Liturgical Dance-The Floor looked interesting today at the end of Mass

I agree. It’s not a great youth choir, but I think that is more of the fault of the director rather than the choir, especially in terms of dynamics, tempi, etc. It had the potential of being better than what it produced. BUT, it’s wonderful to see that there are people out there trying to pass on the music traditions to the younger generations. It’s in choirs like these that inspire kids. I was one of them, for our district and regional high school choirs. I don’t think I would have pursued a career in classical music or had a greater appreciation for our sacred music heritage had it not been for these music directors and the mentoring of my private music and spiritual teachers as well as my own musical experiences and discoveries in the liturgy.
 
Be aware, things like this are occurring out there. Sad.

However, there are also things like the Anglican Use liturgy, so it’s not all that bad with the new stuff in the Roman Catholic Church…

All that was missing in the dancing procession was a juggler and a couple of jesters…sacraligious at the very least. If I’m in a Church that has liturgical dance, I think I’ll get up and dance with 'em…

I really like my parish and I really hope that I never see liturgical dance there! One of the reasons I converted was because I love the solemnity of the Mass. I hate it when a church uses drums and electric guitars to perform sacred music. That is one reason I am no longer protestant. So, if my parish allowed liturgical dance I would definitely complain, wait to see if the practice was stopped and if not go to another parish.
 
Hey, at least your dancing was liturgical…

At my 8th grade graduation Mass in the late 90s, two of my classmates–neither of them Catholic, if I recall–danced in maroon leotards to some bad **Sting **soft rock song. Awful music, awful interpretive dance to go along with it. (I’m not joking…This was after Communion, before the final blessing.)

This followed a Mass that began with probably 10-15 of my other classmates, in matching black outfits but with different-colored sashes, dancing into Mass with the procession at the opening song. If only I could remember what that song was…some ‘cool’ Christian rock from the time about lighting your candle or some such nonsense. :rolleyes:

Best part about all this–I’m sure that some girls missed half of the liturgy due to ‘costume changes’.

Not-so-shockingly enough, I can think of perhaps 2 other faithfully practicing Catholics out of that class of 70.

My alma mater is in sad shape. 😦
