let’s say, “curiosity”?

Have you ever had to handle a child such as this? I, also, wondered why did the parent not just go up and grab the child, even if he screamed and kicked and swatted all of the way out. But I guess I’m like the juror who likes to have all of the evidence before casting my vote.

Zab, I’m not negotiating or trying to win an argument. You have giving me three or four different reasons why you think interrupting The Pope is a good idea, I’m sure you have more, me, I’m simply stating the point that comes across. Again, kids that run to The Altar in the middle of Mass, not a good idea.

tamedlion, I have not given you any reasons why I think interrupting the Pope is a good idea. You are trying to make something out of nothing.

I thought Pope Francis handled this well but I couldn’t help wondering where were this kid’s parents? When my husband and I were watching this last night I told him there was no way I would let one of my children run amuck on any stage, during any ceremony, let alone the one with the Pope. He said maybe the parents were too afraid to go up on stage because of cultural reasons; because he was the Pope?
The children were all sitting directly in front of the Pope. Some about a foot in front of him and a foot to the side of him. There were about 20 kids up there with him. Obviously it was planned to not have the parents up there. It was a beautiful ceremony. I watched every second of it. A beautiful celebration of and for families. It was adorable when the kid gave him a hug and sat in his chair.

If the pope had no problem with it, why do you?
I can see your point if the kid was like 12, but it was a little kid. Big deal. Yes, it might not have been a “good” idea, but life happens. He hugged the pope…It’s not like he was throwing spitballs.

Some people don’t “need” to have an excuse to think it’s cute. It just is.🤷

👍 It was a day that celebrated FAMILY. Children are a huge part of what makes a FAMILY.

👍

👍 The interview I saw this morning indicates that the vatican officials are very happy with the way things worked out.

I believe that some of the media do use Our Holy Father Pope Francis in order to make subtle attacks. For example, the link posted of the news announcer saying something to the effect that this pope was unlike any of those before him… But I also agree with those who say when life gives you lemons, make lemonade! So yes, I’m thankful for any news we get of our Holy Father.
I woould agree that the effect of this is unlike what we have seen before. At first Pope Frances was being compared to JP II, that would be a mistake now, he is unlike any pope we have known in the modern age. No lemons here.

Just for clarification, I was not implying that Pope Francis is a lemon. What I was referring to as a lemon is the media’s subtle attacks.

Here is the link in question where NBC news Brian Williams says, "Finally tonight a new indicator that this new pope, Pope Francis, isn’t like the others who came before him. “The latest evidence is how he handled an unplanned young visitor on stage this past weekend…”
How is the way that Pope Francis handled this situation proof that Pope Francis is not like those who came before him?

On the contrary, this is proof that Francis is very much like his predecessors. He handled the incident just like they handled similar ones, with much grace and dignity. Father Z provided a video of Benedict XVI’s candid encounter with a child, and there was great respect shown in both directions.

I personally can’t conceive of a way to explain how this would define Francis as different from all the others. Where exactly is the difference here? Are we supposed to believe that Benedict and those before him were mean old men in dresses, and Francis is the most fantastic and wonderful and fluffiest and huggable Pope ehvurrrr?

Agreed. I love Pope Francis! I also loved Pope Benedict XVI! And, I loved Pope John Paul II!

There is definitely some overkill in the “isn’t like any other” coverage Pope Francis is getting. I mean, he is wonderful, but you would think his predecessors were mean, idealogical ogres, based on the way he is being singled out as “different.” I can’t speak for popes prior to John Paul II, as I was young and not Catholic, but the three Popes I have witnessed have all been wonderful examples of Jesus’ love.

God has given us a pope for our age. One that can can be a pastor, Chrismatic, and a media star.
It will come with the MSM that the honeymoon will wear off, but in the mean time we need to use what we have been given to the fullest extent.
As I said he is unlike any pope we have had before, He is Pope Frances, unique as God has made him.

With that, I agree. I just don’t agree with the news anchor’s statement in reference to the way Pope Francis treats children.

“Jesus, however, called the children to himself and said, “Let the children come to me and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” - Luke 18:16
Amen!
Pope Francis is so Christ-like in his actions it takes my breath away; I frequently find myself welling with tears when reading articles about/ by him or see pictures of him loving his neighbors.
