Majority of Catholic senators voted to fund Planned Parenthood

The United States Senate voted 58-42 on April 14 to reject a House resolution that would have denied funding to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and its affiliates. The measure had passed the House by a 241-185 margin.

Voting to continue federal government funding of Planned Parenthood were 17 Catholic senators: Mark Begich (D-AK), Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Robert Casey (D-PA), Susan Collins (R-ME), Richard Durbin (D-IL), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Tom Harkin (D-IA), John Kerry (D-MA), Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Joe Manchin (D-WV), Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Patty Murray (D-WA), and Jack Reed (D-RI).

Voting to defund the nation’s largest abortion provider were the other seven Catholic senators: Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), John Hoeven (R-ND), Mike Johanns (R-NE), Jim Risch (R-ID), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Pat Toomey (R-LA), and David Vitter (R-LA).

It’s moments like this I wish Pope Benedict XVI just went on international new stations and personally revealed that these snake-like politicians were excommunicated from the Church. I realize they’ve automatically done so by their acts, but quite honestly a show of power is needed not a small whisper from these politicians half-living concious; which they ignore anyways while accepting communion and remaining supportive of evil policies.

Here is the complete list of those in the **SENATE **who voted on 4/14/2011 against DEFUNDING abortion. (taxpayer money)
Catholic or not, none of them should be re-elected.

Send the list to your Diocese Bishop, so there is no confusion in 2012, and for his correction of heritical Catholic politicians.
senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=112&session=1&vote=00060#position

Those voting YEA were to DEFUND Planned Parenthood and its affiliates.

Those voting NAY were to continue funding Planned Parenthood and its affliates - the largest abortion provider in the USA.

Republicans: 42 yeas; 5 nays.
Democrats: 53 nays.

I agree. I wish the Pope would make a fresh new clarification that the media would pick up, that Politicians who support Planned Parenthood should be denied Communion or excommunicated.

The Pope has said before that Pro abortion politcians should be excommunicated, but if Bishops are still giving these politicians Communion, they are not listening to the Pope.

The majority of the Republican Party voted to authorize a war against innocent people who never attacked us. Now the majority of them are authorizing the government to turn Medicare into a voucher system that will leave millions of seniors without full coverage. They’re also destroying unions and the working class with union-busting boloney while guys like Paul Ryan lower the tax on the top billionaires class from 35% to 25%…

There’s plenty of corruption to go around. Planned Parenthood, while dastardly and evil, is not the ONLY evil and the only threat to our civilization…

I don’t suppose it matters that abortion service is about 10% of what PP does and that if you “defund” it, the people who depend on those clinics for health care will have nowhere to go?

All rights flow from the right to life Medicare does mo good for those killed in the womb.

Raise your hand if your surprised by this. This should be disappointing, but not surprising.

The alternative is to stay at home, not vote, and watch more of the other party take over. Hold your nose and vote for the R.

I’m sure Al Capone and other mobsters gave tons of turkeys to their neighborhoods and other means to look good to the public, should we not have taken them off the streets? I mean they share a similar business with Planned Parenthood…both kill humans to make a profit.

The majority of the Republican Party voted to authorize a war against innocent people who never attacked us. Get your facts straight-the majority of Republicans AND Democrats voted to "authorize a war against innocent people who never attacked us."Now the majority of them are authorizing the government to turn Medicare into a voucher system that will leave millions of seniors without full coverage. This is rhetoric, not fact. They’re also destroying unions and the working class with union-busting boloney while guys like Paul Ryan lower the tax on the top billionaires class from 35% to 25%…How exactly is destroying a union sinful? Where in our cathecism does it teach that unions are good and non-unions are sinful? Could you please show me the Roman Catholic teaching on income tax and where it says what margins of a progressive tax are considered sinful and what margins aren’t considered sinful?

There’s plenty of corruption to go around. Planned Parenthood, while dastardly and evil, is not the ONLY evil and the only threat to our civilization…

Agreed, though abortion in general (not just Planned Parenthood) is the most insidious.

I wanted to see if there was some redeeming value in the vote - maybe there was also a rider in the bill that was more damning and required being voted down - but this resolution was an amendment strictly to defund PP. For those interested in looking up the text on Thomas:

thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/D?d112:1:./temp/~bdwOjz:@@@L&summ2=m&|/home/LegislativeData.php|

I’d personally like to vote the whole lot out. I have very little faith in our Congress.

On a related note, I was elated to find only one abortion clinic is actually open in Missouri - Planned Parenthood’s clinic in the trendy Central West End neighborhood in St. Louis.

In case you haven’t noticed, we are now in 3 wars.
The Dems had control of House and Senate from 2007 - 2010.
Obama took control in 2009, and his Dems still control the Senate.
So much for Obama’s campaign promises regarding war.

Abortion takes the lives of approximately 1.4 MILLION innocent and helpless Americans each year. - This is genocide.

The vote was to stop the funding of PP and its affliates. PP is the largest abortion provider in the US.
Look what the Obama adminstration is using our tax dollars for outside the US.
Now with our tax dollars the Obama administration is killing innocent babies - outside the US as well.

First of all there are plenty of other health care clinics that these people would go to…Just not ones that kill babies.

Where on earth did you get the 10% number, perhaps from a PP “fact sheet”? Here is an article that exposes how PP deceptively codes their services to seem like abortion is not a large part of what they do…
lifenews.com/2011/04/19/fact-checking-christianity-today-on-planned-parenthoods-abortions/

A snip from the article:
“Income from abortions constitutes 37% of Planned Parenthood health clinic revenue.” According to Planned Parenthood’s latest annual report, health clinic income was $404,900,000. The Planned Parenthood website indicates that abortions cost between $350-950, depending on method and location. If one were to use $450 as a very low estimate for abortion cost, revenue of 332,278 abortions would equal $149,525,100, which would be roughly 37% of the clinic revenue. So, when it comes to revenue from Planned Parenthood clinics, and not including government funding and other sources of donations, a huge percent of its revenue comes from abortion.
Grant additionally quoted FRC Action’s statement in the same alert that “The abortion giant performed fewer than 20,000 other services in the last year.” The “fewer than 20,000 other services” is referring to primary health care clients, as indicated in Planned Parenthood’s latest fact sheet. The number of clients reached for these basic health needs is a very small percentage of Planned Parenthood’s services. In the words of Susan Wills writing for the American Thinker, this number reflects “an insignificant part of the total of 11.4 million services nationwide.” Additionally, Planned Parenthood’s overall service reports are not transparent and lead to confusion and deception. A former employee of Planned Parenthood has stated that service-counting was manipulated by a system called “bundling.” In other words, if a woman visited a clinic once but received 12 months of family planning, the clinic would bundle and tally this as 12 services. On the other hand, if the office visit was for abortion care, three visits related to one abortion would be counted only once.
Therefore, the service numbers are not accurate but rather communicate misinformation and downplay abortion.

gurneyhalleck1 - FYI
Obama just gave $6.7 BILLION dollar bonus to private Insurance Companies this week.
news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110419/ap_on_re_us/us_medicare_reprieve

What about his other give aways since Jan 2009?
In addition to the $1.7 TRILLION Stimulous bill - what other hard earned taxpayer dollars have been spent against the “WILL of the PEOPLE” - how about MILLION dollar non-performance RAISES for executives of failing organizations; - how about bailouts for ACORN, AIG, Stanley Morgan, Goldman Sachs , Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, Wells Fargo, Citi-Group, US Bankcorp, GMAC, Captial One, BankAmerica, American Express, Sun Trust, Fifth Third, Commerica, Country-wide, JP Morgan Chase, GM , Chrysler, and Cash for Clunkers. How about Obama’s refusal to have the IRS collect the $1 BILLION dollars in back taxes from White House, Senate, House, and other Federal employees ?

You’ve been listening to too much Obama and Polosi speak regarding the GOP harming retirees. Prove it. Have you read the Ryan proposal ?

There are only about 100 billionaires in the US, and most of them are Democrats.

Obama is destroying this Country with indebtedness.

Obama ran on an abortion ticket - even though he lied and told the rest of the County otherwise.

Women do not need Planned Parenthood for good health care.
Catholics may not vote for any Politcian - regardless of Party - who supports abortion.

Do you have proof that they will have no where to go? Why not go to one of the many pro-life clinics? Why not give the money to entities that do not provide abortion? The ends do not justify the means.
