I don’t understand why Charlie committed suicide? He could’ve gotten on the other side of the door with Desmond. Also, it looked like he could’ve gotten out of the port hole as well, after the water filled the compartment he was in.
Mybe I’ll try to find out information about the actor who plays Charlie, to see if he has some personal issues in his real life, that led the writers to kill him off. Its one of the reasons Michael and Lucia were killed off.

My initial reaction was that Charlie may have thought the Desmond would have been so disallusioned by seeing Penny on screen that he would have stayed in that room and drown rather than leave. Or, perhaps if Charlie hadn’t shut the door, the water would have begun to flood the Looking Glass leaving them both trapped.
It seemed to me that whatever he was doing was something selfless, not some sort of despair/suicide.
The only thing that really seemed “off” to me was that Charlie made the sign of the cross with his left hand

Well while they never really answered many questions they provided a sufficient ending for the time being where the show can even be cancelled for all I care. They are off the island now and Jack is a mess but the story can end there if they want. In fact, what is the next few seasons going to be about? Are they going to go back to the island? I don’t see much of a need for more seasons.

Actually, I don’t think they are off the island yet. I think the ship offshore is an enemy ship, not friendly at all and when the show comes back we will just see Jack and gang fighting an entire new enemy, with Ben being co-opted to help.

I think that some sort of truce will be called and some sort of alliance will be made between the “others” and the crash victims. Together, they will fight the boat people.

There are many new questions because just like in life, we have new questions all the time. We won’t know the answers until we’er in heaven with God.

That was my first guess as I posted earlier how I think Ben might for once be right as evil as he is. In fact it might even be one of Ben’s ships and this who thing is an effort to gain the islander’s trust again so he can once again control everyone.

I didnt say I dind’t want more seasons; I just said that ifn they are going to cancel the show as stations sometiems do when viewership is lost as has been the case this season, at least I can be somewhat content since I can think they got off the island on that boat.Well feel free to not watch next season if the program upsets you so.

I think the ship off shore is evil and they will indeed band togehter to fight them.
I noticed one thing strange about Jacks flash forwards??? In one scene he tell the new head of surgery to get his dad and he will resign if he is drunker than his dad is. Well of course his dad is dead. That leads me to beleive we were seeing his frenzied thoughts as he led the group to the radio tower and was wondering what the effect of being saved would be,

ya but Jack probably meant it to be rhetorical as I’m sure many know how Jack turned his dad in for drinking on the job during the surgury. Also, Jack tired to use his father’s signature for a prescription and when they queston it he takes it back since he knoews they’l find out his father is dead and the prescription is a fake.

Charlie opted to close the door because he “believes” in Desmond’s flashes. He believes that the reality that includes the rescue of Clair and Aaron also includes his drowning. He assumes that he has to drown for the events that include rescue to come to pass.
I also thought it was odd that he crossed himself with his left hand. I am left handed and use my right for the Sign of the Cross. Hmm. What could that have indicated?

I think it’s that he didn’t know the correct way to do it, but he felt impelled to make a spiritual gesture. Then again, it could have been sloppiness in researching on the part of the actor/writers. Many other things they’ve done on the show related to Catholicism have been incorrect, so this could be following that. I prefer to think the first, though, that in his last seconds, Charlie was reaching out to God in the best way he knew how, full of faith that our Father can make up for what he lacks in and of himself.

OH MY WORD!
Before I catch up and read what everyone has to say, I thought I’d put down some thoughts.
Due to a Bible study and a men’s group meeting, I didn’t have the opportunity until friday to watch it. And let me re-iterate => OH MY WORD!
When my wife came to bed Wednesday (we had taped it and she opted to watch it at 10) that’s what she kept saying. Now I know why.
It seemed like once it got rolling, every commercial break ended on what could have been a cliff-hanger. Charlie was AWESOME! That way so cool that way he sat so nonchalantly in the chair and talked back to them:
Bonnie: I’m going to ask you this one more time. Why are you here?
Charlie: I’m here to turn off your jamming equipment, in there, next to the flashing yellow light.
Greta: How did you know about that?
Charlie: I know, because I know. Whatever you ladies do to me, I’m going to turn it off.
Bonnie: You are, huh?
Charlie: I most definitely am.
Sweet!
Second best was Jack. The way he was single-minded ‘we’re getting off this island’ - with Ben, with Tom, with Locke.
And Walt shows up?!?! Or was it “the island”?
How sad when Charlie died. My wife said afterwards she wasn’t sure if she could watch that again. But how cool that he did the sign of the cross before he died!!!
And what’s up w/ cyclops (Mikhail) coming back to life TWICE now!?!?
And the twist at the end. Wow! I wonder how they’re going to do future shows? I read that the rest of the actors didn’t have the finale scene in their script and that the lines were only given to Lily & Fox right before it was filmed.
Who’s in the coffin? My best guess would be Ben. He’s the only one I could see Kate reacting that way to.
Now to see what everyone else thinks.

I think that it was Ben too. Especially b/c no one went, not even any of the “others”. His lies seem to be causing everyone to abandon him.
