In theory. In practice, it’s not uncommon for parents of huge broods to shoehorn the older kids into assuming a lot of their responsibilities. Just look at the Duggars.

Other marriage advice. Make a point to thank your spouse for things they do as often as you can. It makes people feel appreciated and that the things they do are not going unnoticed. It also seems good for the kids to witness that their parents appreciate eachother and basic modeling of manners.
