**Mods, please feel free to move this, not sure where the right section might be for this?

Okay, I had lunch today, and ate a small bowl of veggie type soup, with a few pieces of fish floating around…that sounds really bad, but it was good. 😃 lol I also had a small slice of avocado and a few bites of shredded crab to go along with it…I am still hungry, so I’m thinking that this was a decent fasting meal? :o It was like probably a half a mug of soup I’d say. Is that a good ‘smaller meal’ for Lent?

What does lunch look like for you during Lent? Breakfast is easier than lunch, I find. 🤷 **

Wow, are you fasting everyday or just Fridays? I’m just an abstinence guy on Fridays (except Good Friday of course).

What you mentioned surely doesn’t sound like a “full meal” so I would think definitely fits the bill for fasting. When I fast, I typically do a piece of fruit for breakfast. At lunch usually another piece of fruit and a handful of nuts (great for satisfying the hunger pangs). Dinner is usually my full meal but I don’t go overboard, most likely a salad or a piece of fish and some veggies. Oh yeah, and lots of water all day long. Good luck.

Sounds like your Friday “menu” was great 👍 I’m glad you can eat shellfish! My mother and I are both allergic to shellfish… which detracts from our Friday options a little. But with all the yummy vegetarian things that you can find in the freezer case… we get by fine!

I’m fasting on water, all Fridays of Lent… with one full meal around 3:00 (the Hour of Mercy 😃 Thank You, Lord). I will eat some fish (cod), potatoes and a salad in about 20 minutes. No dessert. Third day of NO DESSERT :crying: :rotfl: Pray for me!

We are only required to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. We are required to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays during lent.

On Ash Wednesday I had a tuna sub and a sweet tea as my main meal which was my lunch. I had a small bowl of oatmeal for my morning snack with a glass of milk and only had a piece of chocolate and a a glass of milk as my other snack at night.

What??? lol Oh brother. Well, that’s good to know! I thought it was every Friday…why did I think this? Well, maybe I’ll still continue every Friday. :o

aw! no dessert…my 12 yr old dd is doing this for Lent, bless your hearts. It will be tough this first week…but trust me, over time, you will ‘temper’ your cravings for that…I think that is the point, at the end of the day…we actually come full circle at the end of Lent, realizing that all we truly ‘need’ is God…and most of what we think we need, are wants. :o Praying for you to be tough!! 👍

you’re gonna be a stringbean by the time Lent is over! 😛 Good for you, though…I like the fruit and nuts idea.

I have started to think about what Jesus most likely ate, and something tells me not a whole lot. I also imagine He ate very healthy, and smaller meals throughout His day, just a hunch, not 100% sure of course.

My hubby is going to fast every Friday, but that’s a personal thing, we don’t all have to do it. Just abstain from meat.

I feel badly, but I can’t fast. I tried to be really good last year on Good Friday. I had a granola bar for breakfast and then our church has soup that evening after Mass. I was so sick, that we had to leave the soup dinner early and I had to go to bed.😊
This year, I will have to space out some kind of snack or just have three small meals…something. I didn’t want the focus to be on me, but on Jesus and instead my poor husband was worried about me. I guess I didn’t look so good:blush:

Aw, don’t feel bad. You might be suffering from low blood sugar, or some such thing. Lots of people have this difficulty. My sister and niece both do. I suggested to her, that they omit ONE or TWO foods they really enjoy. That way, they can participate in the fast.

I don’t think you are required to fast… if it’s going to make you physically ill. Just do the best you can.

I get cranky when I fast, so I find it’s better for me to just eat a decent meal and be super holy and good to everyone…😛 Except for Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, of course…🙂 I can make it through those two days (although not when pregnant)–I just have a hard time functioning on a fasting portion of food. I don’t know if it’s anemia or low blood sugar or what. 🤷

Well, maybe you read the same little Lent brochure I read the other day (picked up from church). I pointed out to DH that it had a mistake. The brochure said we fast and abstain on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday and then *fast *on every Lenten Friday (it should have said *abstain *on every Friday of Lent). 🙂

I can sympathize with still feeling hungry. I have a serious cake craving right now! I ate some dried apricots and a hard boiled egg (this is just a snack between meals) but yet I don’t feel any better :o I think it’s a psychological/spiritual thing. If I really think about it and imagine myself eating a piece of cake, I realize that’s not really what I want. Hmmm, maybe it’s time to drink some more water 😃 I wasn’t even eating that many sweets before Lent (not even every day), but now that I’ve officially given them up they are constantly on my mind! Why is that??

On Wednesday, my non-Catholic husband asked me how many days do I have to do this. Fasting that is. Since I was, “in a pissy mood all day,” I end up light headed and generally feel like … well, not good. I am anemic and tend to have low blood sugar.

I may have to do something else on Good Friday. I will play it by ear. If I get lightheaded again, I will have to eat.

Link for full text… to follow. Hope this helps…

“The obligation for fasting and abstinence doesn’t fall on young children or people with health concerns, though they are encouraged to do acts of penance instead. Barring any health concerns that would present extenuating circumstances, the obligation of abstinence begins at the age of 14, and the law of fasting is binding on everyone ages 18 to 59”.

Having to be careful because of Type2 Diabetes, I eat my “big” meal for breakfast. Then maybe a salad with chick peas for lunch and right now I am enjoying an apple with peanut butter.

Actually one of the Faddas on EWTN ‘suggested’ a fast each Friday of Lent. Or, he said, if that’s not possible, you could eat food you don’t like.

I eated a stale Twinkie.

dried apricots and a hard boiled egg…cake…dried apricots…cake…hmmm…not an even trade off WHATSOEVER! LOL:D Sorry, but much healthier choice…the egg and fruit. :o I hear ya–I think I learned today how important fasting is though…first, we definitely learn self control, second, we learn how others in the world feel on a very small level, because there are people who go DAYS without food. My smaller meals pale in comparison to how some are literally starving in the world. 😦 Third and the most important, is that Jesus suffered in ways we can’t even imagine, during His final hours on earth, and fasting gives a small glimpse of that, too.

I think I’ll keep up fasting on Fridays for Lent…but, I’m never doing fish filets anymore from McDonald’s.😦

Wise decision.

I wasn’t feeling that well myself today so I didn’t exactly fast but I also didn’t eat a lot.

For dinner I eated a sushi.
