Actually I believe the ‘natural law’ as it has been described to me is a reflection of the social contract behind human civilization, and not universal across humanity. I came to this conclusion from knowledge of how different cultures had different concepts of good. There are several things most of these have in common – for instance, prohibitions against murder and theft – but there are differences between cultural social contracts. For one example, several ancient Greek cultures legitimized and promoted homosexuality.
The natural law does not talk about “results.” It talks about what is in men’s hearts.

The Mayans / Aztecs as portrayed in Apocalypto, as one example, performed human sacrifice (to a serpent god, no less).

They were led astray. The Natural Law says that murder of innocents, as in human sacrifice, is bad. They were convinced to believe that it was good - contrary to what they knew in their hearts to be true.

Being led astray is the story of mankind from Genesis chapter 3 onward.

Because people do it does not really mean they know in their hearts that it’s good.

Mel Gimlet knows Mayan history about as well as I do.

Maybe. Are you saying that the Mayas/Aztecs didn’t have human sacrifice?

I actually brought up the Mayas as a sort of neutral example. There probably aren’t many Mayas posting in the forum 😃

As to Mel, if he slandered me, I’d forgive him…

I just read that his movie wasn’t historically accurate.
