The bishops (that includes Pope Francis) are NOT above correction. Our first duty as Catholics is to the Truth, not to the clergy or any authority of man.

Their demonstrated lack of knowledge on man-made climate change and health care is why I longer give money to the Roman Catholic Church.

In short, my family doesn’t work all day to give to people who refuse to understand other points of view or even very basic things.

And this is also why a lot of Catholics would rather listen to right-wing Protestants, Milo and skeptics than the USCCB or the Vatican.

Hopefully, I’ve made this clear enough so I don’t have to keep repeating myself on here.

Tschus!
It seems like you are putting your politics ahead of your religion. I guess this is what Pope Benedict meant when he said a smaller but more faithful Church.

That correction should be based on prayerful reflection and a properly formed conscience, not just someone’s political ideology.

And thus are schisms born. You realize that the Climate Change statements play an infinitesimal part in the overall mission of the Church, and your withholding support damages seminaries, missions, preaching the Gospel, the conversion of sinners, in short, everything the Church does. All because of climate change? Really?

Yeah, if McConnell and his cohorts won’t let Patty Murray and Lamar Alexander do their job.

But they are looking for 60 votes and McConnell wants it cheap.

are you saying the cc statements are infallible?

if not we are free to believe or not believe what he says.

Sorry but a 5X Draftdodger who specializes in Bankruptcy and Adultery is not someone I could trust. Yet the right wing xtians seem to love him . Sad.

Please, no straw man arguments!

Thank goodness he did. A shred of decency among so many Republicans who have none.

How do we develop solutions that support expanding access to affordable care for the nation’s most vulnerable persons?

I can’t be the only one that thinks the article title is less than charitable. 😐
I was going to go with childish, as it resembles a young child engaging in a tantrum. McCain was a Republican longer than most. We need more people of courage and conviction on both sides of the aisles.

I support improving and expanding Medicare, which has a much better track record than for-profit health insurance.

he is a rino looking for headlines
Repeating this insult does not make it more charitable, more accurate or more intelligent. He is a Republican. Period. No, he does not do every stupid thing the Republican party does because he is also not a sheep.

But, hey, I am all for the Republicans here alienating their fellow Republicans that do not engage in blind obedience. We need a third party, hopefully with more common sense and more mainstream, that hasn’t run off the rails to the right.

I guess I am a little empathetic to being the target of Republican ire here, even though I was a life-long Republican. Yet on so many issues, like heath care btw, I sided with the Catholic bishops in the US and fell into disfavor among Republicans. Now, I no long participate or give to the GOP thanks to being booted out socially.

“Oh,” I used to read, “But the Catholic bishops are only speaking their opinion. Prudential judgment! We are free to disagree all we want.” So, how about a little room for this Senator to disagree with the GOP, or do the Republicans here hold a higher regard for the opinions of Republican politicians than they do their bishops and priests?

McCain said among other things, that he could not in good conscious vote for a bill without knowing what was in it. The Obamacare bill was the same way. Nancy Pelosi had the gall to tell Congress they would find out what was in the bill after the voted it in. That was just crazy and so is this. Would you buy a house without going inside it?

This bill will be rated by the CBO sometime in October. You just can’t vote for something that will affect millions of citizens without knowing anything about it.

McCain campaigned one way and legislated/votes the opposite way.
Not necessarily. He can be committed to repealing ACA while at the same time not putting his vote on any and every alternative that comes his way. There may be other conditions that he would like a bill to satisfy before he’s ready to put his name on it.

CBO projections on these kinds of bills are worthless. The CBO can only analyze what is in front of it.

And try explaining procedural exactness to Americans whose premiums are going up 116%.

You still haven’t figured out what an ad hominem fallacy actually is, have you?. Sad.
