It is a harmful drug when used without medical supervision or subscription. This risk is significantly increased when it is used with other legal drugs such as booze.
I do not agree with it’s legalization, except for strictly controlled medical purposes.

Although I think that Tobacco is more dangerously addictive though and probally also has higher user morbality and mortality rates. I would also say Booze probally has a bigger negative impact too, especially on society and crime in society.

These addictive substances are already legal, and outright banning them would be disasterous for the lawmaker that did so. But we certainly do not need any more dangerous substances made Legal. This is not good.

My own views on marijuana and the legalization of it are this

1st: How would you regulate it? How high would the tax be? What age groups could purchase it? And what would stop people for buying it from the streets instead of “cafe” shops like in amersterdam? The only thing that would come from it would be an increase in supplies…

2nd: What about the generation that would maybe become addicted to it through the repeative use of it in there daily lives?

3rd: Its a gateway drug. I know i use to smoke it… I never moved on to bigger worse drugs but people that i know have. Drugs are horrible, and destory people’s souls and lives. You live in an fake world cut off from the present only to come back to the present when the high is gone and you just cant stop thinking about how you can get back to it.

Look at countries who have legalized it, they are losing thier own culture and identy because of it and other reasons.

marijuana is used to get “high.” its not the same as cigarettes. in some ways it is the same as drunkeness. i think most importantly though, its the numbness it creates. its the numbness of the heart that happens thats so damaging. i am not so articulate in explaining it. perhaps i could try better later. in short though, it disensitizes ones heart to…ones heart.

I believe it was either Aristotle or Sophocles that said “Reason is God’s crowning gift to man.” God gave us our intellect and free will as a gift, purposely using some substance to diminish either of them surely is almost like slapping God’s gift in the face.

First of all, why don’t you see anything wrong w/ it. What makes it acceptable?

My personal opinion is that it could be used medically as a prescription drug of last resort for certain conditions. However, just using it recreationally should be prohibited.

There are countless studies on MJ and its use, effects, and side-effects. Some contradict one another, some don’t. However, the take-home message I generally see - even on MJ advocate pages - is that it should be used “responsibly”. Making it legal will definitely not make people use it responsibly. Instead it will make people who are just curious have a ‘reason’ to go out & get high. Then when they find they like the feeling (and hey its legal now) they’ll continue. Since it inhibits judgement, they may think they’re being responsible, but in reality they will be far from it.

I dislike the comparison of MJ to alcohol. They have completely different effects on the human body. Its also far easier to regulate alcohol since it is commercially produced - not grown. MJ has a large variance on THC levels. What one person grows will drastically differ in THC levels from what someone else grows. It seems like it would be almost impossible to regulate the levels of THC in the product. Also testing for current use of MJ is much more difficult than testing for alcohol current use. MJ use remains in your body (hair, fingernails, fat cells, etc) for at least 6 months after use. Its most readily detected in the urine, but there is no hard-fast rule about the direct correlation to urine content to blood/brain content. Its just a train wreck to think making it legal will solve any problems.

i think marijuana should only be legal for those who really need it and those who get it should be checked on to make sure theyre not selling it

i use to smoke weed and it is a gate way drug it led me to cocaine its like weed and coke and alchohol go together

im a minor and its really easy to get liquor its 100 times easier to get marijuana

i agree with AdriannaJean doing drugs we just slappin GOD or spitting in Jesus’ bloody face

There’s only one reason for using it recreationally - for the high - which is when your conscience is deadened.

Anything that shuts down or impairs the conscience is morally wrong.

On the issue of medical MJ…I’m saying the jury is out on this, so I have no opinion - but I lean toward “yes” - however, those who obtain such a legal exception for this ALWAYS push further. They won’t stop until full legalization.

And don’t compare it to alcohol. I can have a beer or a glass of wine with friends without my conscience being impaired. One joint will affect the conscience.

Could you explain why you think one impairs the conscience (i.e., the ability to distinguish right from wrong) and the other doesn’t?

Why does anyone smoke MJ? For what reason?

To get high. When one is high, their conscience is impaired.

“Well, I can have one joint without getting high” - then why not smoke a cigarette instead?

The answer is the sound of crickets chirping.

Now, alcohol in larger quantities does impair the conscience, this is why drunkenness is condemned. I’m not talking about drunkeness. I’m talking about having a glass of wine or a beer with my friends or family. That does not qualify as drunkeness.

I think that it is strongly comparable to Alcohol, because Alcohol has a clear wider negative impact, at least to us Australians who are more affected by it because it has become a major part of our culture. On a case by case basis, it is indeed less dangerous, but Alcoholism is rampaging through our youth over here in Australia, and it is a bigger political issue here than illegal drugs are. Binge Drinking has become a major part of our society over here in Australia and the police and our hospitals cannot cope. It has made its way in through the back door while weve been guarding the front.

It is a major issue the Church has also preached on over here because binge drinking is unnessecerily eating up all our hospital beds and is resulting in many injuries and deaths. It has been rather correctly labled an Epidemic, especially in Melbourne and Sydney where there is a large “Nightlife” presence.

here’s a good article on it:

Marijuana is a mind altering drug. Therefore, the use of it is wrong and it should remain illegal.

I don’t really have views on it either way, but I think it might be made legal on federal level and turned over to the states for tax reasons.

Actually it is not.

The purpose of recreational MJ is only to get high. When one is high, their conscience is messed up.

Same thing with getting drunk. Drunkeness is immoral.

But not the same thing with having one beer with friends, or a glass of wine with family.

Because Jesus drank alcohol. Think about it. If drinking alcohol (on a moderate level) impairs the ability to distinguish right from wrong that means that Jesus would have been unable to distinguish right from wrong.

Alcohol is clearly acceptable because God in the flesh drank it. If drinking alcohol was a sin, then Jesus would not have done it.

Now I don’t know anywhere, either in the Gospels or anecdotally, where him or the disciples ever smoked anything…

I don’t believe that it is a Sin. That’s not what I said.

I am against the recreational use of it, but I’m not for or against the Medicinal usage of it. I do not agree with the legalization of it, except in medical cases where it may actually help.

Getting high is not the only purpose of marijuana. I’ve toked up many times before just to relax and enjoy a bowl or two with friends. We often don’t reach levels of impairment, and just enjoy each other’s company. How is that different from drinking with friends.

Your statement seems to be making the claim that beer/wine use is the same as MJ use.

If you’re claiming it is the same as beer/wine use, then why not substitute light alcohol use for your apparent “non-level-of-impairment” use of MJ?

It smells better than tobacco. 😃

It should be legalized for medical uses only. That way the THC level can be controlled. It can be compared to alcohol.

It is a gateway drug because people who sell it usually also sell harder drugs.
