But how did they add preservative to that on the day before the Sabbath so that it would keep twice as long.
Some mighty talented insects there.
šŸ‘

The talent came from Heaven. The question is which heaven did it rain from –
St. Paul indicates that there are three. Looking at the OT; these appear to be the three meanings –
  1. The space where birds and bees fly just over ones head. (Genesis)
  2. The upper part of the stratosphere, all the way out to the stars.
  3. The ā€œHeaven of Heaven(s)ā€ spoken of in the plural; which is not a place, but the home of the angels.
In the text, I think it is singular – which would be 1 and 2. Since the birds fell from the sky – that would suggest is was really 1.

So, if it were the third heaven that’s the home of God.
If it were the second heaven, I wonder why he needed to drop it that far…
If it were the first heaven, then the birds were there already – he just made more of them in the same place…

😃

First, your most factual rebuttal is right in the responsorial psalm

***Angels ***don’t eat insect poo’…and ā€œā€¦he rained manna…food he sentā€¦ā€ā€¦means that it came from someone…not something…a person not an animal.
Perhaps I am getting in over my head … But the last time I checked man is a rational animal. šŸ™‚

Intellect is something insects don’t have – I’ll agree.

But, in order to be the real bread which came down from heaven – The son of God took on flesh; and turns bread into that as well.
It is a rational animal who is the incarnation, the IMAGE and likeness of God.
(He even goes beyond rational…)

Jesus also says of the Manna, MOSES DID NOT GIVE YOU THE REAL MANNA FROM HEAVEN.
In John 6 somewhere…

I’m getting a kick out of this ! 😊 Maybe I need more meds.
It sort of the Calvin and Hobbes syndrome…
šŸ˜‰
hey Calvin, that’s not cauliflower – it’s MONKEY brains… ]

Are you in a Jesuit run parish, yourself, or is this just something you came across?
I am not in a Jesuit run parish. I came across their site when surfing the net to find explanations and reflections on scripture readings and I found their site to be the best.

I am sure you should be able to write to them directly if you need any clarification. I haven’t done it myself since so far I have not needed to.

God Bless

=rskempf;5517860]Greetings,
Our pastor (Edited) stated in today’s homily (8/2/09) that the manna in the desert was really insect excrement. No kidding!
I do not believe this is the case. Please give me some advice on how to respond.
Thank you and God bless you.
***Dear frind in Christ,

Please jnow I’m extremely serious in my two recommendations.

One: Find another Chrurch to attend

Write you’re Bishop being Specific, kind as possilbe and brief. He can’t solve the problem if he is unaware of it.

Mana is spoken about in both the OT and NT [by Jesus Himself] so to say that you’re priest is wrong is an understatement.***

Exo. 16 ā€œ7 and in the morning you shall see the glory of the LORD, because he has heard your murmurings against the LORD. For what are we, that you murmur against us?" 8 And Moses said, ā€œWhen the LORD gives you in the evening flesh to eat and in the morning bread to the full, because the LORD has heard your murmurings which you murmur against him–what are we? Your murmurings are not against us but against the LORD.ā€

Numbers 11: 7 ā€œNow the manna was like coriander seed, and its appearance like that of bdellium. 8 The people went about and gathered it, and ground it in mills or beat it in mortars, and boiled it in pots, and made cakes of it; and the taste of it was like the taste of cakes baked with oil. 9 When the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell with itā€

John 6: 31 ā€œOur fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ā€˜He gave them bread from heaven to eat.ā€™ā€ 32 Jesus then said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven, and gives life to the world." 34* They said to him, ā€œLord, give us this bread always.ā€

***One does a grave injustice in letting an incident like this pass without correction. I suspect it would do NO good to speak to you’re priest yourself?

You should act on this ASAP 🤷😊***

Love and prayers

Wow! Look at all the Protestants on this thread! Using the Scriptures to prove the message was bad! Even recommending that the OP ā€œFind another church to attendā€! I applaud you all (except for frspicer, who needs to repent and either teach the Truth or quit teaching all together). I wonder how many people heard this message and DIDN’T question this. I agree that the Bishop needs to be made aware of this, but what would you recommend if the Bishop does nothing, or worse, agrees with frspicer?

I count two protestants, possibly a third (yourself included by admission).
The rest are deferring to the bishop – and grumbling.

This is what Fr. Spicer said in print;
In my homily I made the comment that what was called bread from heaven is produced by insects feeding off tamarisk trees in the desert. I don’t necessarily think of think of all excrement produced by insects as being offensive. After all, honey is produced by bees, yet we hardly think of honey has being offensive.

Fr. Rick Spicer
There is a certain amount of speculation in it, but not a thing against the faith.
What definitive error would he have to repent of?

I hold the insects are irrelevant to the miraculous nature of the ā€œbreadā€ and wouldn’t bother leaving Fr. Spicer’s parish if I were in it. I am sorry you interpreted my statements as being against Fr. Spicer.

If God had multiplied honey, would you say bee’s weren’t involved, or that it wasn’t miraculous?

Why is it then, that it is OK for a wheaten bread to be multiplied from natural bread, but not bug regurgitation?
It is likened to honey – bug stuff of all the possible choices of comparison! Not only that, but they had to grind it up in order to make bread out of it – so the idea of it being bread to begin with is a bit of a misnomer. ( Let alone Jesus’ flesh as he stood before the Jews in the NT).

I mean, they picked the stuff up off the ground if they didn’t find it in trees (Tamarisk being one such possibility). We don’t think of the Eucharist as something to throw on the ground! ( Just on a cross, the tree of LIFE! ).

I have to poo, poo, all this complaining. It’s like, God CANT do it any other way than yours? I think it is quite appropriate – the Jews were REPELLED and DISGUSTED with the idea of Jesus’ flesh being something to eat. Yet it was like an ā€œIN YOUR FACE BUDā€ it is my flesh that gives life to the world (holistic, kataHolos healer). He said it that way as a discipline against the Grumbling, self appointed Abraham’s of his day.

I find it not all upsetting that they would find this stuff on the ground (or in a bee tree with manna honey), and a choice – starve or eat. I am like calvin! Monkey brains have GOT to taste better than cauliflower!

warm regards.

KJV – warning! warning!
Exodu 16:31 And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.
