Hi, I am a Filipino so that it may clear up on some questions about local customs, just ask me.
To address the previous poster concerning the customs here which would be different from “US and Europe”, yes what we practice here may be quite different.
For starters, in most churches, especially the old ones like the Minor Basilica and Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception or the Manila Cathedral, we place the titular of the church at the smack center of our retablos. Google it up for those who aren’t familiar.
Check up all our churches, but you find the old churches with the way I described the retablos.
Another tidbit of info is that the entire country was consecrated to the Immaculate Conception, the patroness of the islands.
Probably, if you notice, shrines are fashioned this way and the Cathedral is a shrine to the Immaculate Conception.
We, Filipinos have always be known as “el pueblo amante de Maria” or the “people in love with Mary” We have numerous Marian Images, check out the Nuestra Senora de La Naval or Nuestra Senora de Penafrancia.
Hope this helped
